I’ve just re-watched A Star is Born and sobbed like there’s no tomorrow. Made me think about other films that have hit me hard.
Green Mile is another real sob fest.

Any others? I’d like to build a ‘I need a good cry’ collection Grin

Arrival... I watched it alone on a plane when I was pregnant with dc1 and I could barely contain my sobs... still make me weep even now

Also, agree...about time...

Adding Netflix series Kalifat. Oh my, I was genuinely down and teary for 48 hours afterwards. Brilliant but heart wrenching

pangolina · 21/08/2021 20:08

Haachi. I couldn't even discuss it for a week afterwards.
Beaches
Call Me By Your Name
Blue Is The Warmest Colour
Still Alice

whynotwhatknot · 21/08/2021 20:08

@Roussette

Some mentioned on here.... but I don't think this has been mentioned.

Ghost.

(OK OK it's pathetic, I can't help it!)

i used to sob at the end and now cant watch it because of patrick actually being dead
Butteredtoast55 · 21/08/2021 20:10

Oh so many things but like others have said, About Time gets me every single time. Even knowing it's coming I sob at the beach scene and LONG to have that kind of chance again with my beloved DPs.
Also, Tom Hanks in Philadelphia. I went to see it at the cinema with DH and literally didn't stop crying until after we were home.
But the worst ever was Les Miserables on stage. I was completely beside myself for hours. The following day I rang my friend who I'd seen it with and cried again for over an hour about Fantine and Cosette until she firmly told me it wasn't real and to get a grip Grin.

Alwaystrappedunderababy · 21/08/2021 20:10

Gone baby gone makes me cry so much at the end, the first time I watched it I cried so much I had to take a walk outside to calm myself down!

whynotwhatknot · 21/08/2021 20:10

Marley and me
A Dog's Purpose - 'Bailey Bailey Bailey' - I got a sobbing induced migraine from that one!
The Impossible

augustusglupe · 21/08/2021 20:11

Terms of Endearment
Steel Magnolias
Titanic
Gran Torino
Casper (took DD when she was little and her friend. Me and DD were crying our eyes out by the end, but the friend was completely unmoved) I haven't watched it in over 20 years I find it so upsetting. Ditto...
Schindlers List
The Elephant man.
Mask
Agree too with Lion and the Green mile.

I haven't seen the Notebook but I know it's the film DD says always has her in floods.

poullou · 21/08/2021 20:13

Marley and Me - and I'm not even a dog person. I've watched it once; I would never ever watch it again.

queenrollo · 21/08/2021 20:14

My Dog Skip.

I also sobbed at Truly, Madly Deeply (and fell in love with Alan Rickman all the way back then)

@Funnylittlefloozie I sat with my youngest one day looking for something to watch and Lava seemed a safe bet with it being Pixar - my DS was most bemused by me crying my eyes out at it. That was years ago now and I still cannot watch it without getting tearful.
I have learned to play the song on the ukulele though.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/08/2021 20:16

@WorraLiberty

I've seen a few films that have brought tears to my eyes.

But I honestly can't imagine actually sobbing or bawling.

Serious question to those who say they react that way. Do you actually 'sob' and 'bawl' or just shed a few tears?

I sometimes really sob, usually if I'm pre-menstrual or first few days of my period and the sobbing won't be about the film itself, it will be a release of stress or sobbing about things in my own life. When I'm hormonal like that, even funny things can lead to sobbing.

augustusglupe · 21/08/2021 20:17

Oh god yes, Forrest Gump. I always start when Jenny dies and then at the end when little Forrest gets on the bus and the feather floats down.

TruffleShuffles · 21/08/2021 20:18

Think most of mine have been said but I’m surprised I haven’t seen Billy Elliot mentioned yet. I’ve seen it so many times but it always makes me cry.

Soul is another one too, another brilliant Pixar film that makes you cry with joy and sadness although it’s not quite the bawling tears that Up produces during that opening sequence.

Also yes to the person who said never let me go, a brutal and beautiful film.

Nothappyland · 21/08/2021 20:20

The Fault in Our Stars (proper sobbing throughout)
Five Feet Apart (occasional sobs)
Titanic (sobbing only at the ending obviously)
The Eurovision film with Will Ferrell 😂 (the bit when she sings the Iceland song)

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/08/2021 20:23

The Fault in Our Stars

PS I love you

JumpingFrogs · 21/08/2021 20:24

Lost in Translation, especially the farewell scene between the Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanssen characters at the end

Brokeback Mountain - pretty much all of it

I, Daniel Blake - the food bank scene

Apart from those 3 I am hard hearted and do not cry at films

felulageller · 21/08/2021 20:26

Stand by me

MrsWhites · 21/08/2021 20:26

Lots of the ones already mentioned, especially the good dinosaur but these ones too:

The pursuit of happiness (full on ugly cried when the boy drops his toy running for the bus)

An American tail (my mum said she almost had to take me out of the cinema when I was little because it was so embarrassing how much I cried - still can’t watch it without crying)
