AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

This is like a new version of the old trick of ordering a cushion for pennies from eBay - only for it to be a doll's house cushion when it turns up.

What's next? (Gnome sized) dining table for 8? Space for a dance party (of mice). Room for a pony (of money, so £25 to you and me).

NiceTwin · 17/08/2021 15:58

I'd be going home and pressing for a full refund.

LimberlostLark · 17/08/2021 15:59

p.s. 'the manager can't come to the phone right now, he's covering the donut shop' is now my favourite excuse ever!

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/08/2021 16:00

Time to get the TV crew @MangoBiscuit
Don't let the DM pick this up without paying you.

Blueberrycreampie · 17/08/2021 16:01

In no way is this acceptable, don't accept it. They are talking a load of nonsense, and trying to make out you are in the wrong! Just ask for a full refund.

Hiding in the donut shop more like. 🤣

That solution is Faulty Towers level shocking! Que the fuck?

Peanutsandchilli · 17/08/2021 16:18

You're in a typical British holiday park. A king sized bed in a static caravan is 190cm long. That's what you've got. However you try to dress it up, you can't get them for false advertising. They're within their rights not to compensate you and you've been offered a solution.

I agree it's stupid to describe a bed as a king when it's not standard, but I don't think you have any recourse, unfortunately.

What is the source of this data?
MangoBiscuit · 17/08/2021 16:27

The Daily Mail had better not try to use this, they're shit!

We've tried laying on the extended "bed" and I we're willing to try it for tonight, but I have told them that while we're willing to try it, I'm not happy about it, and it in no way replaces the kingsize that we booked and paid for. So even if we do stay, which we do want to, I will still be firmly requesting a significant discount.

@Peanutsandchilli How are prospective punters supposed to know that? A 'kingsize' in the UK is a recognised size.
Why would anyone expect it to be otherwise?
If different in a certain type of environment, the size should be stated.

Reeks of mis-selling.

Waspsarearseholes · 17/08/2021 16:29

Oh that's bad 😲 Laughable, to us, not you who has paid no doubt a small fortune to stay in this 'lodge' for what is possibly the only holiday you've had for 18 months!
I think I'd be asking for a full refund and going home or seeing if there are any nice hotels en route that have availability. If you wanted a shot night's sleep you could've spent far less and home camping.

MangoBiscuit · 17/08/2021 16:31

@Peanutsandchilli I didn't book a caravan, static or otherwise, I booked a luxury lodge, and paid accordingly. Now we're here, I can see that it IS a static caravan, which in itself I don't mind. But my booking was for a kingsized bed (that was specified). It could have been in a brick building or a log hut, it doesn't make a difference.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/08/2021 16:35

That would piss me off as well, a lodge is a lodge not a static caravan ffs!

ScribblingPixie · 17/08/2021 16:41

Can you put the mattress on the floor? That always works better for me when a bed's too small because you can overhang.

HaveringWavering · 17/08/2021 16:46

OP I think that Trip adviser is the way forward - be very polite and give credit where it is due but make the headline and first para a clear warning to any prospective guests that "kingsize" in the description does NOT mean the widely- recognised UK dimensions used by bed retailers, but 190cm long and [ ] wide.

Roselilly36 · 17/08/2021 16:46

Misrepresentation, surely. You would not have booked the break otherwise. You can’t be the only guest to have noticed/complained.

Knittedfairies · 17/08/2021 16:46

That's weasel-ly of them; calling a static caravan a lodge, then telling you that you have a caravan-sized king sized bed! They can't have it both ways.

rookiemere · 17/08/2021 16:48

It's good - albeit comical - that they've given you this workaround. It somewhat makes the point that you've been shortchanged in the bed department. If they were sure they were right they wouldn't have done anything.

diddl · 17/08/2021 16:49

Would a static van ever be big enough for a King Size?

Boredmotherofone · 17/08/2021 16:50

@ancientgran

I feel your pain. I've complained to Premier Inn, we often stay in Premier Inn and more and more of their rooms seem to be a standard double and if you need an accessible room, DH ,you can't even choose twin beds so I lie clutching the edge of the bed with 6ft plus DH who isn't exactly skinny and is disabled and a restless sleeper. I often cling on as I nearly get pushed off the bed. I think it is a form of disability discrimination as we don't get the same choice as everyone else.

You also can't book an accessible room that is suitable for a family, we have been away with GC and had to book a family room for me and he has the accessible room to himself but of course I'm not there to assist him.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, you should complain. A bad nights sleep is always bad and it can ruin a holiday.

All of the sofas in premier inn turn into beds? I know it's not great but better than clinging on for dear life???

Ps, with Travelodge you can choose twin or double/king

Frazzled2207 · 17/08/2021 16:51

well I definitely didn't realise that 'caravan king size' was a separate size and even it was give that you're in a 'lodge' you would expect the description to be explicit about it being a 'caravan king size' if thats indeed what it is.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 16:52

I’ve stayed in a lodge that had a king size. It was a proper king size. Not a caravan version….

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 16:55

I think you can get them for false advertising. They should have advertised it as a Caravan King size. Otherwise, quite rightly you would assume it was a normal king size. They have omitted the key word.

Trade Descriptions Act l reckon.

gogohm · 17/08/2021 16:56

I'm now worried - I have booked a "luxury lodge" with a king size bed. Dp is 6ft2 and not skinny and neither am I. I find out in 2 weeks I guess.Smile
