The one I dislike most is 'and just like that'

'And just like that I have a (2, 12, 18 insert number) year old'

'And just like that she's off to university'

Am I alone in finding this exceedingly annoying?

It's not the only one.

'This dress is everything'
'This cake is everything'

Why do people copy these irritating trends? It's not young people either!

@LBirch02

The phrase ‘Two Beauty’s’ (always spelt thus) underneath some unremarkable looking people

tellmewhen/kittenkipping

I wonder where Nandos would be without this immortal catchphrase !

peaceanddove · 07/09/2021 16:01

I can't bear the sentimental hyperbole e.g."I love you to the moon and back because you are such a shining star in my life and every moment spent with you makes me feel so very blessed. Thank you for being you because you are perfect."

Urgh. And it's always, always someone who you know is in a slightly ropey relationship.

Or when they wax lyrical about their young child e.g. "You amaze me every single day with your kindness, sweetness and strength. You inspire me to be a better person and a better Mummy. Thank you for being the sunshine in my life and sharing your incredible journey with me."

I always think that these culprits sneakily think they're rather good at writing. They're not.

Though it's not a phrase but a thing, I hate it when people boast about their charitable works or post a picture.

"Just dropped off this hamper at the homeless shelter" etc.

CRIIIIIIIINGE

takehomepay · 07/09/2021 16:47

I agree, very cathartic thread!

I wonder if anyone reading this recognises that they use some of these and what their reaction is.

I’ve used one or two but in the distant past so don’t feel too aggrieved.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 07/09/2021 17:03

Aside from that I couldn't bear messages in cards and texts saying 'hope you can enjoy it under the circumstances' Just a 'happy birthday' or 'happy Christmas' would have done

But if you didn't say that then they'd be moaning that you wished them happy birthday knowing it wouldn't be happy and because of lockdown they couldn't go out for the "cheeky" wine or gin with their "lovely friends" and post #blessed everywhere.

I hate those too. Especially the ones that are just an explosion of meaningless adjectives. "So proud of this one, our beautiful, kind, funny, caring, brave, adventurous, determined little man who lights up our world every day".
lockdownmadnessdotcom · 07/09/2021 17:04

@CatMandarin

Something I've noticed recently on mumsnet is people describing someone expressing a different opinion than their own as "screaming." Eg. Why do people scream that we should do so and so. No screaming has occurred they've just expressed an opinion. It's a bloody irritating trend that people have started copying off each other.
Probably guilty of this one. Sorry. Will stop!
takehomepay · 07/09/2021 17:06

Has ‘for the win’ stopped being used now? Hated that one.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 07/09/2021 17:07

The fucking awful spelling of gawjuss instead of gorgeous which plagues facebook

Oh yes - where did that abomination come from?

And yes to all the hashtags. #sunny #bluesky #sunshine #sunshinegirl #hot #hotandsunny #yougetthemessageitisaniceday

Owned!!

Mankyfruitbowl · 07/09/2021 17:18

"My husband is better than your husband" - accompanied by a picture of an average-looking meal cooked by said god among men.

"Got my hair did" - I see this a lot and it just makes me cringe with its faux-coyness. Just say what you mean, which is "Give me compliments!!!!"

GobbledyGeek · 07/09/2021 17:19

Feeling blessed
Wine o’clock
You alright hun?

Iknownothing · 07/09/2021 17:22

‘Making memories’ - nope you’re just having a normal day with your kids
Any of the mlm posts - ‘can’t believe how much energy I have on this programme - pm me for details’
But my chief irritant is the long, long cryptic posts saying stuff like - ‘ I am who I am, I know what you said behind my back. You can try to destroy me but I will come back stronger. From now on it’s just me etc etc’ usually accompanied by a meme saying what a hard bitch they are. Honestly I don’t care, stop attention seeking.

RincewindsHat · 07/09/2021 17:27

Photos accompanied by:
"Because Tuesday."
"Because Wednesday."
"Because cake."
"Because sunshine."

Urgh, stop it!

Sarahuk1 · 07/09/2021 18:00

People who @ shops like they are being sponsored by them or being paid to wear/promote/eat their product and haven't just bought it like everyone.else.in.the.world
"Thanks @newlook for my amazing (generic) outfit"
"Thanks @Gordon Ramsey for a delicious meal and top night out"
🙄🙄🙄

silkience · 07/09/2021 18:05

My pet hate is when people want to alert everyone to the fact that they have done a good deed under the guise of "if you left your purse on the bus I handed it into the driver" (as if that weren't the first place people would ask anyway) followed by lots of "well done hon the world needs more people like you" and "you've restored my faith in humanity" and clapping emojis

Tonkerbea · 07/09/2021 20:37

This thread is so satisfying. Cant stand 'photo dump' of "thing you want to show off about". Most of social media is a thinly disguised humble brag. Makes me ragey, but have to use it for work.

Anon778833 · 07/09/2021 20:50

'She thought she could do it so she did' - the MLM bots love this one.

'I'm so excited to be starting a Fambam'

DemBonesDemBones · 07/09/2021 20:51

Yes making memories is absolutely 🤮

sammylady37 · 07/09/2021 21:03

I roll my eyes every time I see “just spat out my tea” or “Coffee. Everywhere.” etc. It’s such bullshit. And what caused this supposed reaction is invariably some utterly banal shit.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 07/09/2021 21:08

'And so it begins' - fuck off, you're drinking prosecco in your garden. Its hardly an Everest attempt

My thoughts exactly!

SharpLily · 07/09/2021 21:29

@Laney39

Out for a cheeky nandos with this one🤢
I can go one worse - someone I know always talks about a "cheeki Nandos/gin/whatever". Cheeki with an I Envy. The green face is supposed to mean vomit rather than envy. MN is a bit stingy with the emoji selection. Or stingi...Sad
pleurotus · 07/09/2021 21:32
