Neighbour asking us not to buy takeaways

Very recently moved house and have no working oven (should be ready by Friday) so we’ve unfortunately been relying on takeaways/eating out. We are also still sorting things out and kitchen is one of the last things to do. Not ideal but the end is in sight.

Neighbour introduced themselves on the first day, seemed very nice and friendly.

Today I came home, coffee and sandwich in hand, to him calling me over and saying he’s noticed we’ve had a lot of takeaways since we’ve moved and could we not do so. Apparently his 8 year old daughter sees and asks why she can’t have one.

I explained the above and said we don’t really have much choice right now, but that from the weekend we should have an oven etc. he seemed ok about it.

He wasn’t rude when asking but aibu to think he’s very nosey? And that he can’t dictate what we eat?! For info, none of the takeaways have been delivered, all collected by us so it’s not like a delivery driver is knocking on his door or anything.

I would laugh and laugh. In his face. And probably ramp up my obvious carrying of takeaways as @SLAGofepicproportions says.

YANBU OP

Be wary of him from now on. If you see him coming towards you take out your phone, pretend to chat to someone and keep walking. And when you get your oven delivered, order a takeaway to be delivered to celebrate Grin

Whatdoihavetodo · 09/09/2021 18:28

Lol if this is true, would make me order even more takeaways and I think you should have a bbq every night too.

How can he even think he can tell you want to do, I think this is going to be just the start!

honeylulu · 09/09/2021 18:30

I would have said can you send your daughter to live somewhere else please. I don't have children and my husband is fed up with me asking why can't I have a baby whenever I see her ...

More seriously I would gleefully start getting takeaways delivered and wave happily at the neighbours when I stood out front to collect them.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 09/09/2021 18:51

What's the point of him saying that? Does he want you to buy his daughter one as well?

tillytown · 09/09/2021 19:00

I'd be more concerned about him spying on you than the takeaways comments, what a creepy man

LlamasintheFog · 09/09/2021 19:34

OP you must get a Happy Meal delivered there 😂

Flyingantday · 09/09/2021 19:37

@BruceAndNosh

Are you ordering an entire meat pie each?
Grin
ConsulTremas · 09/09/2021 19:46

I would actually laugh in his face, and probably increase the rate at which I order takeaways.

hashbrownsandwich · 09/09/2021 21:02

As predicted I've just seen this has been nabbed by the daily mirror.

I swear I've seen 4 or 5 articals in papers recently which are MN threads.

No shit.
GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 09/09/2021 21:35

Ridiculous.
Once I banned a pupil from football for a week because of his disgusting behaviour toward other children while playing. His mother came in and asked that if he's not allowed to play, could I just stop all ball games for the week, as it was it was a double punishment for him to watch others playing while banned himself.
I don't know how I remained polite.

gingerbiscuits · 09/09/2021 21:35

What a rude weirdo!!!!!

BlotBangRub · 09/09/2021 21:36

If this is real then I would have ordered a takeaway every night of the week and had it delivered.
On a weekend, I'd have food delivered at lunchtime too from my local delicious sandwich shop.
Just to piss him off even more.

Theworldishard · 09/09/2021 21:36

Wtf!!! I'd be thinking about re - selling.

Theworldishard · 09/09/2021 21:38

Also Op you need to get a little more assertive in life. I'm a nice passive person but I would have definitely said that it's not up to you to ask what I do etc..I wouldn't be mumbling excuses about kitchen etc. You've just fed into it. Seriously, stand up for yourself!

WorraLiberty · 09/09/2021 21:38

He said that did he? Aye.

Pebbledashery · 09/09/2021 21:39

Looool this has got to be a joke.

Shocked 🙄🙄
Pebbledashery · 09/09/2021 21:40

Just to piss him off I'd accidentally get a takeaway delivered to his house by mistake.

IngridTails · 09/09/2021 21:40

Is this a joke?

I was on an aeroplane once and a passenger asked the Cabin Crew to warm a baby's bottle of milk up. Another passenger who also had a baby said the to Cabin Crew as they took it back to the galley on top of their cart (honestly!) "can you hide that bottle of milk so my baby doesn't see it"

Name12341 · 09/09/2021 21:41

Ask him to stop cooking as the idea of him preparing food at home is making you upset about your lack of a functioning kitchen. He might notice how ridiculous he sounded, or may still not.

TaraR2020 · 09/09/2021 21:42

I'd hire a bouncy castle for the weekend

That'd learn 'im
