If you're 38+years does your body hurt when you get out of bed?

My pelvis hurts when I get out of bed or drive for a long time.
There's various reasons for this, and thought it was just me.

However, it turns out DH hurts in the morning. And my friend came round yesterday and he hurts in the morning.

So is this an age thing?!

None of us are overweight although I'm borderline. My friend and I are definitely unfit. DH is really fit but in his 50's.

YANBU - I'm 38+ and things hurt
YABU - what are you on about? Nothing is supposed to hurt!

39 and I did. But we got a new bed with a better mattress. Also went for the King so more room.

However, my feet and ankles were horrendous on a morning still bad but not as much. The stairs were terrifying on a morning. Spoke to the go and he put it down to wfh and lockdowns. The go pointed out that even though I have a desk job and wfh someday before, I would have walked more. From car to office. Up and downstairs lots of times a day.

I still walk the dogs, but often dp will do it as his shifts allow time for it. So now we both do and the yoga does seem to be slowly help.

I have been doing yoga and it really seems to have helped.

BashfulClam · 30/08/2021 19:28

Ever since I hit 30 I’ve had shes and injure myself doing mundane things. Now in my 40’s i have to go downstairs first thing sideways as my ankles are stiff and my knee makes a sickening clicking noise. DH has aches and niggles too. As my Aunt says ‘age doesn’t come alone, it brings its equally horrible pals’

StrawberrySquash · 30/08/2021 19:32

41 and definitely stiff on getting up from an extended period not moving. But can still do stuff like run 5k without too much trouble so it doesn't stop me doing stuff, IYSWIM. I just need time to loosen up.

Apeirogon · 30/08/2021 19:37

I'm 47 and I have some foot pain when I first get out of bed in the morning (I have self diagnosed it as possible mild plantar fasciitis). It doesn't bother me for the rest of the day. Also, I feel stiff if I've been for a long run the day before (that was true in my 20s too though). Otherwise ok.

lljkk · 30/08/2021 19:47

I'm almost 54 ... I would say nothing aches ro is stiff in morning (not enough to notice) but I suppose I have plenty of chronic aches in regular places, that I can provoke if I want. They don't change after I get up, just things I manage.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 30/08/2021 19:47

I'm fifty and no the mornings don't hurt unless I'm suffering a plantar fasciitis flare up or I've dived back into an exercise regime after a break (currently got a nasty case of Jillian Michaels related pain). I don't think it's right at age 38.

rainbowandglitter · 30/08/2021 19:50

I'm late 30s and have never had this. Dp is in his 50s and doesn't have this either. We both do loads of exercise, wonder whether that makes a difference.

liveforsummer · 30/08/2021 19:54

Yes, I'm 41 and hurt a lot in the morning and after any unusual exercise/movement. Been the same for about 5 years I'd say!

namesnamesnamesnames · 30/08/2021 20:37

No, sounds awful. I'm 40.

RoseMartha · 30/08/2021 20:41

Early 50's here, when I get out of bed I feel like I have wooden legs and feet which hurt.
Same on long car journey or if I am stuck in stop go traffic or sit on the floor too long. The last few months my left foot and knee are particularly painful:

2Rebecca · 30/08/2021 20:47

No. My back gets sore if I lie in. I often do some gentle stretches first thing and do a few Yon Yoga stretches on an evening. My BMI is about 24

2Rebecca · 30/08/2021 20:48

Yin yoga!

Mulberry974 · 30/08/2021 21:03

I'm 47 and other than occasional plantar fascitis in one foot when I wake up, nope I don't ache when I get out of bed. And I'm overweight and not that fit....

Titsywoo · 30/08/2021 21:09

No although I think our mattress helps. Its a Tempur and MIL slept on it for a week this month when she was dogsitting here and the pain she has in her hip went away (she is 75).

EmilyEmmabob · 30/08/2021 21:12

39 and yep, I ache in my legs and back most mornings. It's a lot better when I eat healthily and reduce carbs and sugar, on mornings where I've over indulged in junk food the day before I'm in agony.

I'm overweight and I know if I was healthier I wouldn't hurt half as much.

JaceLancs · 30/08/2021 21:23

I’m 57 and occasionally wake up with pain
I’m slightly overweight but do exercise regularly
I have osteoarthritis in my back, knees, hips and shoulders but pain increases with use so during day gets worse
First thing in a morning I’m relaxed - if I’ve slept well on a good mattress im not in pain

JudgeJ · 30/08/2021 21:27

I'm 73 and I don't recall feeling like that in my 40s though now, especially after sitting for too long, I do do my Douglas Bader walk, for you youngsters he was a Battle of Britain pilot with two false legs.

Durbeyfield · 30/08/2021 21:28

I’m quite often achy and stiff and I’m a fit 52.

NotThatSocial · 30/08/2021 21:28

40 and reasonably fit/ active although a little overweight.
I spring out of bed in the mornings and almost never have aches and pains.

DH is slightly older, healthy weight and really sporty. He frequently has a bad back and other pains and needs ages between waking up and actually moving.

JudgeJ · 30/08/2021 21:34

The oddest thing I remember re car journeys is that when I had my little 2 seater in my 50s it was the best thing for long journeys, I used to drive a 350 mile trip and feel fine at the end. My cousin came in it when she was waiting for a hip replacement and she couldn't believe how well she felt, it 's probably because you're in a very reclined position rather than bent at the knees.
EarringsandLipstick · 30/08/2021 21:42

Nope. Never. You shouldn't be hurting in the morning, especially not in your 30s.

Sounds like general fitness & flexibility needs to be improved

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 30/08/2021 21:50

Maybe get vit d checked. I had terrible aches a couple of years ago in my back / shoulders which started in the morning but progressed to being most of the time, then hips etc. Went to see gp as thought had trapped a nerve or something and they thought vit d deficiency straight away. Blood test confirmed my levels were on the floor.

After a few months loading I now take maintenance dose but stopping for just a few weeks starts the aches again

hookiewookie29 · 30/08/2021 21:51

I'm 53 and hurt....
Hips ache...shoulders ache...knees are so stiff...
Once I'm up and moving, I'm not too bad but definitely an age thing!

thriftyhen · 30/08/2021 22:10

Late 50's, slim and active. Nothing hurts in the morning. We have a super comfy mattress and I ping out of bed!

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2021 22:11

It’s not an age thing, I’m fifty two and don’t have it. If you’re stiff and aching when you get up something else is causing it.
