To think the royal family are a bloody embarrassment

Just that - why are we paying for this bunch when we could be spending the money on essential services? Let the Queen continue then after her just get rid of the whole bloody lot of them. We have and alleged paedo, a whinging multi millionaire in his 30's moaning constantly, an allegedly corrupt heir to the throne meeting dodgy russians for money....... just go, enough. Seriously - this is all Jeremy Kyle for poshos.

I do admire the queen and am optimistic about William and Kate.
Andrew and Harry are both just embarrassing and a sad product of stupidity and too much money.

@ponyexpress22

I do really wonder about those people who call out "we love you" as the royals sweep past haughtily on their way to church on Christmas morning. Shivering in the cold under blankets, with their flasks of tea, gazing at people who to them are like something stuck to their shoe.
It's utter madness. One year a random woman took a picture of Kate William Harry and Meghan, they called it the fab four, and loads of papers used it before one decent professional photographer told her that she needed to stop the media using the photo and to sell it because she was being taken for a mug. The poor woman was just grateful they were using her photo. From that point she earnt a few thousand punds every time the photo was used.

I just had a quick google and it seems the woman was a single mum who'd been sleeping on a mattress for 18 months because she couldn't afford a bed and had gone to the church hoping to catch a glimpse of the RF.

I'm glad she did but what a society we live in when someone with nothing is just glad to have a look at a group of people with everything.

I don't understand why people admire someone who lobbies governments to gain exemptions from legislation, who has amassed enourmous wealth and keeps much of it in offshore tax havens, and who despite that wealth feels entitled to more public money for the upkeep of their residences.

However, with so many admiring the Queen and supporting a RF, it's no surprise that our government and political institutions are in such a mess.

HarrisonStickle · 18/09/2021 14:28

Has anyone noticed this little gem of an exemption?

The Queen was exempted from the 2017 Cultural Property (Armed Conflicts) Act, a law that seeks to prevent the destruction of cultural heritage, such as archaeological sites, works of art and important books, in future wars. This means police are barred from searching the Queen’s private estates for stolen or looted artefacts.

Ditto those dressed in union flag suits and whoever that chap is who appoints himself "town crier" when there's a royal birth or whatever. Oh, and the (outwardly very sensible) lady I knew who got quite tearful because Margaret - Margaret, for god's sake - shook her hand

I get that some like and admire them (each to their own and all that) but to be quite so enchanted, as if they're personal friends or that they're honoured to be in the RF's very presence??
Beats the heck out of me ...

TheKeatingFive · 18/09/2021 14:32

Because it belongs to us. We’re the landlord of Buck House.

And yet we pay them to live there and they set the terms of our access.

Taken for utter fools.

Even when it's public money targeted at the disadvantaged: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11403544

Interesting that the main "worry" was about adverse publicity rather than the fact that they'd done it at all ... and before anyone says HM wouldn't even have known about it, is it really likely they'd have risked such a thing, were it not for the tone (and the known greed) coming from the top?

Admire the queen for what? Raising a nonce?

My facile comments aside, maybe have a look at the current aibu thread on Scariest things that happened to you abroad, which gives you a snapshot of how women are treated generally: like objects or pieces of meat, commodities. Andrew sees women exactly like that. And the Queen and PP instilled those values indirectly, by growing his gigantic ego and repulsive arrogance. She still enables and protects him and lies for him and he is 61 years old.

They treat us like utter shit, set a disgusting moral example and you ADMIRE them. Just unbelievable.

As I said before, I consider those people to be the modern day equivalent of Victorian freak show exhibits. They are utterly bizarre.
pheebumbalatti · 18/09/2021 17:30

Get rid of them.
The UK should have an elected but still largely ceremonial president the same way Ireland or Germany do.

@MyOhMySimon

There's news currently circulating in some circles on Twitter about the royal family from Thomas Markle (with video evidence of him saying it). I posted a thread and Sparklingbrook et al reported it to be removed. MNHQ removed it because it had links to information scrubbed off by the broadcaster as "unfounded allegation". Fair enough.

The video is still being shared all over Twitter and people are discussing it. So I'm not posting links or names of the people Thomas Markle accused. You can go check for yourself if you like.

Someone on the thread I posted claims he is an unreliable source and he may well be but people have listened to him when he was giving information about Meghan but once he speaks against the others, he's unreliable. People do have a right to hear this one "unreliable infornation" too like they did others and make up their mind.

I think he turned on them when the favours stopped.

That's all very interesting and certainly doesn't paint certain members of the RF in a good light if it's true. But strange that the posters who believe everything Thomas Markle said about Meghan are very quiet about this...

And were you really reported by the headgirls for talking about information that's available for anyone who knows how to Google?

TheKeatingFive · 18/09/2021 19:06

Margaret, for god's sake

Grin

She didn’t do much for the Royals reputation, for sure.

Yes indeed I was. @BeckyWithTheAverageHair
They first sauntered in to declare they weren't going to click the link (I explained what it was so didn't just drop a link) and one person said Thomas Markle is unreliable anyway.
I'm sure a few more had posted by the time I was constructing a reply but the thread disappeared once I clicked 'Post'. Only looked at the deletion message from my 'Threads I'm watching' list.

It's all laughable really because part of my thread title was that some would excuse this (and/or conveniently ignore it), knowing how people can be.

The alleged involvement of JK is very interesting.

That photo thing with Thomas Markle was fucking weird, no doubt about it. It probably does make sense that it was a set up. And that a certain someone was shit stirring to beat the band.

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 21:11

That time Charles was caught off guard telling his sons how he "hated that man" when he was talking about that royal correspondent. (Think it was Nicholas Witchell).....(he was trying to make a living Charles you know)

I think that probably sums up how they really feel about us commoners.....yet people hang on to their every word and bow and scrape to them

Absolutely true - even thought Witchell, like other 'royal commentators' are like fawning arse licking sycophants, Charles demonstrated his loathing of 'the commoner'. His father Philip expressed his loathing of people over and over again, yet flag waving numpties and the media still put it down to 'it's just Philips way etc'. Cringe worthy racist expletives and contempt continued ............despite these people paying for his lifestyle!

TheKeatingFive · 18/09/2021 21:13

I was going to say it’s not like Witchell has been anything other that utterly obsequious

Hehehe. Hot on the heels.

I find the reporting hilarious and weird at the same time (I mean, it's out there already so why bother?) but I understand MNHQ has to save their arses from potential issues.

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 21:18

She travelled 30 odd miles across the county between engagements so I very much doubt all manhole covers on the route were checked - it would have taken years! The building itself had a security scan and clearance on the day. No police presence other than on the day. And she had one security guy

I know someone who prepares for the visits. The royal 'team' come up well ahead of the visit and make their expectations clear (like a memo couldn't do it, or a conference call). Things like canals are dragged and drains searched - security and police all dragged off normal duties - road blocks in place, all sorts of tarting up done on 'the off chance' the deign to visit the toilet etc (they never do). The costs involved is astronomical. .

MyOhMySimon · 18/09/2021 21:20

I knew the other post would be gone too. At this rate, some people won't be able to go to bed today. Real 'Watchers On The Wall' stuff.😅

StoneofDestiny · 18/09/2021 21:22

I don't even know what the 'unfounded rumour is
