@Shirleyphallus

i think when she was a minor actress, she befriended him on social media, and they had a few exchanges. They met for a drink when she was in the UK - she met Harry and ghosted him.

Just a public service klaxon to remind everyone that you don’t owe any man any friendship and if you meet someone once and they give off creepy vibes it’s absolutely acceptable to choose not to continue the friendship.

Absolutely right. Despite the fact that she did the chasing originally.

But it would be logical to suppose that it was nothing to do with creepiness, but more that she was advised to steer clear. That would be back in the days when she took advice! Grin

@NotPersephone

Don’t like the bloke. But pointing out that a proven liar is a liar should never have been so controversial, no matter who said it.
Exactly
BrilliantBetty · 01/09/2021 14:51

YANBU. Agreed with him.
Lets allow free speech.

stepupandbecounted · 01/09/2021 14:52

Free speech lives to see another day!

BrozTito · 01/09/2021 14:52

Good morning britain is not the fucking government. Understand?

CovidCorvid · 01/09/2021 14:53

@ilovemydogandmrobama2

I seriously don't understand why Piers is so triggered by Meghan Confused
Have you not heard how he thought they were friends before Harry? I’m sure I read they’d had drinks once, they’d made plans to meet again and then she met Harry and ignored piers from then on. I think he felt used and pissed off and has taken this very personally.

I do think he has an axe to grind with her but I also think he’s right about what he said. Even if I didn’t agree with what he said he has a right to his opinion.

And as for her messaging the complaints woman and saying something about “we’re both women and mothers” is nauseating.

I hope he gets his job back. I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes legal action for constructive dismissal against itv.

SpindleWhorl · 01/09/2021 14:56

the regulator found that [the] remarks were “potentially harmful and offensive” but were allowable because the code allows freedom of expression.

Gosh, if only the regulator could apply that thinking to the words of women.

Or are women's words just 'toooo hurtful' and 'tooooo triggering'?

@MrsRobbieHart

and a blow to “cancel culture”.

He wasn’t cancelled, was he? He walked out.

He was told to apologise or leave. I think he’d have preferred to stay (and not apologise) but out of the two choices he had he’d rather leave.
wink1970 · 01/09/2021 14:57

Specifically, wasn't it that he questioned her saying she was suicidal? He did point out that her husband had set up and fronted a mental health charity, which used a lot of palace resources & people. so I can understand why he thought she was lying about not getting any help.

StoneofDestiny · 01/09/2021 15:01

The irony.
Morgan gets to pass his opinion - no problem with that. When Alex Beresford, the weatherman passed his opinion to Morgan, Morgan stomps off in a hissy fit.
You couldn't make it up.

Marguerite2000 · 01/09/2021 15:01

@Shirleyphallus

I think it’s pretty shit that a woman said she was suicidal and people were lining up to accuse her of lying

What does that meme say?
“Someone says they’re suicidal = attention seeking
Someone dies by suicide = oh they should have spoken to me about it”

Well, that's an unfortunate result of being caught out lying on an earlier ocassion. It does mean that some people won't automatically believe everything you say in the future.

1forAll74 · 01/09/2021 15:09

I don't think Piers Morgan gives a monkey if he his cleared of anything or not. His trademark is to kind of snarl, and be sarcastic about many people.. some people like his bad remarks, and his freedom to say nasty and odd ball things about lots of people.

Hundreds of people like his style. and Hundreds of people don't, so he will always be doing his stuff on tv no doubt..

Whiskyinajar · 01/09/2021 15:10

@Mrgrinch

I hope he goes back to GMB, I haven't watched a single episode since he left.
Ermm....no...he stormed off. Bloody prima donna.

He can get to fuck as far as I'm concerned give his comments about mental health.

MrsRobbieHart · 01/09/2021 15:32

He was told to apologise or leave. I think he’d have preferred to stay (and not apologise) but out of the two choices he had he’d rather leave.

Ahh thank you. I don’t think that counts as cancel culture though. He was bloody offensive and GMB didn’t want to provide a platform for that. We have freedom of speech but not freedom from the consequences of what we say.

Shirleyphallus · 01/09/2021 15:37

@Marguerite2000 what was the lie she told that made people disbelieve her on the suicidal thoughts?

LakieLady · 01/09/2021 15:37

I bloody loathe the man and every word he utters, but I agree with the decision. It's a freedom of speech matter imo.

However, I'd love her to sue him for slander or defamation or something, because what he said was utterly vile and I do suspect his motives for saying it. He's an odious piece of shit, even when drinking in the country pub I've seen him in twice. An absolute braying braggart.

LakieLady · 01/09/2021 15:43

A "creep" has the right to express an opinion too, you know

And rightly so. Freedom of speech applies to arseholes like Morgan just as much as to decent people.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/09/2021 15:54

Piers Morgan is a proven liar yet people still hang on to every word he says, particularly when it comes to Meghan. He’s been instrumental in a lot of the hate she’s received. He’s a pathetic, little man who can’t cope with the fact that she was probably told that their “friendship”, and I use that in the loosest of terms, couldn’t continue.

He’s blocked me on Twitter, because free speech doesn’t work both ways in his world, so at least I don’t have to put up with his gloating.

WomanStanleyWoman · 01/09/2021 16:12

I can’t stand him and never could. Long before his feud with La Markle, I remember the footage of him at the British Comedy Awards howling with laughter at Julian Clary’s ‘fisting Norman Lamont’ comment - before using his newspaper days later to launch a campaign to have Clary banned from television.

His obsession with MM is quite frankly disturbing. I get the impression that he massively overestimated the friendship in the first place - and even if he didn’t, I can’t believe some as media-savvy as he is cannot get that, once she joined the Royal Family, a close friendship with a tabloid journalist was always going to be a no-no.

But none of this matters in terms of the ruling - which was correct. Whether it’s very #bekind to suggest someone claiming they are suicidal is lying is irrelevant. The alternative to ruling in Morgan’s favour was setting the precedent that you cannot call someone a liar on television - which has massive implications.

About being married privately three days before her wedding.
