If you're 38+years does your body hurt when you get out of bed?

My pelvis hurts when I get out of bed or drive for a long time.
There's various reasons for this, and thought it was just me.

However, it turns out DH hurts in the morning. And my friend came round yesterday and he hurts in the morning.

So is this an age thing?!

None of us are overweight although I'm borderline. My friend and I are definitely unfit. DH is really fit but in his 50's.

YANBU - I'm 38+ and things hurt
YABU - what are you on about? Nothing is supposed to hurt!

No, not unless I’ve done a particularly hard workout the day before.

Brieeeeeeeeeeee · 30/08/2021 11:19

I voted YABU but I do get this - I used to be very active, and for various reasons over the last year I don’t work out regularly any more and have gained weight. I ache now and I know it’s not meant to be like this. When I exercised 5 times a week and was normal BMI I felt great.

From my perspective no one has voted at all!

What does it say your end?

Nope, I’m 57 and pretty fit, strength training and running. I only tend to ache after leg day 😀

In my opinion you are far to young to be aching, I would suggest you start exercising.

RubyFowler · 30/08/2021 11:27

70% YANBU

RubyFowler · 30/08/2021 11:27

But I agree, exercise will make a big difference.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 30/08/2021 11:36

Please don't take up yoga is you have any suspicion of hypermobile joints. It stretches too far because the stretch in itself feels good, and will make the problem worse. You need Pilates.

soughsigh · 30/08/2021 11:46

I'm 32 and have had sore hips for years. Went to the physio when I was pregnant (it got so bad I couldn't weight bear on one leg in the morning), she told me how I should be sitting in the evening and gave me some exercises to do which has helped enormously.

Likewise, a chiropractor has helped my husband's back significantly.

I would get it looked at.

shouldistop · 30/08/2021 11:47

My physio said most people have some form of arthritis in their 30s Shock

Not true. A good Yoga teacher will build a programme to strengthen and not overstretch for hyper mobile students .

No it don’t ache but I started yoga at 26. I’m 41 now - and have had two children - and am stronger / more flexible than I’ve ever been. Don’t just accept it, make lifestyle changes to support the ageing process and make your later years more comfortable.

wheresmymojo · 30/08/2021 11:48

I'm 39 and morbidly obese and don't hurt in the morning.

HotSauceCommittee · 30/08/2021 11:50

Yes, up until the last three mornings when my HRT had finally kicked in. I'm 49.

DiscoDown21 · 30/08/2021 11:52

Honestly I notice a massive difference when I do yoga regularly. Or even regularstretches. It doesn’t have to be fancy pants stand on your head. Lots of basic easy to do yoga positions are amazing for stretching out that muscle!

wheresmymojo · 30/08/2021 11:53

Honestly I'm a size 22, eat all the sugar and carbs and do zero exercise and I have no pains.

I don't think you should be accepting pain everyday at our age as just a natural part of getting older.

(And yes, I'm planning to eat less sugar and do more exercise)

Westfacing · 30/08/2021 11:55

No, and I'm nearly 67!

I can only assume that your mattress needs changing, as someone so young shouldn't be hurting when getting out of bed; or you have arthritis or some other condition.

QueenHofScotland · 30/08/2021 12:04

Yes occasionally - my posture is terrible and I need to lose weight. When I am lighter I notice a difference.

I don’t sleep well and when I am awake more, I tend to ache more.

I did supper from sore hips / pelvis about 5 years ago and a new mattress made a significant difference

InvincibleInvisibility · 30/08/2021 12:04

Yes and Im 39.

Have seen Dr and physio in the past and conclusion was stress (so tense whilst sleeping) and lack of sleep/being woken multiple times a night (my 10 year old has SN).

Im going ping back to Dr tomorrow though cos its getting extreme.

(As an aside I exercise several hours a week and am a healthy BMI)

MyPatronusIsACat · 30/08/2021 12:07

@HurryUpAndWait23

I said YABU, because although I ache more than I used to and am a bit more stiff after sitting down for a few hours, but there's no way I was like what you describe at 38! Not til I hit 50 actually.

caughtinanet · 30/08/2021 12:10

I'm quite a bit + 38 and no pains when I get up unless for a specific exercise related reason. I don't think it's normal to be like that every day at such a young age is it?

Jasmine11 · 30/08/2021 12:11

I'm 42 and used to get aches and pains, but I completely overhauled my health - I lost weight, took up yoga and take a fair few supplements. The one that made the biggest and quickest difference is iron. I was also diagnosed with Hashimotos and now my thyroid levels are stable, I feel about 10 years younger! I don't think anyone needs to feel how you are OP, you are too young to think any aches and pains are an inevitable part of ageing. Might be worth getting a health MOT. If your GP won't do this (mine did) it wouldn't cost too much privately.

CallMeNutribullet · 30/08/2021 12:15

40 and yes. My bones click and crack when I get up

Sorberret · 30/08/2021 12:16

Late 30s here and I wake up with a really achey back

Sexnotgender · 30/08/2021 12:17

I’m 39 and not really. Only my ankle hurts but that’s a specific injury.

MrsVeryTired · 30/08/2021 12:19

No, not usually, late 40's and quite fit. Being fit and active definitely helps.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 30/08/2021 12:29

@MrsKDB you are quite right, an in-person Yoga teacher should be able to help a hypermobile student do Yoga safely. I should have been clearer, I meant Generic Yoga Off The Internet or from a book is not going to help and could do more damage.
