AIBU?

To think DD’s teacher shouldn’t have said this?

DD and I bumped into her Year 1 teacher outside school this afternoon.

DD said to her, ‘are you going home?’ And teacher said, ‘yes, it’s the best part of the day’.

AIBU to think it’s a slightly shitty thing to say to a little kid who’s in your care all day?

Genuinely interested to know if I’m being over-sensitive.

Are you not excited to finish work so you can spend time with your child? It’s the same as the teacher as she will want to see her children too.
I think it’s good for kids to know teachers have a life outside the classroom and they enjoy home time, the weekend, struggle waking up in the morning etc. As it shows they’re human.

@LaurieFairyCake

If she'd said

"I can't wait to leave you little fuckers" you might have a point Grin

But she didn't...

This made me laugh out loud! Grin

Yet another example of how a teacher can't say or do anything without some snide over the top judgment being made...dear God...

OP are you going to come here in the last days of August and police all the parents who are desperate for the teachers to take the kids back too?

Surely,going home after a day's work is the best part of everybody's day?
Why do you expect teachers to pretend that they would rather stay at work 24/7. It's bad enough that they actually have to take work home with them.

It is only teachers who you think can’t say they enjoy the end of the working day, @Rainallnight?

What about office workers?
nurses?
Bus drivers?
Postmen?

?
I would love to know whether it’s just teachers!

I wonder if the teacher in question will recognise herself from this post and have a little smile!

I think it’s a great message to teach a child - that home is a happy place to be (although sadly for some that’s not the case but I’m glad my dc prefer being home with me than at school… they’re still happy enough to go to school).

OP, I think it was unprofessional and misjudged to say it to a parent and a child in her class! Clearly she’s completely normal to feel that home time is the best part of her day, like everyone, though.

Very precious. Best part of my day is sitting on the sofa in silence when DD has gone to sleep. Doesn't mean anything. They are entitled to enjoy going home.
You don't stand a chance in life if that's how you react to a non issue.

Well done OP on acknowledging you were being over sensitive Grin

fwiw it will be the best part of your DC's day too so the teacher was also establishing a bond between them.

Totally ridiculous! Teachers are human like everyone else and like leaving work to go home to their families. Did you expect her to comment on how much she would miss your child overnight ?

@CallMeRisley

So she’s meant to prefer spending 5 hours with your little darling over going home, taking off her bra, stuffing chocolate in her face and cuddling her own kids? Grin
It’s lighthearted OP.

I think she’s meant to pretend this to a five year old, yes! Grin

Going against the grain, but I don’t think it’s a good thing to say. It may be the best part of her day. But I wouldn’t say that to a parent of a child I teach.

I work in a school and if a member of staff said this to a pupil I’d not be happy.

The OP would prefer her dear child's teacher to lie, obviously! PS, in Summer bras come off at the first set of red traffic lights!
