To think DD’s teacher shouldn’t have said this?

Rainallnight · 16/09/2021 18:46

DD and I bumped into her Year 1 teacher outside school this afternoon.

DD said to her, ‘are you going home?’ And teacher said, ‘yes, it’s the best part of the day’.

AIBU to think it’s a slightly shitty thing to say to a little kid who’s in your care all day?

Genuinely interested to know if I’m being over-sensitive.

Teachers can't say anything these days

pelosi · 16/09/2021 19:04

You really think teachers should pretend they want to be with their pupils 24/7?!

Your little cherub is not everyone’s cherub!

PumpkinKlNG · 16/09/2021 19:04

Wow 😬 home time is my kids favourite time as well

Queenie6655 · 16/09/2021 19:05

I was a teacher for a few years

Most days I did 12 hours work
Up at 5 in school for 6/7

Non stop
In my first year I was sick so many times

It is a tough job

The pay is not great
Many decent teachers do not get the thanks they deserve

GameSetMatch · 16/09/2021 19:05

It is the best part of the day…

Queenie6655 · 16/09/2021 19:05

She is prob exhausted
My weekends consisted of sleep and more prep and marking

We don't respect our teachers enough

motherrunner · 16/09/2021 19:07

Bloody hell. I’ve been teaching 22 years. Can we not joke with kids anymore?

RedHelenB · 16/09/2021 19:09

FGS! Yabu.

FrownedUpon · 16/09/2021 19:09

Poor teachers can’t say anything. I would have just laughed-why take offence?

Noluthando · 16/09/2021 19:10

I would probably be offended at that too but my husband says I'm too serious 🤣

Goingbackto5oh5 · 16/09/2021 19:11

When I used to teach year 1 I would tell them that the best part of the day was finally here - they'd do a drumroll followed by me announcing it was hometime Grin. I loved them to bits, they loved me but who doesn't love just going home!

iklboo · 16/09/2021 19:12

That Parent alert. Surely it's the best part of a child's day too?

londonrach · 16/09/2021 19:14

Over sensitive....poor teacher...

itsgettingwierd · 16/09/2021 19:15

I often joke to my class at home time "here comes everyone's favourite bit!"

Anyone who says going home after a day at work isn't the best bit is probably lying or doesn't have a work life balance.

You can love teaching and your class. Love any job you do.

But having a life is better. We work to earn to have one of those!

Holskey · 16/09/2021 19:16

IME children like to know that teachers understand there's more to life than school. It's probably something the teacher and students have in common

FrankButchersDickieBow · 16/09/2021 19:20

@StoneofDestiny

OMG - everybody says that after a day at work.
Wrong! My best part of the day is taking my bra off 😁😁
lanthanum · 16/09/2021 19:22

A five year old can understand that an adult might like to sit down and have a cup of tea and not be interrupted for a few minutes. If your child takes it the wrong way, I'm sure you can soon explain.

Pollythecat15 · 16/09/2021 19:22

I wouldn't have given it a second thought.
I imagine she said it empathy with your daughter as it's probably her best part of the day too.
Was your daughter upset by it?

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/09/2021 19:22

Genuinely interested to know if I’m being over-sensitive.
Genuinely, you are being ridiculous.

ancientgran · 16/09/2021 19:23

@Rainallnight

Ok, hands up! I’m being over sensitive. Good to have the reality check.
Well done on seeing it.
Plumtree391 · 16/09/2021 19:24

You are being over sensitive.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/09/2021 19:25

FFS. How uptight can one be?

SpeakingFranglais · 16/09/2021 19:28

The best part of my day used to be when my kids went to bed. If I was a teacher I’d be dancing all the way to the car.

YAB bloody ridiculous and precious.

girlmom21 · 16/09/2021 19:29

There are much worse things she could say about teaching your child, im sure'

ellaballoo · 16/09/2021 19:36

If she was leaving at the same time as the children then I am in awe of her .
