School shoes haven't lasted a week

£20 in sainsburies which i thought looked quite sturdy. Well they lasted a grand total of 5 days. How can this be? The sole is ripped up after a week. I don't have the receipts because I am a moron.
I can't afford £45 each on clarkes shoes. I have looked in all the charity shops but school shoes are never sent in. Are they all just shit?
Considering just sending them in converse because at least they last and look alright even when they are tattered and old. and converse are easy enough to find on second hand market places.
Am I the only one? I thought 20 quid was a lot, I usually go for the 12 pound ones but thought I'd go more expensive thinking they would last better. Ha!
Also, I am worried about spending more money and still getting the same results.
I never have this problem with home shoes, mostly they last until we outgrow.

Buy Clarks, they last the year.

PoolNooodle · 10/09/2021 16:23

Take them back? My daughters Sainsbury’s ones have been fine

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/09/2021 16:23

I’ve had the same with Sainsbury’s, didn’t even last a half term whereas Clark’s have lasted up until outgrown. I buy from the Clark’s outlet so they are a bit cheaper

Usual2usual · 10/09/2021 16:24

We bought £50 Kickers ones for DS starting school, they only lasted a week. Couldn't believe the state of them.

Been Asda all the way since.

DismantledKing · 10/09/2021 16:24

I’d take them back to Sainsbury’s and try your luck.

MyLandlordIsAWOL · 10/09/2021 16:24

Take them back. Are they Sainsbury's brand - or do you have proof of purchase in the form of a line on your bank statement?

Winewednesday · 10/09/2021 16:24

I brought my sons on Treads shoes for £24.95 and they are great. I would take them back to sainsburys and ask for your money back.

NursieBernard · 10/09/2021 16:24

Try and take them back anyway. Do you have proof of purchase from a card transaction?

BigThumb · 10/09/2021 16:24

Another vote for ASDA!

SoundBar · 10/09/2021 16:25

I got barely used Clark's off ebay for 20 quid all in!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/09/2021 16:25

Take them back.

scrivette · 10/09/2021 16:25

Take them back, they should be able to see from wear and tear on the sole that they are new.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/09/2021 16:25

We buy Sainsbos and they gave always been fine. Even cheap shoes shouldnt break after a week. What on earth were they doing in them?!

ThePlantsitter · 10/09/2021 16:26

You don't need proof of purchase if they're not for for purpose. Even better if they're Sainsbury's own brand.

BikeRunSki · 10/09/2021 16:26

Clarks generally last half a term on my Kids’s feet.
M&S last a year.

But for now take them back to Sainsbury’s. They probably have only had them in stock a few weeks anyway. Have you got a nectar card or anything that will have the transaction on?

Smartphonetoomuchoo · 10/09/2021 16:26

They are exclusive to sainsburies i believe. I've never had it this bad this quick.

Did you read the post? She cannot afford Clark's shoes.
picklemewalnuts · 10/09/2021 16:27

Take them back. Receipt is more about changing your mind. They will be able to see the shoes were barely worn but failed anyway.

I definitely bought cheap shoes more often, because expensive shoes didn't last either. So two cheap pairs were cheaper than one expensive pair.

Look out for the ones where the rubber sole comes up over the toe. They always lasted longer for us.

Chilver · 10/09/2021 16:27

Clarks didn't last a term for us. Asda or M&S last a good amount of time.

ComDummings · 10/09/2021 16:27

I would take them back anyway even without the receipt.
I find that supermarket shoes just fall to bits within weeks. I buy my children Clark’s - expensive but they’ve always lasted a full school year, plus we walk to school every day as I don’t drive so they get a battering. I know you say you can’t afford them but honestly even saving a pound a week until next year will give you enough money for a pair and it’s so worth it.
As for Sainsbury’s, as I said, I would take them back anyway.

PoolNooodle · 10/09/2021 16:28

Toe zone? They look like the same brand my daughter has and they are as new.

CalmDownBoris72 · 10/09/2021 16:28

I had a similar experience with Sainsbury’s school shoes last year. I’m sticking to ricosta again now, they’ve never broken and are always in great condition when they’re grown out of.

ComDummings · 10/09/2021 16:28

Hopefully they’ll replace them immediately OP
ImFree2doasiwant · 10/09/2021 16:29

I know you said you can't afford Clarks, but by the time you've bought a second d pair of cheap shoes (and 3rd...) you've paid for the clarks.

Ds2 has a not quick black pair that were £12 last week. Ds1 has black which I bought last year and still fit him.

is this true? I hope so
