Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws

@LadyAddle oh my goodness!!! Did I say land yard??? 😂😂 it's supposed to be lanyard 🙈🙈

CorianderBee · 23/08/2021 23:16

@PinkyAndALurkyPerky

A mascara, just one from the supermarket, but no, everyday I pump the old one to get every last frigging drop from it
Put a drop of oil in it. It'll come back to life 😂
SocksAndTheCity · 23/08/2021 23:16

A new metal fish slice after the handle fell off mine ten years or so ago.

I've continued to use the remaining bit and it's actually much better for lifting fried eggs and portioning lasagne and suchlike, but it gets far too bloody hot. I think Wilko sell them for about two quid Grin

Dueatchristmas · 23/08/2021 23:17

I hate buying socks and underwear. I think it’s a combination of spending money on things no one really sees and also once you get into a stage of your bra/knickers being so comfy, new ones just never feel the same. So I end up going back to wearing the old stuff anyway.

Same with hair bobbles, I have one or two favourites, then inevitably they snap, and I just go without for ages until I can be bothered to buy more. I usually find a stray one around the house somewhere. Same goes for Kirby grips.

On a positive note, I have recently bought a new sieve after months of using a broken one.

LemonadeSunshine · 23/08/2021 23:18

A new kettle. Had the current hideous green affair as a wedding present 25 YEARS AGO! The bloody thing won't die, used multiple times daily, cracked bits on the base but still going strong. Grr can't bring myself to ditch it until it stops working, feels like flushing a live but ailing goldfish down the loo. Must work on the guilt.

Weirdly I have this exact same scenario. I think perhaps it's hard to find a jug that is clear to read and doesn't wash off?? I think that's my reason for not buying a new one, I don't believe it will solve my issue long term Grin

This thread inspired me to order staples. £3.95 for staple happiness.

Thighdentitycrisis · 23/08/2021 23:18

Lemon squeezer

I broke the glass one that was from a charity shop, about 3 years ago. Since then I’ve been using one of those wooden reamers, that was at the back of the drawer, just as a stop gap. The juice squirts everywhere but into the jug and all the pips go in too - utterly useless but I persevere. I use it everyday as well!

Jackthementalkitten · 23/08/2021 23:19

A peg bag. I’ve currently got them hanging up in a black poo bag ( clean, obviously) why I don’t just go and get a peg bag Blush

Staffy1 · 23/08/2021 23:20

A laundry container and a dish rack thingy to stack washed dishes in. I’ve been meaning to get both for over a year as the current ones are falling apart, but haven’t found ones to my liking on the few occasions I’ve looked.

JudgeJ · 23/08/2021 23:21

@Maverick66

Towels. I really struggle to replace my towels and when I do buy new ones I might keep them 2 years before using them .it's obviously something from my childhood because my sister is obsessed with buying towels and always having 'good' towels.
Me too, I wouldn't say the towels are old but most of the decent ones were Made in England, dating back to the days when we used to go the the Vantona factory shop, they made them for lots of companies and posh shops.
BSideBaby · 23/08/2021 23:24

A new kohl pencil, would cost about a fiver, but am still using the last 2cm of the one I have and sharpening it with a Stanley knife.

Exactly this. And a pair of gardening gloves with holes in.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 23/08/2021 23:24

A replacement for the little plastic loop that goes on the strap of my fitness tracker to hold the end in place. They do exist and cost about a quid, but I can't be bothered to spend the time required to make sure I'm buying exactly the right one, and have been using a series of brightly-coloured rubber bands for the last few months instead.

CorianderBee · 23/08/2021 23:27

@mantlepiece

A timer for my dippy eggs! Mine broke a year ago, have suffered surprise eggs since. Have just ordered one three quid.
Use your phone timer?
jumpbounce · 23/08/2021 23:28

Another one for measuring jug here Grin
Everytime I decide to do something that requires a measuring jug I regret the decision not to purchase a new one, this happens multiple times per week Blush

NameChangeforMoneyThings · 23/08/2021 23:28

@DrunkBetch

Hair bobbles! Over time they've broken or gotten lost and now every morning it's a mission to find yesterday's bobble for my DD hair! I honestly couldn't tell you why I haven't bought more yet! 🤦🏻‍♀️
I bought a pack of 70 about 5 years ago after I always spent my life searching for them and it was such a worthwhile giant (numbers not cost!) purchase.

I also try and do this for anything else I have a tendency to put off: dinner candles, light bulbs to name but two. Then I only have to get over the inertia once!!

Agapornis · 23/08/2021 23:28

@piefacedClique

A battery to stop my smoke alarm beeping!
Are you my neighbour?! If it's been about two months, I'm fed up AngryGrin
JudgeJ · 23/08/2021 23:28

@Blossomtoes

Me too, can never ever buy an emery board!

You need one of these. Game changer.

]]

For some bizarre reason I always buy emery boards at airports, not bought any for a while of course!
FangsForTheMemory · 23/08/2021 23:30

I got a glass dry measure/measuring jug in Tiger for almost nothing the other week.

nancy75 · 23/08/2021 23:31

Lockdown cured me of this for a while, we’ve got weird windows with a lot of roller blinds. The plastic bobbly strung bits on loads of the blinds were broken - over lockdown I found & ordered a whole box of little clip things that fixes them. It cost 2 whole pounds to fix the lot. Some of them had been broken for 6 YEARS!

I’ve got an electric hand whisk that has whisk bits that come out, one of the 2 whisk bits has been lost for years but I still use it, even though I could get a new one for about a tenner.

DroopyClematis · 23/08/2021 23:32

@ShuddaBeenMe

Surely land yard isn't lanyard. Who needs a lanyard?

I'm trying to think what the poster meant.

Me too!
piefacedClique · 23/08/2021 23:32

Ha @Agapornis…. Detached and rural so not disturbing anyone but us 😂. I can’t hear it any more! It’s only when someone pops over and mentions it I notice it!

nancy75 · 23/08/2021 23:32

I’ve got 2 ceiling lights in the bedroom, bulb 1 went months ago, bulb 2 went weeks ago. Thank goodness I’ve got a lamp that still works

AvantGardening · 23/08/2021 23:34

A tiny spatula for jars. Instead I just use every other utensil in the kitchen.

A set of bathroom scales.

A foot measuring thing for the toddler

Jackthementalkitten · 23/08/2021 23:36

I just got myself a peg bag- £2.50 on eBay. Why it took me this long Blush
