to ask what £300k would buy where you live?

And do you like living there? If not, where would you rather be?

WIBU to consider moving there with my DC?

(This is part idle speculation, part deadly serious as going through separation and I've never liked the the town we currently live in. It doesn't have much to offer older DC, plus the secondaries aren't great here. Wondering where we might all have a better life... )

Studio in a 30-year-old development, or a (quite nice on the inside) 2-bedroom in a 1970's council tower block.

CharlieBrown65 · 17/08/2021 16:31

We are in North West and just bought a 5 bed semi with loft conversion for £325,000. Close to good schools, public transport and nice restaurants. £300k would easily buy 4 bed semi.

xyzandabc · 17/08/2021 16:32

2 bed terrace here. Oxfordshire with good schools

FangsForTheMemory · 17/08/2021 16:33

A nicely decorated three bedroomed semi with a garden.

Ozanj · 17/08/2021 16:34

Where I am nothing. House prices start at 350k herr

SE

On Rightmove 0 properties 'in this area'
3 miles 8 flats
5 miles 10 flats

Don't move here if you're starting anew. I'm
Only staying because of family/friends, else I'd definitely move to get more house for my money.

TheWholeWorld · 17/08/2021 16:34

I'd say this is the median property type available for 300k within Birmingham - a 3 bed semi.

Comefromaway · 17/08/2021 16:35

I bought my house last year for £325k. It’s a 5 bed detached in a lovely, quiet street.

£300k would get something like this. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/111010424#/?channel=RES_BUY

TorySteller · 17/08/2021 16:35

Our house is probably worth around £300k. Four bed detached, large driveway and garden, in a fairly decent area. We’re in Warrington.

In south Warrington our house would cost £500k+.

Essentialironingwater · 17/08/2021 16:36

We live in Northern Ireland but are from South bucks.

Where we are from it'd buy a flat or maybe a poky ex council terrace.

Where we are probably a 5 bed with detached garage, or an older smaller cottage with land. My in laws live further out and got a 6 bed high spec house on an acre of garden for 325ish after selling their 4 bed house in bucks for 7 figures!

I wouldn’t move - good secondary schools and near a city but a short drive from some great beaches.

Not much for sale at moment near to me.

Teenangels · 17/08/2021 16:37

Nothing at all.... in that price bracket.

40somethingJBJ · 17/08/2021 16:37

I’m in Derbyshire. A search within a 3 mile radius pulls up a 5 bed detached with gardens and off road parking in a pretty decent area.

Besswess88 · 17/08/2021 16:37

Dorset, (the big seaside bit) 1/2 bed flat in posh part or 2 bed semi in not so posh bit.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 17/08/2021 16:37

A small 2 bedroomed ex-council flat, at a push. It would be in an unattractive building, with little/no outside space, and would need a new kitchen and bathroom, but would be in a pleasant village with a decent school.

4 bed semi-detached with generous garden.

Norfolk, safe, low crime, beautiful countryside, stunning beaches, the Norfolk broads, so much for kids to do. 1hr50 to London on the train.

Singinghollybob · 17/08/2021 16:39

We live in the North West in a suburb close to a city and ours has just been valued at £300,000. It's a 4 bedroom mid terrace with no off street parking and a yard.
I love where we live, there's lots going on but I'm amazed at how the prices are here, compared to other suburbs in the same city

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/08/2021 16:39

I am in shock -

I am in a town in southeast and you have a choice between a one bed and 2 bed flat, I know we are in a sought after area but having just looked at prices in NE with DS I am Shock at how big the gap is!

gogohm · 17/08/2021 16:39

Here you could get a 3 bed terrace possibly a semi near the beach, 20 mins from Bristol.

ChorltonWheelie · 17/08/2021 16:40

This sort of thing
www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/109119878

TheSoapyFrog · 17/08/2021 16:40

You could get a one bedroom retirement apartment for that here. I do like living here. It's semi rural, but close enough to the town and also the coast and London. It is expensive and it's very quiet. There's hardly any crime.
But my next door neighbours are dickheads.

Deedoubleyou · 17/08/2021 16:40

In my area a nice 2 bed flat, 10mins drive out a 3 bed house. We're in the west end of Glasgow.

PickleAF · 17/08/2021 16:41

@Bigpinkslippers

3 possibly 4 bed detached, definitely a large 3 bed semi in nice village in lancashire PR4 area. 3/4 close secondary schools which are all good.
Ditto! Also PR4. Potentially a detached newbuild within that price - but anything detached / larger is 300k plus. For reference we're 4 bed detached, 3 bathrooms + downstairs loo - house the same size as ours just went for 385k. It's crazy at the minute!
