School shoes haven't lasted a week

Smartphonetoomuchoo · 10/09/2021 16:21

£20 in sainsburies which i thought looked quite sturdy. Well they lasted a grand total of 5 days. How can this be? The sole is ripped up after a week. I don't have the receipts because I am a moron.
I can't afford £45 each on clarkes shoes. I have looked in all the charity shops but school shoes are never sent in. Are they all just shit?
Considering just sending them in converse because at least they last and look alright even when they are tattered and old. and converse are easy enough to find on second hand market places.
Am I the only one? I thought 20 quid was a lot, I usually go for the 12 pound ones but thought I'd go more expensive thinking they would last better. Ha!
Also, I am worried about spending more money and still getting the same results.
I never have this problem with home shoes, mostly they last until we outgrow.

Yes sorry I meant you don't need a receipt but you do need to prove you bought them there. 'Tu' written on the insoles is enough!

Fivefourthreetwo · 10/09/2021 16:49

I've taken shoes back to Sainsbury's without a receipt. They wouldn't refund but exchanged for a new pair.

Yellow85 · 10/09/2021 16:49

I usually swear by Clark’s shoes but we’ve had a couple of issues with the last few. Can’t recommend Toe Xone shoes enough. Similar quality, real leather and half the price of Clark’s.

I got them from Very

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 16:54

@Demelza82 op mentioned getting converse second hand.

barnabyjonesismyfriend · 10/09/2021 16:54

Take them back!
I've bought discounted Clarks and Startrite from
www.shoesforkids.co.uk

AleynEivlys · 10/09/2021 16:57

My daughter has also worn the same brand (ToeZone) for a week and they don't look any different to when we got them! She loves them, especially the memory foam lining, and they are as new. I can't think how that could have happened?!

Charmatt · 10/09/2021 16:59

Did you pay by Debit card for them? If so they should be able to trace the transaction on the their computer if you give them the card details and date you bought them. I did this for an iron once that had a dodgy thermostat at Asda.

rebeccachoc · 10/09/2021 17:06

Sorry don't have time to read all the posts to see if you've already been told but if you uses a nectar card they can find the purchase through there in place of a receipt.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/09/2021 17:08

Try next they are reasonable around £26 for own brand school shoes and they last really well. They also do half sizes.

HurryUpAndWait23 · 10/09/2021 17:09

@RedHelenB

Buy Clarks, they last the year.
They last who a year?!

Not the kid. 3 months and they grow out of them.

What a daft comment!

MyMummyHasGotABigBottom · 10/09/2021 17:11

eBay a Clark’s pair. Some absolute bargains to be had for very lightly worn shoes.

Aprilinspringtimeshower · 10/09/2021 17:12

@RedHelenB

Buy Clarks, they last the year.
Unless your child’s feet are growing to a size 15, in which case they lasted 4 months, so not affordable! Mind you size 15 aren’t affordable in anything…but no longer my problem now he is earning 🤣🤣🤣
diamondpony80 · 10/09/2021 17:12

I bought a pair of kids trainers from Sainsbury’s last year and the sole started coming off within a week. I took them back without the receipt but didn’t get money back for the shoes - they only let me swap them for something else. I got DDs last two pairs of shoes from Tesco and they’ve lasted until she grew out of them (about half a year).

Margaritawithlime · 10/09/2021 17:13

Shoesforkids.co.uk
Get them measured in clarks and buy from here. Full of last seasons stuff and an ace brand from Portugal called beppi

SirChenjins · 10/09/2021 17:14

It's been a while since I bought shoes for primary school aged DCs but found Asda and M&S really good. I always found I was paying for the Clarks name (which is not what it once was) and they didn't last any longer than the cheaper leather ones. I didn't mind buying from the Clarks outlet as they were more reasonably priced. Someone upthread said to make sure the rubber sole went over the toe, and that was the only thing that worked for mine and extended its wear.

Good luck getting them exchanged or refunded - kitting them out for school is an expensive business.

CattyMcNips · 10/09/2021 17:14

We have a Clark's outlet in our city where we get school shoes.

CattyMcNips · 10/09/2021 17:15

Also, email Sainsbury's and send photos, even if you've lost the receipt could you show the bank transaction? Feedback to head office is probably more effective than in store.

Cryalot2 · 10/09/2021 17:17

They are not fit for purpose, take them back and tell them you will contact trading standards.
Hope you get sorted.
Shoe zone are not bad.

PoolNooodle · 10/09/2021 17:17

Normal to not get your money back without a receipt, will be an exchange (not sure if they give vouchers, probably not)

Cordeliathecat · 10/09/2021 17:19

What size op? I have various school shoes from past 2 years which haven’t been worn due to school closures that I’m planning on taking to charity shop over wknd

takehomepay · 10/09/2021 17:22

Did you pay by card? Many shops will take a statement as proof of payment. These aren’t fit for purpose, fight for a refund!

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 17:24

I don't rate Clarks and the service is shocking so I boycotted them!

I DO rate Next school shoes though.

DeadButDelicious · 10/09/2021 17:25

I got DD's shoes from TK Maxx this year, bit of a gamble as you don't know what they'll have in but worth a look as you can get some real bargains. I got two pairs for about £22.

Doveyouknow · 10/09/2021 17:26

We have had the same issue with Tesco and Next shoes. You shouldn't need a receipt to get an exchange as they are faulty / not fit for purpose

hufffflufff · 10/09/2021 17:26

you can buy clarks in the sale.
