AIBU?

To think DD’s teacher shouldn’t have said this?

DD and I bumped into her Year 1 teacher outside school this afternoon.

DD said to her, ‘are you going home?’ And teacher said, ‘yes, it’s the best part of the day’.

AIBU to think it’s a slightly shitty thing to say to a little kid who’s in your care all day?

Genuinely interested to know if I’m being over-sensitive.

@Howshouldibehave

It is only teachers who you think can’t say they enjoy the end of the working day, *@Rainallnight*?

What about office workers?
nurses?
Bus drivers?
Postmen?

?
I would love to know whether it’s just teachers!

I wonder if the teacher in question will recognise herself from this post and have a little smile!

If she does recognise herself then I hope puts an exclamation mark against this child's name for future reference.

I'd hope that she doesn't put anything against the child's name and continues to treat them like everyone else considering it's absolutely not their fault their mothers one of 'those' moms...

Every teacher I know (I work in a primary school and I’m secondary qualified- so I know a LOT of teachers) has to put their own children in childcare - either nursery/childminder etc for under school age children, or After School club for those with school age children.

So at the end of their day with your children, they get to see their own children. Of course that’s the best time of their day.

Tbh in school I absolutely LOVE coming in time and seeing all their faces - absolutely love it. But I do prefer shutting things down and going home to my husband and children’s

@MaybeMaybeNotJ

I work in a school and if a member of staff said this to a pupil I’d not be happy.

I love these "I work in a school" posts. Without saying what you do, why should your opinion count any more than that of someone who works outside the school?

I worked in a school too. As a teacher for nearly 40 years. I've had some fairly fierce and/or super professional bosses, but not a single one who'd give me a dressing down for saying what this teacher said.

😂

What would you have liked her to say?

She had to say something. She couldn't just say

'Yes'.

as presumably that would have been rude.

She couldn't have said

'Yes, unfortunately. I do prefer school to any other part of my life though'.

as you would have thought her a liar or a sarcastic cow.

FFS. Another scraping-the-barrel-for-teacher-criticism. Couldn't you find something else to whine about, like the fact that she doesn't spend 50% of the day focussed exclusively on your little darling?

Teachers aren’t allowed to joke, make conversation or have feelings.

Within a few minutes of starting her thread and getting answers telling her she was being unreasonable, OP admitted she was wrong and wrote,

Ok, hands up! I’m being over sensitive. Good to have the reality check.

2 hours later people are still telling her. 🙄 SHE KNOWS! 😬

I work with the public, and absolutely can’t wait to clock off for the day. I’m guessing the majority of people who work feel exactly the same.

We have conversations with the previous teacher and definitely pass on who ‘those parents’ are. We put a mark by the child’s name but don’t treat the child any differently. Hmm We don’t have a list of parents’ names though…

I had a joke with a child in my class today about my birthday being on a weekday so I’d have to see ‘you horrible lot!’. She laughed and said they’d sing me happy birthday. It’s good when children and teachers have that easy going relationship.

you honestly believe that being at home, possibly with her own family isn't the best part of her day. Holy hell. Good luck to all teachers who will have the pleasure of your custom until your precious one leaves school.

I'm a teacher.
I despair.
Where's all the joy/humour gone!
We are humans too you know.
Damned if we do, damned if we don't!
Robots would surely be a safer bet for some parents.

No OP, you are not. My DD is in Y2 and if her teacher said that, DD would genuinely wonder why she did so. Absolutely no sense of tact.
