If you're 38+years does your body hurt when you get out of bed?

My pelvis hurts when I get out of bed or drive for a long time.
There's various reasons for this, and thought it was just me.

However, it turns out DH hurts in the morning. And my friend came round yesterday and he hurts in the morning.

So is this an age thing?!

None of us are overweight although I'm borderline. My friend and I are definitely unfit. DH is really fit but in his 50's.

YANBU - I'm 38+ and things hurt
YABU - what are you on about? Nothing is supposed to hurt!

@Brieeeeeeeeeeee

I voted YABU but I do get this - I used to be very active, and for various reasons over the last year I don’t work out regularly any more and have gained weight. I ache now and I know it’s not meant to be like this. When I exercised 5 times a week and was normal BMI I felt great.
I’m the same. I ache, but I don’t think it’s an age thing. I think it’s because I’ve gained weight, exercise less and now have a desk job.
ferretface · 30/08/2021 16:50

35 almost 36 and I don't ache but I do suffer from very stiff ankles that take a while to warm up. It's worse when I'm training a lot. It started when I started training intensively so I always thought it was just that but maybe it's age too!

ShowOfHands · 30/08/2021 16:56

Nope. I'm pretty fit (work out every day, running, strength training, weights, hiit, cycling or climbing) and never ache. DH, however is probably even fitter than me and he aches an awful lot. He's only 39 and they've checked him over. It's arthritis. His Dad was the same at his age.

TammyTwoSwanson · 30/08/2021 17:00

I used to hurt every morning, but I was seriously deficient in vit D and some other vits. Six months of high dose vitamin D tablets sorted it out, now I've no pain. (I'm 38)

EatSprayGlove · 30/08/2021 17:01

Similar age and immense hip pain. Did have back/neck issues but they were mattress related.

GoodnightGrandma · 30/08/2021 17:02

Wait until you’re 50 🤣🤣🤣

ejhhhhh · 30/08/2021 17:05

Yes, but what started out a niggly aches turned into a shoulder so painful I couldn't move my arm. After lots of expensive physio, I discovered it was my mattress. A new mattress has stopped the aches, but I think it was all age related too. I'm not much more careful, and do regular strength training/yoga/pilates/mobility work, rather than wall to wall cardio which wasn't actually particularly beneficial for my body.

ejhhhhh · 30/08/2021 17:06

*now

Ozanj · 30/08/2021 17:07

I’m 41 and no things should definitely not hurt. Mum’s osteoarthritis pain started at 38 so you should def get it checked out.

GoWalkabout · 30/08/2021 17:09

I did in my early forties, now approaching 50 I don't except today as I ran 20 miles yesterday. DH is always asking me if I ache after we do a long hike, and I never do (he does). I think its declining oestrogen levels maybe, as I started oestrogel hrt and the achy joints, repeated shoulder issues etc all went. I do think reducing sugar and alcohol (which I had to do for meno symptoms) also helps.

Vanishun · 30/08/2021 17:09

I did until I started regular exercise - I just had no real muscles or core strength. The change has been incredible to me.

RobinPenguins · 30/08/2021 17:12

I’m a bit like this first thing in the morning but assumed it’s because I’m overweight, albeit quite active with it. I need to shift some timber to test out the theory.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 30/08/2021 17:16

@KatherineOfGaunt

I'm 49 and my first few steps in the morning are definitely staggers rather than normal walking.
Thank goodness it's not just me! Blush

I suspect when I roll out of bed in a morning I must double in age and then gradually work down to 49 as the day goes on...

longtimemarried · 30/08/2021 17:19

Wait until you are in your seventies!

lazylinguist · 30/08/2021 17:24

I turn 50 in 2 months and I don't ache getting out of bed. I've always been quite bendy. I walk a lot and do regular (short) yoga sessions. I wasn't achy before I did that though tbh, but my strength and flexibility have definitely increased.

Clem4579 · 30/08/2021 17:27

I'm overweight, nearly 50, and don't ache. I take multi-vits with cod liver oil and a vitamin D oral spray. A few years back I read about magnesium deficiency on Mumsnet, started taking a tablet every day and feel so much better for it, no more restless legs or general aches.

ParadiseLaundry · 30/08/2021 17:31

I'm 38 and don't ache when I get out of bed, although I am a bit stiff.

When I was pregnant I ached but it went as soon as babies were born.

Toodlydoo · 30/08/2021 17:33

Yup but overweight, planning to start yoga when little one starts nursery to just start feeling a bit better.

Shannith · 30/08/2021 17:38

I'm 46 and post (early)menopausal- yes I did. So much so that I was getting into the habit of taking painkillers.

A year and a half of daily yoga with Adrienne and I don't. Still a bit stiff. But it goes.

I'm very glad I discovered yoga and found the lovely Adrienne. I only did started it because I ride and realised my stiffness and tension was impacting my ability to stick on.

It's been genuinely life changing/enhancing.

lazylinguist · 30/08/2021 18:52

Yoga is honestly amazing, and you don't really need to be doing hours of it either. I've realised I get more of it done per week by doing 15 mins every day or every other day at home, rather than trying to commit to a 60 or 90 minute session once a week and often skipping it because I don't have time. I don't even use videos any more - I just designed my own simple routine and do that every time - twice through if I feel in the mood. Little and often works well.

DeePlume · 30/08/2021 18:53

Yes! I walk down the stairs like Frankenstein in the mornings haha

celebrategoodtimes42 · 30/08/2021 18:55

I'm so glad I've found this thread.

I'm 37 and for the past couple of months my upper back is so stiff and aches when I get up in the morning. DH said it's because I'm "getting old" and I was like Shock but maybe it actually is

Theworldisquiethere · 30/08/2021 18:59

Oh dear, I’m in my late 20s and everything hurts already!

icedcoffees · 30/08/2021 19:01

I'm 32 and my back and hips ache in the morning - but I do have diagnosed back and spinal conditions.

It's worth getting a check with the GP if it's not normal for you.

NewlyGranny · 30/08/2021 19:08

I'm three decades older than you, OP, and nothing hurts in the mornings unless I've had one wine too many the night before (for me that means two glasses).

But I do spend seriously on a really good mattress every 5 or 6 years. I'd suggest starting there for anyone achey in the mornings. I notice the difference if I have to crash on a sofabed when I stay with one of my very grownup DC.
