To think the royal family are a bloody embarrassment

Just that - why are we paying for this bunch when we could be spending the money on essential services? Let the Queen continue then after her just get rid of the whole bloody lot of them. We have and alleged paedo, a whinging multi millionaire in his 30's moaning constantly, an allegedly corrupt heir to the throne meeting dodgy russians for money....... just go, enough. Seriously - this is all Jeremy Kyle for poshos.

Yes I do. But stick in Lady Ga Ga or any Glastonbury headliner and you get the point.

Like David Attenborough... Grin

Is this the item you were meaning? When he flew 125 miles to make a speech on reducing carbon emissions generated by flying.

inews.co.uk/news/environment/prince-charles-helicopter-climate-change-carbon-emissions-royal-family-393143

You see, that is what is baffling.
William flew an RAF helicopter to land it in his then fiancé's parents garden just to show off!
Charles did his heli flight to lecture us on carbon emissions

Yes when Harry and Meghan took a lift in Elton John's private plane all hell broke loose in the press.

Evesgarden · 17/09/2021 22:44

@StoneofDestiny

you dont genuinely believe that do you?

Yes I do. But stick in Lady Ga Ga or any Glastonbury headliner and you get the point.

And children like Disney films too...........

Lady GaGa at Glastonbury is not the same is it and you know that.

The RF do a shit load of engagements and it means a lot to those people involved. If we got rid of them those charities ect would miss out because who would fill them? They are not politically driven so people from all walks of life can be a part of their visit. We couldn't use the elected officials because they would be busy with Governmental issues so it would be down to random faceless people who just wouldn't draw the attention in - plus those elected officials are politically driven so would turn a lot of people away from the charities ect.

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2021 22:45

And I give you David Attenburgh's crowd pulling appeal

MN is not representative of the views of the UK. Sorry

So true Grin
In MN land Labour were going to win the 2015, 2017 and 2019 general elections. Brexit was never going to happen and Trump was never going to be president.

So given MN past record I’d say the monarchy is probably going to be OK.

Evesgarden · 17/09/2021 22:50

@StoneofDestiny

They were already there and most likely off their tits! Grin

But yeah of course very one that went to Glastonbury did so to see David Attenburgh ..Grin

You really believe that do you?

The Red Cross, UNICEF, CRISIS, SHELTER....to name a few are widely supported and don't need a royal to sap money from them for a 10 minute visit. Ordinary people holding down full time jobs support them as volunteers, giving up their spare time and Christmases while the royals parade about at Crathie Church in thousands of pound worth of clobber.
If you worked for a charity you will know the real work is done by unpaid ordinary people who feel a genuine commitment to the cause they support and get NO financial recompense for their time, no privileged housing or take any other funds out of the tax payers contributions.

They sure as hell wouldn't have been listening to Prince Andrew if they were drunk or sober! .

But they just dont get the turn out or coverage do they?
StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2021 23:04

But they just dont get the turn out or coverage do they?

That not what they need! They need volunteers on the job - doing the graft and giving a dam. Flag waving nonsense at a royal doesn't feed the poor, house the homeless or run a soup kitchen in minus temperatures in the night.
The flag waving numpties are just that - turning up to say 'I've seen one', they are not filling the collection pots ant more than the over pampered royals are.

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2021 23:05

And neither would I!

Oh really?
So if he was the first born you'd advocate the royals were finished, or we just need to skip to the next in line?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/09/2021 23:15

Charles did his heli flight to lecture us on carbon emissions

I was more bothered about when he took a private jet to Davos, then after landing ponced up in an electric car to yammer on about climate change ...

Blossomtoes · 17/09/2021 23:17

But stick in Lady Ga Ga or any Glastonbury headliner and you get the point

And it would cost at least as much. Kylie or Lady GaGa aren’t going to rock up and do it for nothing.

Evesgarden · 17/09/2021 23:23

@stoneofDestony Last December just before Christmas Prince William spent several afternoons in a homeless shelter in London, preparing and dishing out food and talking to homeless people about their experience about living on the streets during the pandemic. He shared the shelter and asked for donations on his twitter account giving them a tremendous amount of coverage which then encouraged other people to donate and help out. He has been visiting that shelter since 1993 when he first went with his mother. These were not announced visits either, no press outside.

Remind me how many palaces and stately homes they have between them again?

Yes really.

And that situation is never going to happen so no point in discussing a straw man argument.

And how many homeless people have you took in?
TheKeatingFive · 17/09/2021 23:30

And how many homeless people have you took in?

Last time I checked I wasn’t in receipt of the Sovereign grant. Or the Duchies. Or all the tax payer funded security.

TheKeatingFive · 17/09/2021 23:32

Or the run of numerous royal residences to spend my days.

There must have been press or we wouldn't know about it. Everything they do is a PR exercise.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 18/09/2021 06:25

Rejig the first sentence a bit "the RF do a load of shit engagements" and you might have a point.

Republic.org worked out the income PC gets per appearance: 330k. Three hundred and thirty thousand pounds for rocking up in a Bentley with a team of lackeys and telling us to reduce our carbon footprints while shamelessly expanding his own by doing the pointless visits in the first place.

If you scroll back about 350 posts upthread, you'll see that they ARE politically driven, but lie about it.

The RF draw the attention yes, but it's now the wrong kind of attention.

Lightisnotwhite · 18/09/2021 07:09

Republic are biased though. Veron Kay gets 50k for doing a doing a couple of hours of an evening, so overpaid is a relative term.

Ever helped out a homeless charity?
