He ate a cream tea with a spoon

First date. He seemed perfectly nice and we went and got a cup of tea in a cafe. We ordered a cream tea for two and he ate his scone with the teaspoon that came with his cup of tea.

I wasn’t horrified or anything like that I was just surprised. Is that a thing? I suppose it’s puddingy but I’ve always just picked it up and eaten it like toast, I thought everyone did.

LTB.

No, seriously.

DamnUserName21 · 14/09/2021 20:40

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Autumnally · 14/09/2021 20:41

The spoon is strange but unless he put the jam on first you must LTB

alexdgr8 · 14/09/2021 20:43

perhaps he comes from a culture where it's not usual food.
he was being neat, and hygienic, i see no problem.

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/09/2021 20:43

Maybe he didn't know or he thought it was the done thing? There are far worse things he could have done, like licking the spoon and putting it back in the jam or clotted cream.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 14/09/2021 20:44

He should be culled for the sake of the future of the human race, clearly Shock

RosesandPumpkins · 14/09/2021 20:44

Bonkers

Durbeyfield · 14/09/2021 20:44

He might have veneers or crowns and not want to risk biting into food.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/09/2021 20:45

May not have eaten a scone before and just wasn’t sure?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 14/09/2021 20:46

This would give me a massive hard off.

He probably didn’t want to end up with a face covered in food ! I eat a cream tea with a small knife and fork - grimly messy otherwise

Restinblue · 14/09/2021 20:47

Haha maybe he was thinking of Covid hands and couldn’t wash before eating.

NetballHoop · 14/09/2021 20:47

Knowing neither of you I can confidently say that he is into spooning. I like spooning so for me he'd be a keeper.
You may feel differently though as I don't like cream teas.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 14/09/2021 20:48

It’s the kind of thing my 82 year old dad would do. Regardless of the time of day or meal order, he’d see it as pudding and therefore: spoon.

God love him but I’d admonish / take the piss / defend his right to eat it how he liked.

DonttouchthatLarry · 14/09/2021 20:49

Now I'm picturing Jim from Friday Night Dinner with his 'creamy tea' Grin

burritofan · 14/09/2021 20:49

My uncle likes to eat cake by chopping it into tiny bite-size pieces with a knife, eaten one by one. People are just weird, aren’t they? If you don’t fancy him, spoon scone will give you the ick. If you luuuurves him, spoon scone will be one of those “hahaha, oh, YOU” adorable things you luuuuurve about him until the honeymoon period wears off and it drives you batshit.

SpindleWhorl · 14/09/2021 20:50

I can't fit a scone or a Spoons-type burger in my mouth. It's weird. I have to take them apart or use cutlery.

My older sister's DD is the same.

I wouldn't say we have noticeably small gobs either.

RunningStrong · 14/09/2021 20:50

Oh. Now actually that's a good idea. It avoids the first date nightmare of jam down your front and cream on your nose. Grin

Joystir59 · 14/09/2021 20:50

That wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

IHaveNoOneToTalkTo · 14/09/2021 20:51

Poor guy

Maybe he was trying to look polite and like he had good table manners like when people try to eat a burger with a knife and fork…
