If you're 38+years does your body hurt when you get out of bed?

My pelvis hurts when I get out of bed or drive for a long time.
There's various reasons for this, and thought it was just me.

However, it turns out DH hurts in the morning. And my friend came round yesterday and he hurts in the morning.

So is this an age thing?!

None of us are overweight although I'm borderline. My friend and I are definitely unfit. DH is really fit but in his 50's.

YANBU - I'm 38+ and things hurt
YABU - what are you on about? Nothing is supposed to hurt!

I'm 35 and recently started noticing lots of niggles and aches 😳
I've started doing yoga in a daily basis and it's definitely helping!

Thatsplentyjack · 30/08/2021 09:50

I'm 31 and I ache in the morning. Especially my back.

LagneyandCasey · 30/08/2021 09:50

I'm in my 50s and do ache after long car journeys (we have an old crap car) but not in the mornings. You might need a new mattress. Too hard or too soft is no good. Are you turning it regularly?

Foreverbaffled · 30/08/2021 09:50

I'm 38 and hurt! I have hypermobility syndrome though to be fair. My 40 year old DS is strong and fit and even he has crunchy knees and stiff joints in the morning...

Foreverbaffled · 30/08/2021 09:51

DH!! Not DS

LammasFires · 30/08/2021 09:52

Mid 50s I noticed it. I do stretches for around 10 minutes and that sorts it out.

tiredanddangerous · 30/08/2021 09:52

I'm 41 and my hips are dreadful first thing in the morning. They also hurt if I stand still for too long Confused

I had this, got a new mattress and all sorted!
arethereanyleftatall · 30/08/2021 09:53

No, not at all. I'm 46. I'm fit though (lots of yoga, Pilates, walking, swimming) so maybe it's that? Pilates is a bit boring but I do think it's very good for you.

KatherineOfGaunt · 30/08/2021 09:53

I'm 49 and my first few steps in the morning are definitely staggers rather than normal walking.

I just bought a Simba mattress which helped significantly with the pelvis pain.

40! Not 49!

evilharpy · 30/08/2021 09:54

Not usually unless I'm having a flare up of a back condition - however I'm currently suffering from sciatica and getting out of bed in the morning is torture.

I teach pilates but my classes are in the evenings. I covered someone's morning class at 7am the other day and there was a chorus of joints popping and cracking Grin

Yes that's exactly the same for me!

No, but I exercise five to six times a week. I was suffering stiff ankles in the morning but I started taking cod liver oil capsules and rhey are fine now. I’m fifty two.

TeaandHobnobs · 30/08/2021 09:56

Yep I’ve been suffering with this too (38).
For the hips, I’ve found that a pillow between the knees at night (like when pregnant!) has really helped.
This autumn I’m going to be doing Pilates and ballet - I really hope strengthening my muscles is going to reduce the aches and pains.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 30/08/2021 09:56

44 here, no issues. I'm not particularly fit although I walk a lot and do pilates.

Wombat96 · 30/08/2021 09:58

I was terrible during my 30s. I did a load of weight training in my early 40s and that's really helped with overnight pain. Now just stiff as I turn 50...

OneAugustNight · 30/08/2021 09:58

I had awful aches and pains for years. Hands, feet and lower back mainly. I was living on painkillers. Weirdly, now I’m in my late 50s I don’t ache at all!

fufulina · 30/08/2021 09:59

I used to stagger out of bed - creaking ankles, knees - felt awful. Lost three stone and stopped sugar. That’s sorted it. Although I think sugar was the main culprit for me. All that inflammation in joints!

Yes! I sometimes feel like none of my joints are connected when I first get up. It helps if I stretch my legs and ankles in bed first just to make sure they are all still there Grin
Macncheeseballs · 30/08/2021 10:02

No, see a physiotherapist

SirSamuelVimes · 30/08/2021 10:07

Yep. 38 and my back and hips hurt in the morning. Though I think that's a combination of being overweight and that my mattress needs to be replaced.

I need to drop at least three stone. If I manage it I will reward myself with a new mattress!

Ditto, although I'm 47! Everything has hurt in the morning since DC4 was born when I was 36, I think his arrival finished me off.

I know I feel better when I weigh less and do regular Pilates / stretches first thing. I know I hurt less when I reduce refined sugar and gluten. I know I mustn't sleep on my front as I wake up completely stuck and sometimes DH has to roll me over Blush. I know ibuprofen is often my friend.

pigsDOfly · 30/08/2021 10:11

I'm 72 and don't ache in the morning.

I've always slept on a firm mattress. Don't know if that makes any different.

The only time I've ached is when I've fallen down stairs, which I did a number of years ago. I really hurt my back and was in pain for a couple of weeks.

Otherwise the only other aches I get is if I fall asleep on the sofa and wake up with a crick in my neck, that might last for a few hours.

I've been packing up my house recently prior to moving and lugging heavy furniture and boxes around; still no aches.

If I ached every morning I'd be looking at seeing a doctor or an osteopath depending on the type, and site, of the ache.

Unless you've got a diagnosed condition that causes you to ache I wouldn't have thought that it's something to just accept as 'aging'.
