To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

Oh and the more worrying thing was that i was supposed to have some blood tests this month but can't as the surgery has a limited stock of the little vials that are used. That's more worrying than food shortages to me.

KaptainKaveman · 19/09/2021 13:36

@AlexaShutUp

I absolutely despise those who voted for Brexit. They have fucked this country over for the sake of their shitty blue passports.
100% this^^
ilovesooty · 19/09/2021 13:36

With you completely @trama.

Wotwhywhen · 19/09/2021 13:37

We were promised £350million a week for NHS.... Lies

Promised gas and fuel prices wouldn't go up... Lies.
There won't be shortages... Lies.
Etc etc.

People said it was lies before the vote and got ignored.
Very basic research can tell you it was factual, but it was still ignored as project fear...

And now it's coming true.

There are already people in this country who can't afford to eat and rely on food banks.
There are already people that can't afford to heat their homes and rely on a warm home discount.
Things. Will. Get. Worse.

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 13:37

Sod that. So as long as we aren't starving to death it's all fine?

We have been spolt in this country though though an abundance of brands and food that's cheaper than a lot of places- mainly through the exploitation of cheap labour. Now those that accepted the cheap labour because it was better than back home have left, the supply chain is having to actually consider paying people a fair wage, and making jobs more desirable which they should have seen coming. No one is going to come near to starving, there just won't necessarily be as wide of a selection of stuff. A return to seasonal produce would be better for the environment as well, and the air miles some foods needlessly clock due to ridiculous arrangements is a disgrace. Carrots from abroad, why? Sending partially processed food abroad to be finished off and then returned and packaged for sale here, make it make sense. Hopefully it gives supermarkets the chance to reevaluate what they're doing, and for consumers to realise you don't need 20 brands of digestives- just a range of price points.

Lampzade · 19/09/2021 13:37

Let us all be honest; Brexit is a fucking disaster

TwoPaperAirplanes · 19/09/2021 13:37

@MapleMay11

I didn't vote for Brexit but there are no shortages at all here in the North West where I am and haven't been so far.
I'd like to know where because I'm in the NW too and have seen a multitude of shortages.
GlobalForce · 19/09/2021 13:37

www.kcwindowandglass.com/post/glass-shortage-its-a-real-issue

It's a global issue.

Lalliella · 19/09/2021 13:37

@MrsPear

I bloody hate the people who voted for brexit and the worse thing is they are being rewarded by the government by being told they don’t have to pay for nowt and the taxpayer has their ni increased. The shelves in Waitrose bridport in the summer were completely bare - no bread etc Bloody scum the lot of them. Destroyed this country and the future because they are racist, stupid and ignorant.
I hate the people that voted for Brexit too, but your post is really ageist. My Daily Mail reading 80 year old mum voted Remain.

Same - I can't get the blood tests I need to make sure the medication I take isn't destroying my renal function, but hey, some bigots get their blue passports (which they probably won't use because they're scared of foreigners) so that's fine.
BabbleBee · 19/09/2021 13:38

NHS nurse too. A couple of weeks ago we were told to ration our needles as supplies are dwindling. Now it’s blood bottles, urgent cases only.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 19/09/2021 13:39

YANBU.

Who would have thought that voting to restrict the freedon of movement of good and people, would result in shortages of... ... goods and people?

FairfaxAikman · 19/09/2021 13:39

Our microwave packed up. We bought it six years ago for about £80. The same model is now £120.

We struggled to get a decent one for £80.

This is so bad, we're screwed
Booknooks · 19/09/2021 13:39
@Booknooks Sadly with rising prices and the cut to UC I think there will be families that go hungry and have to make difficult choices this winter.
Are we blaming brexit for that as well? UC is a government decision, low paid jobs have been exasperated in the past by a willing workforce, and fuel prices are rising everywhere- which the government has known about for some time. I agree brexit was stupid, but if too much blame is placed on it the government gets away with even more shite.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/09/2021 13:39

@MrsFin

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with Brexit. Other European countries are having similar problems.
I have visited 2 EU countries over the summer and have family abroad, no issues with food supplies. In fact when I went to a supermarket abroad it reminded me what an actual fully stocked supermarket looks like and how seeing empty shelves has become normalised here.
Itinerary · 19/09/2021 13:39

Despise and hate. Because you can't get salmon and sparkling water. Staff shortages I do understand and think much more should be done by the government to sort that out.^
^
Most people who supported Brexit did so because they genuinely believed it was best for the country's long term future to be independent. There's no point repeating all the extensive arguments yet again, but it was nothing to do with 'passport colours' FGS so let's stop such patronising comments.

Viviennemary · 19/09/2021 13:40

Yes a few things are out of stock. I'm sure we'll cope. Goodness knows what folk like you would do if you ever had to suffer real hardship.

That's not down to Brexit but Covid.

No. Most people who voted for Brexit did so because they're racist. Some admit it, some don't, but that's what it was.

GeorgiaMcGraw " I'd probably vote leave now if we had another referendum. "

Which of the many benefits which don't immediately spring to mind have persuaded you of this?

Have you read the stuff about blood testing tubes and vials?
Booknooks · 19/09/2021 13:41

The more interesting question re the vials is why we bought loads of machines that are only compatible with bottles from one supplier. There should always be a contingency plan, a plan b, a fall back if you're relying on one supplier for so much, but guess what, we didn't. The thing is yes brexit has caused a lot of issues and is poo, but responsibility for a lot of the fall out lies elsewhere too. Are they going to look across the rest of the inventory and identify other one supplier consumables that could be at risk? Probably not.

HambletonSquare · 19/09/2021 13:42

It is awful to think how companies are going to have to pay British lorry drivers a decent wage rather than bringing in cheap East European ones to undercut them. Their poor profit margins

Nope, your profit margins - food prices will rise to cover the cost of more expensive drivers.

Yes, empty shelves here too. Leader of the council talked of so many less hospitality staff ( just when they were needed), lack of care workers and school support staff. The knock on is, yes wages will rise, however for the council, to meet rising wages to attract care and school workers from the business sector, taxes will have to rise.

All out of your pocket too @Notthemessiah
