The one I dislike most is 'and just like that'

'And just like that I have a (2, 12, 18 insert number) year old'

'And just like that she's off to university'

Am I alone in finding this exceedingly annoying?

It's not the only one.

'This dress is everything'
'This cake is everything'

Why do people copy these irritating trends? It's not young people either!

I do agree that "making memories" means the parents will remember it fondly (and the kids the odd bit). I've realised what really irks me about it, which is it almost always seems to be something expensive/hard to do, meaning most people can't access it.

I never see "making memories" about sitting on the sofa with your kids tucked up under a blanket watching Dumbo, but some of the happiest actual memories of my childhood were things just like that. It always seems to be Disneyland/zipwire/west end show/expensive holiday to Australia. And sure those things are going to be memorable but more "normal" stuff is the fabric of life and when I think of e.g. my mum I picture her sitting round the table with me, not up the top of the Shard etc.

@lap90

So it's not just me... lol.

I recall a tweet poking fun at the 'I married my best friend' line.

It read: "I married my best friend" - well congratulations to you from us who will be marrying our mortal enemies.

This is brilliant. When I see those posts I always want to reply "I didn't know you'd left Dan for Anisha?!" (insert relevant names). Especially when the husband in question is a soulless lump who barely knows his wife's birthday.

Oh god yes. I have a lovely friend who says stuff like this. It's so annoying.

For me it's

I can't even . You can't even what?? Confused

IsabellesMissingSock · 07/09/2021 13:41

@WheelieBinPrincess

Does anyone else have someone who does the ‘when’ thing?

‘When hubby sends you flowers on your anniversary’

‘When you go out for pizza on a Friday night’

Accompanied by the pic. I can’t bear it. WHEN.

Yes, I can't stand this. Such lazy writing. "When you go out for pizza" - what does that even mean? What about it?! Argh.
FoxgloveSummers · 07/09/2021 13:47

“I can’t believe this big boy is 147 months old!”

unicornpower · 07/09/2021 13:51

Holibobs. I hate that word with a passion!!

Misspacorabanne · 07/09/2021 14:02

honeylulu · 07/09/2021 14:06

"I can't believe my boy is 6 today!" Er, really? You are his mother, you were there when he was born and you know when his birthday is - why don't you "believe" it?

Firstinlastout · 07/09/2021 14:10

Baby Mamma, Baby Daddy.Fucks sake,what's wrong with just mum or dad !

LBirch02 · 07/09/2021 14:14

Cheeseplantboots · 07/09/2021 14:17

“My world” drives me bonkers too.

Wishingwell75 · 07/09/2021 14:23

Exactly! @SmashingBlousen - I don't think my DM would appreciate anyone sliding into her. 😁

Dogmum40 · 07/09/2021 14:26

Love you to the moon and back! How about just the good old plain and simple “I love you”

Congratulations on another year round the sun /well done on doing another 365 days around the planet - how about plain and simple Happy Birthday

Making memories- ahhh fuck off, your kid probably had a melt down over something whilst you were there making memories and wanted to come home as soon as you could and hated every minute like most parents 🤣

Absolutely everything my friends post who are MLM representatives! Your not business woman, your not living your best life and your “employees” - who are not your employees are not Huns, BFFs or your favourite humans- again just fuck off and go to work properly and stop advertising shit noone wants on SM

EishetChayil · 07/09/2021 14:30

"Thanks for listening to my TED talk."

It wasn't a TED talk, you daft 'aporth. It was you regurgitating some A-level Politics opinion on the media storm of the moment.

LBirch02 · 07/09/2021 14:51

Remember everyone- if you can’t handle me at my worst you don’t deserve me at my best!!

LBirch02 · 07/09/2021 14:53

The epitome os emotional maturity on social media is surely the phrase

“You’ll need me before I need you?” Together with an appropriate meme?

SillyLittleBiscuit · 07/09/2021 15:12

The only one I can think of is “a/another lockdown birthday”. We all had them but some seemed to think it was worse for them/their kids.

Ponoka7 · 07/09/2021 15:34

""I can't believe my boy is 6 today!" Er, really? You are his mother, you were there when he was born and you know when his birthday is - why don't you "believe" it?"

That's just churlish. Time goes nowhere. The summer holidays flew. It doesn't seem like seven and four years ago that my grandchildren were born. My youngest GC doesn't seem old enough to be going to school.

Legomania · 07/09/2021 15:37

'Broken' when used for describing minor life hiccups

IngridTails · 07/09/2021 15:44

@SillyLittleBiscuit

Aside from that I couldn't bear messages in cards and texts saying 'hope you can enjoy it under the circumstances'

Just a 'happy birthday' or 'happy Christmas' would have done.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/09/2021 15:48

@kittenkipping

Can I also add "a cheeky" anything. Gin, pint, cake, spa day. I don't fucking care Sharon! You're paying for a thing, perfectly polite, and are a fucking adult!!! It's not cheeky you carrot! Nor should an adult woman aspire to cheekiness ffs
