I do really feel for her, she was an exploited child and went through what appeared to be repeatedly brutal experiences.

But whenever she talks, the attitude and "the world owes me" way in which she speaks is not helping her cause at all.

I think there is a problem in trying to ‘rehabilitate’ people like this.

Here’s a thought - they might ‘play along’ and lie! There are some working with them who are taken in by them and manipulated. Those who are maybe naive and ‘only see good’ in people (I know some). They don’t ‘play the game’ and aww it as part of the whole jihad - lying and manipulating ‘the enemy’. We have seen this - men who have been released (sometimes with huge honking warning) because they have convinced the ‘right people’, or their lawyers have worked bloody hard to demonstrated that their human rights are being taken away.

I think they just don’t know what to do with them.

ButterflyAway · 18/09/2021 08:32

If she’s living in a camp for detained terrorists, how did she get nail polish etc? Do we really reward terrorists with luxuries?

KittenKong · 18/09/2021 08:35

I would think that her lawyers and those recoding her will bring it in - for her image?

Halo1234 · 18/09/2021 08:39

I do feel for her a bit. At 15 you are still young and dumb (well some are). To be held accountable for a choice made at 15 potentially the rest of your life is a lot. But her apology annoyed me she kept saying I am sorry IF I offend anyone. Always an IF felt like screaming "there is no IF you 100% did surely u know that". I really dont know if she should be allowed back. So 50 50. It was awful what she did but she was a child

Blossomtoes · 18/09/2021 08:45

And we hold children over ten responsible for their actions. Her being a child doesn’t let her off the hook.

Xenia · 18/09/2021 08:46

I think she was moved from the camp for all in black hard line ISIS women (where they would burnt your tent if you gave in to Western ideals) to a less harsh one. I believe in the nicer one she may even have satellite TV in the tent. I am not sure as much attention is being given to raped Yazidi girls victims of ISIS or families of gay people thrown from tall buildings by ISIS.

SB comes over very badly on camera. Had she never spoken to the press she might even have been able to bribe her way back from the camp and back into the UK unnoticed. Instead she has become the face of ISIS brides.

OverweightPidgeon · 18/09/2021 08:47

Watching her body language , I would say that she has dressed in western clothes just for the camera- she can’t stop touching her hair as if she’s not used to it being on show.

For those trying to say they can’t see any distinction between this and the Virginia Giuffre case….
VG didn’t graduate to strutting around with a Kalashnikov, earning a reputation as a brutal enforcer.
VG didn’t graduate to reportedly stitching people into suicide vests.
That’s a start.

Cadent · 18/09/2021 08:56

@Blackberrycream

You were not privy to private conversations and Wiki is hardly the be all and end all of sources. No one on this thread knows what was discussed between the US and the UK regarding the drone strike, including you.

The addition to the UN list is widely reported, so we know that. But true, we’re not privy to government discussions. So why aren’t you also saying this to Blossomtoes who says she was killed on the UK’s behalf?

Any proof? Or just tabloid fodder?

So you’re fine with Giufre recruiting under age girls for sex, even though she was 17, two years older than Begum?

Blossomtoes · 18/09/2021 09:02

You keep putting words in people’s mouths that are nothing like what they’ve actually said. Why do you keep doing it? It just makes you look stupid.

Washeduponthebeach · 18/09/2021 09:04

I think the crux of the matter for many people is that she doesn’t come across as having taken genuine responsibility for her actions. She appears to be mouthing the words someone else has written with little genuine conviction. There is a discrepancy between the way she speaks and her body language and what she is saying. ‘Your country’. The arrogance of thinking she can help BJ . Lack of compassion for the Manchester bombing victims. She appears to have no insight into herself . I appreciate she is traumatised, but few believe she is genuine in what she says. Therefore she is still dangerous.

itsgettingwierd · 18/09/2021 09:08

I've finally watched it properly.

The thing that stood out for me the most is the fact she refers to U.K. as "you". She appears to separate herself from the U.K. yet claims she is a British citizen and should be allowed to return.

I also see snippets of her attitude sneaking in.

"I'm all over the media. People can't stop talking about me".

I'm still undecided if she should be allowed to return or not but she's really not helping her case with the way she comes across.

I think she's having problems with her ear piece as at one point it looks like she's putting it back in properly.
Blackberrycream · 18/09/2021 09:11

@Cadent
Both widely reported in broadsheets. The first widely supported by many first hand witness accounts. I added ‘reportedly’ to the first as it is less clear where this information came from.
Thank you @Blossomtoes. I was about to address that but I’m not sure there’s much point..

Blackberrycream · 18/09/2021 09:12

Sorry, I meant that I added ‘ reportedly’ to the second point.

Maybe because you and others haven’t answered yet why Begum is evil for recruiting young girls but Giufre is not? Why not answer the question?

Because I think the points I posted are highly suggestive of UK cooperation.
I thought that was obvious.

But she says she was a housewife.

Just because allegations were made doesn’t mean she is guilty of them. See what I mean about a fair trial?

Cadent · 18/09/2021 09:18

What’s clear is that you take anything Blossom and others you agree say with at face value, without any proof. It shows your agenda.

Blackberrycream · 18/09/2021 09:27

@Cadent
I’m not sure if you are aware of journalistic code but this is getting tiresome.
I don’t get my information from the internet. I read. When several unconnected witnesses report the same, it is generally believed to be probably accurate information.

Unfortunately for you, I read too.

The allegations were made in one right leaning paper (The Daily Telegraph) and they weren’t aired in the court case about her citizenship. If they had any proof they would have made the allegations in court.

Blossomtoes · 18/09/2021 09:41

My issue with Begum isn’t her recruitment activities. They’re the most innocuous element of her terrorist activity. She supported one of the most barbaric regimes on the planet, she slept with and procreated with one of its “warriors” and perpetuated its evil work. And she has zero remorse. All she cares about is saving her own skin.

FOJN · 18/09/2021 09:54

This is quite a readable analysis of why the Supreme Court overturned the decision of the appeal court.

Key points are:
The right to a fair hearing does not trump national security concerns.
The appeal court rejected the Home Secretary's risk assessment and substituted its own.
SB's motives at 15 were not relevant to the issue being considered which was right to a fair hearing vs national security concerns.
