AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

That's ridiculous! Nobody could sleep on that arrangement.

Floralnomad · 17/08/2021 15:16

That is not a satisfactory resolution at all .

TheOrigRights · 17/08/2021 15:17

Grin so I can tell my DS he DOES have a king sized bed...it's a 'single room King'

And my sister puts me up on her 'lounge King' aka the sofa.

Bells3032 · 17/08/2021 15:22

A quick good shoes that a caravan king is 6'3"x5". what size is the bed? Honestly i'd be asking for my money back and going home. you were sold the room on false advertising

Fiddliestofsticks · 17/08/2021 15:22

They're talking bullshit. A king size bed is a kind size bed. Sizes are standardised to prevent this sort of confusion.

They advertised a king size bed. They did not advertise their made up "caravan king size" (which is just a normal double) so they need to give a partial refund.

CallmeHendricks · 17/08/2021 15:22

Refund, refund, refund!

I feel your pain. We always look for super king to ensure we have a reasonable sleep and enough room for my husbands flailing arms! Last time we booked into hotel anticipating superking and having paid for it we got a double. The only room they could move us to was a family room which was a double with bunk beds shoehorned in what looked like a cupboard. I was about to say no when my husband piped up he loves bunkies. So I had a lovely lovely sleep in my double myself with my husband happily ensconced in his cupboard with bunkies! 🤣

Will the dining chairs help any? x

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/08/2021 15:24

I’ve just googled ‘what size is a caravan double bed’. Lots of results come up and links to info stating mattresses come in non standard sizes and there is no accepted size of caravan bed.

This is false advertising. Saying this is a caravan size is totally unacceptable as there are no standard size caravan beds. There is a link to an eBay mattress for a boat, which is standard size and another for a king width but double length base.

I seriously doubt that you're going to give this company/holiday lodge accommodation any sort of return business so they either move someone out of a room that has a bed that fits their description to your room/lodge or you'll complain to anyone and everyone about how you paid for one thing (Lodge accommodation) and you got something else (caravan accommodation masking as lodge accommodation).

You can do this discretely with the manager or you can do it in front of the cameras that happen to be there.

That's what I would do.

Janaih · 17/08/2021 15:27

Very shoddy.

knittingaddict · 17/08/2021 15:29

I have a touring caravan. Our bed is wider than a standard double, but it just called a double. There is no such thing as standard sizes, as far as I can see. They vary massively to fit the space, but it would be disingenuous to call any of them king size. They don't really have that designation. I would be so angry with them.

OP, is the lodge a static caravan with a fancy shell? We stayed in a lovely holiday home once, but underneath it was basically a static caravan. Perhaps that's what they mean.

MinnieGirl · 17/08/2021 15:31

I would make it quite clear that they are in breech of contract, as they have sold you something you have not received.
I would also say that as they cannot provide you with what you have paid for you want a full refund as you are leaving.
And leave very specific feedback and contact head office to tell them that they have ruined your break.
I would not accept a put together bed like that and be paying for it

Jumpingintosummer · 17/08/2021 15:34

A poor offering. I would be expecting a substantial refund.

viques · 17/08/2021 15:35

Hells bells OP. They brought you that fire hazard but didn’t bring baskets of fresh free doughnuts as well? Bastards.

Fiddliestofsticks · 17/08/2021 15:36

There really is no such thing as a caravan king.
Caravan beds are never standard. They just fit the space, but if you book a caravan with a double room then it will be big enough for 2 people (just not comfortably!).

But if they say "king size bed" then it needs to be a standard king size bed. If they're using descriptors with widely accepted meanings and measurements than it need to conform to that expectation. It needs to be king size.

ElephantOfRisk · 17/08/2021 15:37

Another tall family, no footboards is an absolute must, doubles are okay as long as they are only for one person. I booked a family room at a pub with rooms type place. Very rural and only place I could get booked. DC were 10 and 11 and we were offered the room which had a double bed and set of bunk beds which wasn't ideal but needs must and all that. Anyway, checked in and the bunks were short ones to fit into an alcove space in the room and were shorter than DC, they had to scrunch up to get in and DH and i weren't much better off in the double to be honest. Also had a toilet that sounded like it was loudly munching an alligator every time you flushed. We decided not to flush during the night but apparently the munch kicks in if you add too much wee... very enjoyable break!

Justmuddlingalong · 17/08/2021 15:38

If you've still got 3 nights to go, I'd post a review with photos right now. The misselling is bad, the attitude of the manager is worse and the resolution is laughable.

heldinadream · 17/08/2021 15:40

Is the manager Basil Fawlty? That is really seriously a Fawlty Towers level of service!
Caravan king size my arse!
Might as well tell you you've got a doll's house sized king size - it would make as much sense.

Zhampagne · 17/08/2021 15:47

Full refund and go home. That ‘solution’ is absolutely laughable.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/08/2021 15:47

Wtf?!Shock

fruitbrewhaha · 17/08/2021 15:49

That's bullshit.

What happens when you trip over all that mock up bed, or kick over the chairs in the night? Fuck that, I'd expect a full refund and leave.

fruitbrewhaha · 17/08/2021 15:51

Or they can order in a new bed for tomorrow, they should be able to get next day delivery.

diddl · 17/08/2021 15:54

"They've been over to measure up, and I've been duly informed that this is the correct size for a caravan king size."

Of course they have!

Where when you booked does it specify "caravan" king size?
