That if I don’t do some of the things my low key OCD dictates then I’ve cursed myself.

Like checking the fridge door is closed properly, I check it at least 5 times before I can go to sleep incase it’s left wide open (🤷🏻‍♀️)and everything turns warm (🤷🏻‍♀️)

Or that the iron is switched off even though I didn’t even use it or even plug it in (🤷🏻‍♀️)

MrsToothyBitch · 24/08/2021 00:23

That life is a see-saw and we all swing about trying to get even. The universe finds a way to balance it out.

I'm another one who has seen the universe occasionally punish those who wrong me or annoy me. E.g.- pissed off at someone cancelling a party to smugly announce a last minute jaunt to Paris, 30 min later, Notre Dame was ablaze! Blush

The medieval concept of blind fortune with her wheel helps me make sense of it all sometimes. Keeps me sane. I'm sure she's up there somewhere.

Oh- and cats choose people. They see us.

tensmum1964 · 24/08/2021 00:25

That seeing one Magpie brings you bad luck unless you salute and say, "Hello Mr Magpie, I hope your family are safe and well" 🤣

WomanStanleyWoman · 24/08/2021 00:25

I sometimes catch myself thinking about how I’ll do something differently ‘next time around’ - as in when my life resets and starts again. It’s bizarre, as I know perfectly well that we only live once, but somewhere deep down, a tiny part of me hasn’t accepted it and thinks I’ll get to do this all again.

@IsThisAkissingBook

I actually think I may have powers. BlushConfused Anytime someone has done me wrong like quite badly I've wished bad on them and it's happened. Pretty serious things too yes it may be a coincidence but these things relate to either what they did to me. Or what I've wished on them. I wouldn't dare mention this in rl but I just needed to say it.
Please teach me 🤣
MrsToothyBitch · 24/08/2021 00:28

@TSSDNCOP

Just as I have a feeling of "life is good" it totally goes to shit within 24 hours.
Yes. This. I don't relax. If I stop fretting, the universe whips that rug out from under me and gives me something bigger & nastier to fret about as a consequence. So I don't.

I also have OCD. While I KNOW that if I dont do what my compulsion dictates nothing bad will happen, there is no way in Hell I'm going to test it to find out. The hardest part is trying to explain to others. When they ask what do you think will happen if you dont do it. All I can say is I dont know, something bad. Its awful :(
PartyofPun · 24/08/2021 00:31

@Sattherelikealemon

Often when I think a mean or angry thought about someone I accidentally hurt myself. Not badly but say stubbed toe or funnybone level so quite sharp and not nice. It's happened countless times
Yeah. This!

I don’t believe in karma or the universe bringing you things, but I think your thoughts are really important and have a massive impact on your day

Mammyloveswine · 24/08/2021 00:31

@DismantledKing

If I lose something and can’t find it for ages, I ask the little people politely to return it. Yes it sounds mad.
I always pray to st Anthony! He's never let me down!

How do you calculate your fee's?

Is it a set amount, per revenge?

Or do you have like a bronze, silver and gold package?

Also I would love examples.

That is a little off the wall, everyone knows you must doff your imaginary titfer at each magpie present and say “ Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening m’laud “
YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 24/08/2021 00:35

I use to think that I some how caused fires (not actually setting them though). Hear me out. I moved around a lot in my early adult life. 5 of the places I moved from (in a row), not long after I moved the building next door to my old place had a fire. I know its such a strange coincidence but this really happened. After the 5th one though nothing happened at the 6th or 7th place. I now own my house (my 8th place). To this day I still wonder how that could even happen coincidentally.

ZednotZee · 24/08/2021 00:37

I believe that the government has my best interests at heart.

Those of my children too.

OliverBabish · 24/08/2021 00:40

Can’t explain this one succinctly but this happens to me a lot, enough to make me change my behaviour:

Say I’m getting ready to go out. I see something random in the house, like a 20p, just lying around. My brain will go “you should probably pick that up, you’ll need it” and so many times I haven’t and then I’ve been 20p short for parking. Stuff like that!

So I, er, do what my brain tells me to do now Grin because clearly my subconscious knows better

tensmum1964 · 24/08/2021 00:41

Haha, it must be a regional thing.

scoobydoo1971 · 24/08/2021 00:42

There are probably different forms of reality and existence that cannot be observed nor detected within the narrow confines of our senses, and vision in particular.

OliverBabish · 24/08/2021 00:42

(The insane belief being that life punishes me in small ways by not listening to myself. I know - I know Grin)

Ponoka7 · 24/08/2021 00:42

In a former house that we lived in there were a few ghost/spirit cats. Both me and my DD saw them. At times they would be black moving shadows, but sometimes paws/tails would be apparent. Sometimes we would just hear them. They'd follow and sit with us. On a few occasions my DD had unexplained scratches on her arm, she hadn't done them herself. My dog and cats, that we had over the years, used to react and retreat from them.

tensmum1964 · 24/08/2021 00:42

Sorry, that comment was for Kernowfornia.

OliverBabish · 24/08/2021 00:42

*For NOT listening to myself. Time for bed!!

Thursa · 24/08/2021 00:42

When I was a child I got it into my mind that whatever direction my nose was pointing was north. To this day part of me thinks whatever way I’m facing is north…Blush

Keladrythesaviour · 24/08/2021 00:46

@Kernowfornia @tensmum1964 I was brought up to doff an imaginary cap and say "good morning Mr magpie, how's your lady wife today?"
I always do it, or tap two fingers to my forehead like a little salute if I'm in company and dont want to embarrass myself Grin

I beleive, but also don't believe, that I've been here before. I feel so weirdly emotionally connected to random historical things. I'm pretty sure I've been a Victorian factory worker, and a soldier in the trenches, before I was here.
But I'm also super rational and totally don't believe in spirits or higher powers or reincarnation etc so I never admit that to anyone!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 24/08/2021 00:47

Our magpie script (via xdp’s gran) is “Good morning, Mr Magpie, what a fine fellow you are” accompanied by a salute (which I try to do subtly so as not to look overly bonkers)

Milkbottlelegs · 24/08/2021 00:48

@FancySomeChips

I sense when someone is very newly pregnant. I don’t know what it is, but it happens, all the time. Too often, it’s quite bizarre! When they aren’t showing or have literally just found out. Twice over the last few years I have had a “funny feeling” leading me to call a friend on the other side of the country and she has literally just wee’d on a stick and found out herself.
I get this too. I’ve also had a strong sense someone is pregnant before they’ve even known on more than one occasion.
LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 24/08/2021 00:49

@Keladrythesaviour crossed posts — glad I’m not the only one going around the place discreetly saluting birds Grin
