To buy the same item as a close friend?

Firstly I apologise that this is the epitome of a first world problem. I acknowledge I am fortunate to have this problem and that there are many bigger things to worry about.

I have decided to make a high-end purchase from a well-known brand. I've never done this before but am at the stage in my life where I would like to do so.

I spend a long while researching, chose what I wanted and planned to head to the shops in a few days.

Was just chatting to a close friend and it turns out she has the exact same item and is annoyed that I'd buy the same and said she'd rather I didn't. I wasn't aware of this before.

I struggle to understand this mentality as it's not something that would concern me at all the other way around.

Her argument is that she didn't spend all that money, just to have someone close to her have the exact same item.

AIBU to buy it anyway? I was so pleased with the idea of having it and was excited to buy it.

The leather one is infinitely nicer.

She needs to grow TF up.

never knew there was a leather one. it's beautiful. I would actually get that one. and think it might piss your friend off even more 😉

Googled neverfull, disappointing those bags are everywhere! Plain colour is nice but I'd just buy another (nicer) bag and save a fall out, you'll have bag guilt every time you see her!

I wouldn't want to have the same bag as a close friend as I like to be different.. Perhaps go for something more original? Or you could just do what you want and buy it 😂

I have a few friends with this useful utility bag. It doesn't have the wow factor so no idea why your friend is making a fuss

YABU - but only because those bags seem like a huge amount of money for what just looks like the cheap fakes you can get for €20 or so in any Spanish resort.

Buy the bag! If these last few years have taught me anything it’s that’s life’s too flipping short. It’s your money to spend and invest in something you’ve researched it and want it, why shouldn’t you flipping have it.

Your friend needs to get over herself. My friend and I have turned up to meet each other on more than one occasion in the same top (admittedly not designer!!). We just compliment each other on our obviously great taste 😆

I'm going to do you a favour here- don't buy that bag. Get on to the style and beauty board and buy yourself something better.

Buy a Mulberry or a fab leather Orla Kiely or something few others have. LV are so common and kind of obvious and so frequently faked. Opt for something really special and unique instead !

Wonder how many thousands of that bag were made? Your friend is being a little...absurd. Get the bag. She will either get over it, or prove unworthy of your attention.

I actually saw someone carrying an LV neverfull bag today after only reading about them on this thread yesterday so I knew what it was and looked like, after thinking well no one round here has one.

Does you friend realise that the manufacturers made more than one....? And many many people bought them before her, many many will after !!

Buy two the same and carry them at the same time, especially at the same event as your 'close friend'. If she (weirdly) complains, just say that you heeded her advice and bought two instead of one - to be different.

A friend shouldnt tell you what you can and cannot buy , maybe she's jealous and not actually got one at all and just doesn't want you to have one, I would go ahead and buy it just don't use when you with her tho some people suggesting buy a different style is also a good idea as not to upset friend! but as you have spent time researching this product its your money buy it!

Personally I wouldn’t want it once I’d found out a close friend already has it, it would take the shine off it for me. Plus if she’s stated she would be upset if you also got it then that would be enough for me to be disappointed but move on and find an alternative. Clearly it wasn’t that particular one/design you desperately coveted as you had done “research“ etc. Into it indicating that you hadn’t been yearning for it, whereas maybe she had. I’m sure you can find another more unique one to fall in love with and enjoy more knowing that you’d be the only one to have it and you wouldn’t be upsetting a friend.

I completely agree and the concept of these big mega brands that your spend your thousands on are getting something artisan . It’s cookie cutter production. I think Hermes is the only one that has kept the same production processes . Your not getting what your paying for be smart and choose something where you can see and feel the craftsmanship or vintage or a smaller brand with exceptional quality . Most of it is myth making by marketing as Hugoslavia says :-)

Exactly It’s alien to me My close friends mean so much to me. And me to them.
