To wonder how often you leave the house?

Would you say once / twice a week is normal?

I've found it's incredibly easy not to go out if you wfh. I do try to go for a walk at lunchtime but sometimes I don't get a break. I don't get up early enough (nor do I want to) to go anywhere before work.
And some days I'm wiped out in the evenings and can't face leaving the house.

Agree with this, I am wfh and sometimes it just doesn't stop until 5.30/6ish and then I just can't be arsed to go out just for the sake of it.

I find that if I get through to 4ish without going out, I don't really feel the urge anymore and can easily stay in the whole time.

Is everyone who barely leaves the house doing exercise at home? It must be really difficult to hit the recommended activity levels if you never walk anywhere.

I WFH full time. I don't see that has anything to do with it.

Do you keep your child in the house all week without leaving the house?

Really? I think wfh can have loads to do with it, if you have a busy job or loads of meetings during the day so you can't take an hour here or there to nip out.

By the time it reaches the end of the day and everybody else is home, I can see why you wouldn't go out of your way to go out just for the sake of it, unless you needed something from a shop or are meeting someone else.

I wondered this too. If I didn’t leave the house it would be a real struggle to get a decent amount of exercise.
WouldBeGood · 25/08/2021 17:05

Seems very odd to me. I’m out lots every day. Nothing exciting but gym, dog walks, shops, runs in the car, visits.

Some people have tread mills, cross trainers, exercise bikes etc.

I do, I love exercising and do it all inside.

I garden hard, do DIY and am currently dealing with the aftermath of a flooded bedroom.....I get my exercise ok :)

Sounds so depressing but each to their own.

This thread is showing why some people enjoyed lockdown!

WFH makes a difference because pre-Covid I had to leave the house to go to work - so I was automatically out. And that meant (for example) I might pop into other places on the way.

My children are teenagers so quite able to take themselves out of the house. If they want lifts, they again involve simply sitting in the car and dropping off.

It is - it's terribly depressing to realise that a day of wfh is so exhausting (my job is harder and hence longer hours and more tiring to do at home than in the office) that you can't be bothered to go out at the end of it.

I am not working at home by choice, and I do, for example, meet friends or go to the shops, just not every day.

Starjammer · 25/08/2021 17:12

A lot more now we have DD. Pre-DD I was quite happy to stay in most of the week! I am an introvert and my hobbies tend to be home-based. Now we have DD, I'm out most days, but some days we just stay at home and in the garden.

Belladonna12 · 25/08/2021 17:14

It's pretty easy to stay at home all day if you have older or no children and work from home. Not everyone can or enjoys going out for a walk.

Mammyloveswine · 25/08/2021 17:17

Every day! Even if we have a day in will usually pop to the shop or for a walk/run!

speakout · 25/08/2021 17:20

It's a choice isn't it. I have adult children - and I work from home.
I could arrange things so I rarely have to go outside, but a couple of trips break up the day.
I love being at home, but going out refreshes me, gives me a different perspective.
On a typical day I will go to an early morning yoga or gym, then a trip to the post office or supermarket and maybe an early evening walk.
I can't remember the last time I spent the whole day at home- probably christmas day!

It's not necessarily a choice not to go to the gym/walk/shop. Not everyone is able bodied and some are still vulnerable to covid.

Not at all.

I can excercise at home due to the equipment we have that includes a very big swimming pool in the back garden.

Circumstances meant that when we built this house it was built around a family members needs that we all benefit from. I also live in a climate where the sun shines everyday and there’s no such thing as not being able to go out because of the rain.

I really enjoy my home but I’m also very happy going out and about.

firstimemamma · 25/08/2021 17:26

I have a 3 year old who needs daily running around so I'm out all morning and normally a good couple of hours of the afternoon, 7 days a week.

SicParvisMagna · 25/08/2021 17:27

Um, unless I have to? Probably once a month Blush

spooney21 · 25/08/2021 17:31

Some days I'm in and out of the house 5/6 times. Others maybe 1/2. I hate not leaving the house, and try to go even for a walk to clear my head.

cliffdonville · 25/08/2021 17:33

Minimum of 3 times a day for me! That's just the dog walking, can be a few more times depending on what's going on

Firenight · 25/08/2021 17:35

Every day at least once. I WFH and not leaving this house at all would wreck my fragile mental health.

fromdownwest · 25/08/2021 17:35

I have a dog which will sway it, however, even before my dog I would say I was out more than in.

Walking, sports, swimming, friends, shops, hobbies, work etc

If I dont leave the house I become very very restless.

I have always been active though, and my parents were the same.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 25/08/2021 17:37

Depends, when i’m working/school is open then 5 days a week every week +/- the weekend. Sometimes im in all weekend, sometimes im out just one day and sometimes both.

So 5-7 days Grin

Blossomtoes · 25/08/2021 17:39

Every day. One of the great positives of dog owning.
