School shoes haven't lasted a week

Smartphonetoomuchoo · 10/09/2021 16:21

£20 in sainsburies which i thought looked quite sturdy. Well they lasted a grand total of 5 days. How can this be? The sole is ripped up after a week. I don't have the receipts because I am a moron.
I can't afford £45 each on clarkes shoes. I have looked in all the charity shops but school shoes are never sent in. Are they all just shit?
Considering just sending them in converse because at least they last and look alright even when they are tattered and old. and converse are easy enough to find on second hand market places.
Am I the only one? I thought 20 quid was a lot, I usually go for the 12 pound ones but thought I'd go more expensive thinking they would last better. Ha!
Also, I am worried about spending more money and still getting the same results.
I never have this problem with home shoes, mostly they last until we outgrow.

Two DC and until teenage growth spurt one pair of £40 -£50 shoes would last each DC an entire year. Get them properly fitted with room to grow. Spending less is false economy if you need to buy two (or more) pairs a year.

lollipopsandrainbows · 10/09/2021 17:27

Have you not got a Clark's outlet nearby? I get my kids from there, usually around £25, never more and they last the year (unless massive growth).

BareVanilla · 10/09/2021 17:30

You do not need receipt to return any items that are faulty and not fit for purpose. The worst they should do as you can't prove it was their store or that you didn't buy them 5 years ago is to offer an exchange or vouchers. I would go in and ask to speak to supervisor regarding the shoes and ask their opinion on the shoes and could you exchange them for a different school shoe.

Newroad · 10/09/2021 17:31

Sports Direct sell Adidas school shoes and they were the only pair to ever have lasted a year and could probably have been worn again. I highly recommend them. They are so robust, look smart enough for school shoes but are actually trainers

Travielkapelka · 10/09/2021 17:31

M&S are excellent, they’ll last as long as they fit! DD wearing hers for the second year

EatSprayGlove · 10/09/2021 17:33

I've had alsorts including Clarks and mine destroy them in weeks. It's always the leather at the top as if they are literally dragging their feet around! So annoying. The best I've had were last year's addidas trainers but tbh I've got the aldi version this year and I genuinely can't tell a difference (other than cost)

RubyFowler · 10/09/2021 17:36

Even at £20 they should have lasted way longer than that! Definitely take them back.
If you're allowed black trainers that's what I ended up with for my children as they are by far most hard wearing, and comfy.

GameSetMatch · 10/09/2021 17:36

Adidas tenasur look just like school shoes and only £20. They are comfy and have lasted really well.

purplesequins · 10/09/2021 17:38

take them back.
even if they were 'cheap' they still should last football on the playground normal school activities.
good luck!

I hope you can get a replacement pair.

MarrymeTomHardy · 10/09/2021 17:38

If you used a Nectar card they can track the purchase and will issue a refund against it!

Soozikinzi · 10/09/2021 17:39

Definitely take them back they should've lasted longer than that !

LuckyAmy1986 · 10/09/2021 17:41

We like kickers from Deichmann, not to expensive and really last. But defo try taking them back to sainsburys!

Kerplunkk · 10/09/2021 17:43

Another vote for Asda

dilmor · 10/09/2021 17:45

Clarks! You can get Clark's on Amazon for a fraction of the price too.
Also see if the school accepts plain black trainers, my dc's does so trainers he has, he's had them since last term tbh but they're fine however they are Nike and cost about £50

CottonSock · 10/09/2021 17:47

Look like toe zone, their own brand. I believe they only sell their own brand anyway. Take them back.

balloonsintrees · 10/09/2021 17:50

M&S lasted longest with a rugby playing scruffian when he was at primary school

CocktailOnion · 10/09/2021 17:56

My boys are shoe destroyers, M&s were worst at 5 days with Clarks and hush puppies coming in at under 2 weeks. Asda would always last a term, though now they are in men's sizes I can never find anything suitable in Asda so I have tried treads, the shoes look great and are on sale at £25 at the moment.
I would definitely take them back even without a receipt.

CocktailOnion · 10/09/2021 17:59

Just remembered that last year I got them plain black walking/hiking shoes for £19.99 they really were robust and lasted more than 2 terms.

skodadoda · 10/09/2021 18:02

You do not need the receipt to get a replacement or refund.

skodadoda · 10/09/2021 18:04

@Smartphonetoomuchoo

They are exclusive to sainsburies i believe. I've never had it this bad this quick.
In that case take them back
Mintjulia · 10/09/2021 18:05

Take them back. They will have Sainsbury labels and will be current style.

Goods have to be fit for purpose, and only lasting 5 days, they quite clearly aren't.

Parkmama · 10/09/2021 18:07

I usually buy from M&S or Next. Cheaper than Clarks, they always last the year. Take them back to Sainsbury's

Dithercats · 10/09/2021 18:07

Same thing at Easter term with Asda...even with recept they refused to refund or exchange.
I out them in the bin on my way out 🤷‍♀️. Useless. They said no fault as she had been dragging her feet on something.
Never buy again, and returned to m&s. Ordered today at £26 per pair. Really sturdy with front protection.

Smartiepants79 · 10/09/2021 18:09

Cheap shoes are nearly always a false economy. As someone has pointed out 3 pairs of the cheap ones is the same as 1 pair of better quality.
We’ve always had Clarke’s or start-rite and never had any problems. They last til they don’t fit anymore.
