He ate a cream tea with a spoon

First date. He seemed perfectly nice and we went and got a cup of tea in a cafe. We ordered a cream tea for two and he ate his scone with the teaspoon that came with his cup of tea.

I wasn’t horrified or anything like that I was just surprised. Is that a thing? I suppose it’s puddingy but I’ve always just picked it up and eaten it like toast, I thought everyone did.

He wouldn't be for me....

jeannie46 · 14/09/2021 21:55

Most Europeans would do this. More hygenic I guess.
(Have you seen Spaniards eat oranges with a knife and fork! An art form.)

EwwSprouts · 14/09/2021 21:55

He didn't ask for a fork but used his teaspoon? He's either focussed on avoiding the germs of mucky hands or very lackadaisical about use of cutlery. Can you live with either?

daisyjgrey · 14/09/2021 21:56

He's clearly a sociopath.

Quaggars · 14/09/2021 21:58

@DonttouchthatLarry

Now I'm picturing Jim from Friday Night Dinner with his 'creamy tea' Grin
@DonttouchthatLarry that was exactly my first thought too Grin

Creamy..... tea?
lol
As for how he eats it, meh who cares lol

Porridgealert · 14/09/2021 21:58

I once ate in a restaurant and someone at my table ate pie and chips with a spoon and knife. All the utensils were there and that's what he chose. It's a deal breaker for me.

AuntMasha · 14/09/2021 22:00

Does he have a basement? If so, you need to dump his spooneating arse.

DeepaBeesKit · 14/09/2021 22:01

Clearly it's going nowhere. LTB.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/09/2021 22:01

Surely better that than putting the whole thing in his mouth and then working through it like a cow chewing cud?

2021Vision · 14/09/2021 22:02

But did he pay though?

tillytoodles1 · 14/09/2021 22:02

My late husband ate pizza and burgers with a knife and fork

brokenbiscuitsx · 14/09/2021 22:03

I see the Cornish have turned up with their strange ways

Well as the cream tea was invented in Devon I think you have a point 😬😊

Yes that's what I thought too!

Scone with spoon is definitely ick with me.

LemonWeb · 14/09/2021 22:03

That’s just perverted. I think I could come to terms with a fork but scone spoon guy is bound to have a whole bunch of weird and antisocial habits. He probably keeps poo in a jar too Shock

CharityDingle · 14/09/2021 22:04

I had coffee with a colleague once and she spooned the foam from her cappuccino into her mouth with loud smacking noises, after she had finished the coffee. I was traumatised Wink
LTB, OP! Grin

Durbeyfield · 14/09/2021 22:04

How have you got from eating scones with a spoon to keeping poo in a jar?!

DeepaBeesKit · 14/09/2021 22:05

I eat a cream tea with a small knife and fork - grimly messy otherwise

This can't be for real. Seriously? If my grandmother had seen you doing this the look she'd have shot you would have melted the small knife and fork straight out of your clean and dainty hands.

groundcontroltomontydon · 14/09/2021 22:05

I like the cut of his jib - quietly sticking it to the man with his maverick spoon use. He could have ordered a cheese scone and then you'd've had serious cause for concern.

Myleftbigtoe · 14/09/2021 22:05

Massive turn off... But I am curious how your scone spooner would handle other foods🤔

MatildaTheCat · 14/09/2021 22:06

@floppybit

That would make my fanny snap shut like an angry clam
Probably just as well in the National Trust tea rooms. Grin
SequinsandStiIettos · 14/09/2021 22:07

In real life he shoves it in and licks his fingers: he was clearly on best behaviour/has read too many Guardian blind dates and thought a spoon = good table manners as opposed to oi! you weirdo vibes! Grin

BoredZelda · 14/09/2021 22:08

DD eats anything remotely sticky with a spoon, she can’t cope with her fingers being messy. I wouldn’t think twice if someone ate a scone and cream/jam with a spoon.

It's the logical progression, like wearing socks with Crocs >>>> giraffe riding.

Are we still talking about scones.
