To think the royal family are a bloody embarrassment

MariaAngustias · 12/09/2021 09:53

Just that - why are we paying for this bunch when we could be spending the money on essential services? Let the Queen continue then after her just get rid of the whole bloody lot of them. We have and alleged paedo, a whinging multi millionaire in his 30's moaning constantly, an allegedly corrupt heir to the throne meeting dodgy russians for money....... just go, enough. Seriously - this is all Jeremy Kyle for poshos.

Biased, or the only people actually holding the royal cabal to account?

Vernon Kay not on the sovereign grant etc so how's that relevant?

Evesgarden · 18/09/2021 07:21

@ChurchofLatterDayPaints

Rejig the first sentence a bit "the RF do a load of shit engagements" and you might have a point.

Republic.org worked out the income PC gets per appearance: 330k. Three hundred and thirty thousand pounds for rocking up in a Bentley with a team of lackeys and telling us to reduce our carbon footprints while shamelessly expanding his own by doing the pointless visits in the first place.

If you scroll back about 350 posts upthread, you'll see that they ARE politically driven, but lie about it.

The RF draw the attention yes, but it's now the wrong kind of attention.

Prince William didn't get anything for volunteering and it was the staff that took pictures. A couple of times he had been in secret.

My point that in trying to make is that they are not lazy and people do appreciate them. I get that you dont - but others do, not every one thinks like you.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 18/09/2021 07:35

If people really do appreciate crumbs of attention from an obscenely rich guy who then drives his oversized car back to his mansion (none of which he paid for) they're just living in fantasy land, worshipping the RF like they do Ronaldo et al.

People are entitled to their fantasies, but not on my taxes. Hopefully Ronaldo pays his.

Axe the sovereign grant, and watch how many secret visits PW does then.

derxa · 18/09/2021 08:09

Scotland don't want them Ah yes the grim grey world of a Scottish republic ruled over by Nicola Sturgeon. If she appeared in our wee rural town to open something she would be ignored. She stays bunkered up in the Central Belt with her adoring subjects. A woman who paid £12,000 to Janey Godley to front a Covid TV advert. It turned out that Oor Janey has posted many vile racist Tweets. Ah yes the kinder nicer Scotland

TheKeatingFive · 18/09/2021 08:32

Ever helped out a homeless charity?

I have helped out with various charities, even though I’m not being paid obscene amounts by the state to do so, yes.

I’m not sure why you’d expect me to take someone into my mortgaged to the hilt 2 bed terrace when the royals have countless enormous stately homes lying around unused. I actually think their patronage of the homeless is disgusting in these circs. The Queen uses Holyrood for just 1 week per year for example.

Yet you’re falling over in delight to get a pat on the head from Charlie boy. 😆

I think the homeless charities would appreciate a small cut of the sovereign grant infinitely more than Wills showing up to stir a soup pot.

I've never met Charles or any other member of the royal family. I don't know where you got that impression

Apols, it was your dad and you’re delighted with a photic 🤷‍♀️

My point is that Nicola is behaving like an absolute monarch and I'm not happy about that. Meanwhile drug deaths, people dying waiting for ambulances, the erosion of women's rights, missing £600,000, ferry scandal...

I am delighted with it. My dad is gone now. He won a farming prize at the Royal Smithfield Show for his sheep. He said to Charles, 'Yes I bred the buggers!' He then patted Charles on the back. The photo shows Charles looking mildly alarmed and my dad grinning proudly. Typical of my dad. He was in his 80s at the time and we had lost my mother a few years back and my brother before that. He had to rebuild his life and threw himself into projects like this. So his meeting with Charles was special to him. No doubt you and people like you will scoff at me and make fun. But don't worry it's like water off a duck's back.

She has been elected by the Scottish people - unlike the royal family!

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 09:08

Loads of people are proud of pics taken with a celebrity. At least most celebs get to their positions of fame and fortune through their own efforts to climb to the top - unlike the royals.

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 09:14

I know people who have to be involved with them through their work. Believe me, the shortest time they can spend in the company of the public suits them fine. They have all banner of signals and devices to have perfect excuses to leave. A 10 minute visit can take weeks to prepare for, disrupts normal business and costs many thousands of pounds. A speak when your spoken to attitude prevails - that's how much they 'love' the public. Challenge the views of Charles at your peril - like William, Andrew and Edward, they are a temperamental bunch, not used to being on an equal dialogue with anybody. Totally living in a vacuum. .

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 09:18

people dying waiting for ambulances

Check out the situation in England too - ambulance stations closing to make 'central hubs'. Heaven help rural communities. It's an issue everywhere.

We're not doing too well with the people we're electing at the moment. What a shower

We're not doing too well with the unelected royal family either - but we can elect different politicians, we are stuck with the royals (so far). It's mere 'luck' Andrew isn't the heir to the throne.

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 09:26

stoneofDestony Last December just before Christmas Prince William spent several afternoons in a homeless shelter in London, preparing and dishing out food and talking to homeless people about their experience about living on the streets during the pandemic. He shared the shelter and asked for donations on his twitter account giving them a tremendous amount of coverage which then encouraged other people to donate and help out. He has been visiting that shelter since 1993 when he first went with his mother. These were not announced visits either, no press outside*

Naive to imagine this is 'secret' and not PR.

There are volunteers, unsung and unpaid, who do this every night after their full time jobs or in their retirement. They run marathons etc to raise money for the causes. All their own effort without the hoo ha or the royals. Spending 'several afternoons' might be laudable - but the money that it's cost to arrange these 'afternoons' would be better donated to the charity.
Maybe the royals could open up a palace or two for the homeless.

CathyorClaire · 18/09/2021 09:29

The RF do a shit load of engagements and it means a lot to those people involved. If we got rid of them those charities ect would miss out because who would fill them? They are not politically driven so people from all walks of life can be a part of their visit.

When an 'engagement' can be a telephone call or zoom meeting or when visits (facilitated by chauffured limos and crib sheets prepared by a lackey) to several locations in a neighbourhood get lumped together it may look as if it racks up impressively but it really doesn't. It's just the usual smoke and mirrors camouflaging their indolence.

The charitable argument is another red herring. 76% of charities with a royal patron didn't see 'their' royal's boat once in the preceding year. Another study found royal patronage has no effect on charitable income.

As for not being politically driven the royals have long standing form for meddling in relation to their pet causes- see the many examples of the Queens lobbying on her own behalf and Charles's black spider memos.

ponyexpress22 · 18/09/2021 09:31

That time Charles was caught off guard telling his sons how he "hated that man" when he was talking about that royal correspondent. (Think it was Nicholas Witchell).....(he was trying to make a living Charles you know)

I think that probably sums up how they really feel about us commoners.....yet people hang on to their every word and bow and scrape to them.

MyOhMySimon · 18/09/2021 09:46

There's news currently circulating in some circles on Twitter about the royal family from Thomas Markle (with video evidence of him saying it). I posted a thread and Sparklingbrook et al reported it to be removed. MNHQ removed it because it had links to information scrubbed off by the broadcaster as "unfounded allegation". Fair enough.

The video is still being shared all over Twitter and people are discussing it. So I'm not posting links or names of the people Thomas Markle accused. You can go check for yourself if you like.

Someone on the thread I posted claims he is an unreliable source and he may well be but people have listened to him when he was giving information about Meghan but once he speaks against the others, he's unreliable. People do have a right to hear this one "unreliable infornation" too like they did others and make up their mind.

I think he turned on them when the favours stopped.

MyOhMySimon · 18/09/2021 09:49

You can type #thomasmarkle on twitter and you'll find posts about it and the the video. Just started yesterday or so.

TheKeatingFive · 18/09/2021 09:51

The royals must REALLY hate Twitter

MyOhMySimon · 18/09/2021 09:53

They can't stop it. The Internet never sleeps and this news will be out unless they muzzle everyone sharing it on Twitter.
