Neighbour asking us not to buy takeaways

Ribrabrob · 09/09/2021 14:28

Very recently moved house and have no working oven (should be ready by Friday) so we’ve unfortunately been relying on takeaways/eating out. We are also still sorting things out and kitchen is one of the last things to do. Not ideal but the end is in sight.

Neighbour introduced themselves on the first day, seemed very nice and friendly.

Today I came home, coffee and sandwich in hand, to him calling me over and saying he’s noticed we’ve had a lot of takeaways since we’ve moved and could we not do so. Apparently his 8 year old daughter sees and asks why she can’t have one.

I explained the above and said we don’t really have much choice right now, but that from the weekend we should have an oven etc. he seemed ok about it.

He wasn’t rude when asking but aibu to think he’s very nosey? And that he can’t dictate what we eat?! For info, none of the takeaways have been delivered, all collected by us so it’s not like a delivery driver is knocking on his door or anything.

Thats amazing! please make sure you keep the packaging, cover it with clear sticky plastic for longevity it you must, and continue to carry it daily whenever you enter / leave you house. Think keys, handbag, takeaway bag.

cherrytreecottage · 09/09/2021 16:07

What the actual hell? Firstly, even if all of your takeaways were being delivered..its none of their damn business what you eat or from where.
He'd hate me as a neighbour; my oven works perfectly and I still get daily takeaways!!

Also, given they're not being delivered - creepy that they're watching so closely to see how many you are getting!

HaveringWavering · 09/09/2021 16:09

@Ribrabrob

I don’t think he was joking because of the way he said it but I’m really hoping it was Grin

I shouldn’t have explained myself to him, no, but I’m not the most assertive and to be honest I felt a bit embarrassed. It was just all very odd.

I could easily imagine someone like my Dad coming out with a very deadpan “Takeaway again? You’ll need to stop getting so many, my daughter keeps seeing you with Domino’s boxes and asking why she can’t have one”

People who didn’t know him might have thought he was serious.

OP are you new to the region? Sometimes local humour varies.

HaveringWavering · 09/09/2021 16:11

And in my region of birth people think nothing of making jokes to people that they hardly know. I’ve noticed that this is less common where I now live and people sometimes are a bit taken aback when I do it.

ChargingBuck · 09/09/2021 16:12

@MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet

I have heard it all now! I thought perhaps the drivers had been annoying them but that really takes the biscuit.
Can you not talk about biscuits please MustBe? My dog has a wide snack vocabulary, & if he hears you, he'll want one ...
WitchBaby · 09/09/2021 16:49

Well can you not mention dogs please ChargingBuck as my DC might read this and want one.

TopBlogger · 09/09/2021 17:11

@BruceAndNosh

Are you ordering an entire meat pie each?
I cant find the Pie thread - has it been deleted? Surely it wasnt a Pie troll Hmm
Razorsharp · 09/09/2021 17:12

BAT. SHIT. CRAZY.

notthemum · 09/09/2021 17:16

Ah, bloody hell @TopBlogger.
I want a pie now.

ajja2021 · 09/09/2021 17:20

Hahaha I'd of laughed in his face.

Perpop · 09/09/2021 17:21

Where did the pie thread go??

Perpop · 09/09/2021 17:21

@TopBlogger same!

Boobieboobieboobie · 09/09/2021 17:22

Omg I would completley ignore CF. Hes going to be a terrible neighbour, sorry!

nananacomeon · 09/09/2021 17:26

What is the pie thread

CatJumperTwat · 09/09/2021 17:33

Has anybody else ordered takeaway after looking at the OP's posting history? I've got a madras on the way...

bluetoothroboticgrapefruit · 09/09/2021 17:34

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4344332-Meat-pie-woman deleted

YouDoYouBoo · 09/09/2021 17:34

Yes, I also thought of the pie thread!

@nananacomeon, it was a thread earlier today which was another food related bonkers one. Where some woman was apparently rushing her to the front of the dinner queue, buying the entire pie and eating it all. MN deleted it.

NewPotential · 09/09/2021 17:35

I would have laughed, and told him to not be tight and buy his daughter a pizza lol

bobblebeebob · 09/09/2021 17:41

Nosey bastard
Hes been paying a bit too much attention to you

Hoppinggreen · 09/09/2021 17:53

@WitchBaby

Why are posters saying to get his DD a takeaway too? Little madam (and her wet lettuce Father) can sod right off with that and learn you don't always get what you want.
It’s called sarcasm
Canunot · 09/09/2021 17:53

Haha next time I’d order a kids meal and get the delivery driver to drop it off next door for his daughter

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 09/09/2021 18:01

Fuck off is a full sentence OP.

cricketmum84 · 09/09/2021 18:01

Bloody ridiculous and also quite funny 😂😂

Gwarn · 09/09/2021 18:04

Not sure why my comment was removed. It merely questioned why the OP seemed to have a long history of posting about takeaways.

Djifunrsn · 09/09/2021 18:18

What a fucking weirdo!
