To think the royal family are a bloody embarrassment

Just that - why are we paying for this bunch when we could be spending the money on essential services? Let the Queen continue then after her just get rid of the whole bloody lot of them. We have and alleged paedo, a whinging multi millionaire in his 30's moaning constantly, an allegedly corrupt heir to the throne meeting dodgy russians for money....... just go, enough. Seriously - this is all Jeremy Kyle for poshos.

How come they don't have to pay inheritance tax?

PicsInRed · 19/09/2021 00:06

@gibletjane

how come Prince Philip has amassed such a fortune & how come his will is private?
Here's the answer and it's pretty outrageous - we, the British taxpayer, gave the money to him and he had so much more grant vs actual expenses that he saved many 10s of millions - and it was all structured so zero tax was paid at any point from income to inheritance. I guess this is why the will itself was sealed in the UK, apparently to protect the "dignity" of the Queen. Hmm Confused Hmm

Phillips fortune transferred to the queen's huge fortune without a penny in inheritance tax. Wonderful.

HarrisonStickle · 19/09/2021 01:24

All the Royalists saying they admire the Queen, well maybe they're right - admired for her sheer cheek and outrageous sense of entitlement!

My aged mum was watching a programme about Mountbatten tonight, afterwards she told me she was only watching it to see if they mentioned his "nastiness" and how he cared only about himself, which was apparently all normal folk talked about when there were any scandals about him over the years.

Of course they didn't, I imagine it was the usual hagiography.

And so many of the current lot seem to admire him!

But she's got such a wonderful sense of duty! Hmm

@Livingtothefull

Even if we accept that Prince Andrew knew nothing about JE's criminal activities at the time he met Ms Giuffre - even if he is indeed innocent of what he is accused of - you would think he would be doing everything he could to engage with the authorities to assist the victims in obtaining justice. Actually, he would have done it years ago.

Instead he has been dodging and evading, worrying about his own skin rather than the sufferings of the real victims. And the Royal Family have colluded with him in doing it. To use the security services - which WE pay for - to hide behind, is just unforgivable.

I'm afraid that whatever monarchists may think or wish, the fact that the family whose role is to represent us behaves like this, reflects very poorly on us all. I want to be proud of my country but it is hard to feel very much pride right now.

Exactly this.

Prince Andrew's behaviour is shameful and he's being protected by his position.

I've totally lost respect for them all and think when the Queen dies enough is enough.

We can still make money through opening their many homes up to tourists as museums.

They can all keep one each (apart from Andrew)

StoneofDestiny · 19/09/2021 04:51

And yet the fawning, knee bending public will still rather we load our hard earned cash into the idle royals pockets and watch our NHS and Public Services deteriorate.
Philip loved the public so much he never failed to insult people wherever he went. He loved us all so much he left bog all to the good cause he was believed to support, according to the clawing eulogies written in the press.
Upthread we have pp saying 'William pops along a couple of times to help out in the soup kitchen', 'Kate has empathy with the homeless' etc etc.
These are multi millionaires in their own right that we pay our taxes to 'support' 😂. We pay them so much they have a surplus to leave to their family members when they die!
Next time you can't get an NHS treatment, or your pension is cut, or your kids can't get a house or a job, or your school is asking for support, or the potholes in your road are growing in number..........think about what your taxes should be prioritised for!
Do you really think it should be to give even more money to this family?

Biscoffee · 19/09/2021 05:27

I have to admit that the comment about protecting the dignity of the Queen regarding Phillips will has made me rethink a few things regarding having a monarchy. I mean, it’s not as if The Andrew situation hasn’t damaged her dignity already.

This really has me dismayed.

Washeduponthebeach · 19/09/2021 06:19

It’s interesting that all the nasties seem to be coming out of the woodwork now. Charles is going to inherit an absolute mess if something isn’t done soon. They need to rethink their whole strategy. Maybe start with better advisors .

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:21

@PicsInRed I find it outrageous & what's more baffling is as other pp have said why so many of the people are happy with this set up.

Looking at it objectively it's mental that it still exists. How can we strife for equality etc with this institution still in place? And apparently they are just like us 😆

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:23

loopholes, same way all those houses & fortunes get passed through other historic families.

Putting things in trust like all the rich landowners/billionaires in the country do.

Spiindoctor · 19/09/2021 06:28

I dont' know why people are convinced that we will vote in someone admirable if the RF step down.
We have Nicola St here in Scotland (grrrrrr!) and Boris the bountiful. Who were voted on and selected.

God we could end up with any odd ball. Look at the election for Governor in Calif.

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:31

And not to turn this into the usual bun fight but I can't understand the hate towards H&M. Even if they are spoilt, entitled, materialistic, selfish & all the other things they are called surely that's the norm?

Washeduponthebeach · 19/09/2021 06:37

I think they are just blatant about it. Greedy, entitled and lacking in any ability to see things from another’s point of view. The rest of them are very careful to maintain a carefully cultivated front in public. M doesn’t care about the history of the RF or what they represent in this country. She’s a typical product of the system she was in as an actress. Maximise any opportunity for your own benefit. Promote yourself at every turn and make as much money as you can. Say whatever people want to hear and be what they want to see.

The RF are good at pretending they care and aren’t spoilt. Whilst H was in the system his PR was carefully managed. We now see him for what he is. Spoilt, entitled and crass.

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:39

The RF are good at pretending they care and aren’t spoilt

Are they? Prince Philip? Prince Andrew? W & K don't seem to actually do anything?

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:46

. The rest of them are very careful to maintain a carefully cultivated front in public

I'm just surprised people buy it. It's just a load of PR but it's all bullshit. W&K aren't like us because they take a flybe flight or Kate recycles a dress.

Washeduponthebeach · 19/09/2021 06:50

To be honest I don’t t think most people think about the RF all that much. We are all busy getting on with our own lives. When there is a Royal wedding or a scandal people tend to pay more attention, but in general they aren’t much of a concern. It’s when there is a scandal that people start paying attention and really thinking about what’s going on. When you really consider their sheer flabbergasting wealth and privilege, non of which is earned, it’s sickening.

Washeduponthebeach · 19/09/2021 06:51

@gibletjane

The RF are good at pretending they care and aren’t spoilt

Are they? Prince Philip? Prince Andrew? W & K don't seem to actually do anything?

No, that’s true. Some are good at pretending, others don’t give a shit.
Spiindoctor · 19/09/2021 06:55

I'm not sure why you expect all this caring and interest - we have many big estates round here - the landed gentry are very rich, very priveleged, do what they want - mostly don't live on their estates as they are in Singapore/ NY/ anywhere they want.
The RF do a lot of charity work etc imv

Lightisnotwhite · 19/09/2021 08:22

Not having a royal family will change nothing for wealth inequality. The money taxpayers save won’t even be noticeable.
There are hundreds of thousands of very wealthy, very privileged people in the world. I think it’s useful to have one whose role is to be useful to the country in the game.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 19/09/2021 08:25

@Spiindoctor

The president will not be the same as the PM/first minister and we're not likely to have a US model. The president would have an independent referee role to make sure Parliament acts within the constitution. Key point being that the president is elected, and can also be removed if necessary, unlike the RF.
