School shoes haven't lasted a week

£20 in sainsburies which i thought looked quite sturdy. Well they lasted a grand total of 5 days. How can this be? The sole is ripped up after a week. I don't have the receipts because I am a moron.
I can't afford £45 each on clarkes shoes. I have looked in all the charity shops but school shoes are never sent in. Are they all just shit?
Considering just sending them in converse because at least they last and look alright even when they are tattered and old. and converse are easy enough to find on second hand market places.
Am I the only one? I thought 20 quid was a lot, I usually go for the 12 pound ones but thought I'd go more expensive thinking they would last better. Ha!
Also, I am worried about spending more money and still getting the same results.
I never have this problem with home shoes, mostly they last until we outgrow.

There are also plenty of similar complaints on the reviews. I unsuccessfully tried to return them without a receipt and got told they must have been used incorrectly. This have given me some encouragement to go back again.

Have you got Windsor's near by? We got
Kickers for £40 there's also a schu and Clarke's outlet shop online. eBay also have an office shop where they sell ex display

DilysPhyllis · 10/09/2021 22:14

3 kids ranging from 15 downwards, I've had all supermarket brands, Clarks, Kickers over the years and none have lasted except Treads which have been a revelation. Ds1 hasn't outgrown last years yet and he's wearing them again this year, still look perfect. They are cheaper than usual at the moment too I think £25, usually £45 but even then they're good value as you're not buying 2/3 pairs a year.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 10/09/2021 22:27

Nearly everyone is advising you to take them back, then have a look at Clarks outlets. Does your kid play football? If so, give them a pair of old shoes or trainers to play in

monkeysox · 10/09/2021 22:31

Take them back. They swapped flip flops for my DD which only lasted two wears

Frarnces · 10/09/2021 22:50

Lidl still had a lot of leather school shoes in last week. That might be worth a try. They were under £10!

Ozanj · 10/09/2021 22:51

Visit the clarks outlet website

Blueuggboots · 10/09/2021 22:58

Treads.

purpleme12 · 10/09/2021 22:58

I'm not surprised by this
I've bought shoes for my child before from there. About the same price. They did the same thing although I don't think it was the sole with her
I did take them back that time with the receipt. I had to argue my case they weren't going to let me, tried to blame my child but I did get them to give me a refund.

I've had too many experiences like that with children's shoes from supermarkets now. They don't last. So yes it's expensive and yes we shouldn't have to pay that much but we do so I now only get them from clarkes because it's false economy from the other shops. Clarks always last way longer than any other shop I've got them from. Way longer quality wise I mean before they start falling apart

dogsdogsdogs · 10/09/2021 23:00

I've had shoes from lots of different shops. they usually last a couple of months at most. There all the same

crikey456 · 10/09/2021 23:01

Definitely take them back!

I used to work in a clothes shop and people would come back in quite often with faults in their clothing and we would refund them.

DeepaBeesKit · 10/09/2021 23:04

All these people saying their kids "kill" shoes and they can find few brands their children don't trash in weeks....

Seems like it's not the shoes, its your kids, and for the environments sake they need to learn to look after their footwear. Do people really think it's ok for children to wantonly destroy 3 or 4 pairs of shoes a year? That's just carelessness.

My DS is fairly rough so they get scuffed about and don't amazing but the shoes don't fall to bits!

Purpleheadgirl · 10/09/2021 23:07

Best shoes we found were actually good sturdy shoes from aldi.....had an argument in asda because they said kids had used what were clearly school shoes, inappropriately, by running in the playground which was why it wasn't their fault shoes fell to pieces after four weeks!

bshfan · 10/09/2021 23:10

What size do you need op? I have 2 pairs of Clark's girls shoes that were worn last year but still in good condition you can have.

cookingisoverrated · 11/09/2021 11:28

I bought a relatively inepair of black school shoes from M&S once, in May, because his feet at grown and just needed to get him through the end of the schoo lyear.

cookingisoverrated · 11/09/2021 11:32

Accidentally hit post... argh.

I bought a relatively inexpensive pair of black school shoes from M&S once in May, because son's feet had grown and just needed to get him through the end of the summer term. They lasted about 15 school days and were completely destroyed. He was driven to school, so not biking or scootering, and wasn't a footballer at playtimes. I took them back and quickly got a full refund after holding them up for all to see in the line when the woman at the counter hesitated over it. Not fit for purpose.

Ditto for a pair of boots from Tesco we bought for a son's holiday walking. The bottoms were coming off by the end of the week we were away. I returned them for a full refund when we got home.

It's why we normally try to buy name branded shoes on sale because they do last longer.

SweetLathyrus · 11/09/2021 12:04

@Smartphonetoomuchoo if you used a nectar card to collect points, they can trace the purchase from that.

Wandafishcake · 11/09/2021 12:07

try EBay?
