To want adult sons to get the Covid vaccination before they visit us again?

We have 3 Ds 1 has had the vaccination due to health issues, the other 2 have no intentions of getting the vaccine, they are age 41 39 36 they visit us regularly and stay over often at weekends.
My Dh aged 63 and myself aged 61 have both been vaccinated and also both of us had Covid in January, my husband ended up in hospital with it which obviously was quite worrying at the time.
I am getting more uneasy as winter approaches would I be unreasonable to tell them to not visit us until they have got vaccinated? Or would I be overreacting?

Blossomtoes the point of vaccination is to protect:

  • the vaccinated
  • those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons
  • those who cannot be vaccinated because of age (in the case of the COVID vaccine)
  • those for whom the vaccine may not be as effective as it is for most: people who are cancer survivors or who are otherwise immunocompromised, like my next door neighbour.

Vaccination is not just a selfish act for the individual, it is also an altruistic act towards people who are part of the society you live in. Wilfully not being vaccinated when you have no medical reason for it is selfishness.

Ah, the good old s word again. On a societal level the point of vaccination is herd immunity which we’re just about at now. It might be an altruistic act for some people but I’m pretty sure it isn’t for the vast majority. I got vaccinated for me and so did everyone else I know.

Case rates at the moment don't suggest we're anywhere near herd immunity.

Whitty said right at the beginning 85% was herd immunity. Well over that percentage now have antibodies across all age groups. Case rates don’t matter, severe illness and deaths do and those are now down to flu levels.

Your house, your rules, it still stands doesn't it?
