AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

so you can push for a discount because they didn't give you a proper king size, or because they apparantly gave you a caravan when it said it was a luxury lodge.

GrandmaSteglitszch · 17/08/2021 17:02

gogohm maybe you better phone to check.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/08/2021 17:02

@gogohm Could you phone up and check?

SausageRollFan · 17/08/2021 17:03

Luxury lodges in caravan parks are usually just essentially giant caravans ime!

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/08/2021 17:09

This reminds me of a 'lodge' we stayed in , in France. Was so looking forward to it and was £££, but grim when we got there. 3&6 yr old in bunks they could barely turn over in, reeked of damp, and tiny shower with black mould (which we never used). Never used that company again!
We now have a huge trailer and camp in our own tent with raised cots and over-sized bed mats. Is a faff, but we know what we're getting.
I would never trust in 'lodges' again.

Zhampagne · 17/08/2021 17:10

I have no idea what the correct definition is but what holiday parks describe as a ‘lodge’ or a ‘chalet’ always looks like a static caravan to my uneducated eye.

HaveringWavering · 17/08/2021 17:13

@gogohm

I'm now worried - I have booked a "luxury lodge" with a king size bed. Dp is 6ft2 and not skinny and neither am I. I find out in 2 weeks I guess.Smile
Just call them and ask. That way you get a better workaround than OP if it's not, as they have more time to prepare.
PercyPiginaWig · 17/08/2021 17:18

Well they could buy you a king size mattress.
That is ridiculous having chairs at the end of the bed.

If it is a caravan king size it should not be narrower, according to this website anyway.

I'd measure the bed you're in and expect a good discount.

cakewench · 17/08/2021 17:23

YANBU!! If they mean ‘caravan king size’ (also a new term to me!) then they need to specify that so that people can google and inform themselves as to what that means. I’d be very put out if I’d paid extra for a lodge with a king sized bed and I ended up with this.

Absolutely review this on Google and Trip Advisor btw. This exact sort of issue is why I read reviews before making a booking.

sabbii · 17/08/2021 17:26

eh, I thought kingsize related to width and most beds were ~200-205 long?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/08/2021 17:27

I didn't book a caravan, static or otherwise, I booked a luxury lodge, and paid accordingly. Now we're here, I can see that it IS a static caravan ...

They really are taking the piss aren't they - not unknown for independents cashing in this year. Even one man businesses know the difference between double and kingsize, and as with the lodge that's actually a caravan it's pretty clear they're flinging in whatever sounds good, regardless of what's actually on offer

Sounds like a case for naming and shaming to me (and of course an appropriate review)

DeflatedGinDrinker · 17/08/2021 17:29

OP YANBU that is bloody ridiculous! You can't even sleep properly. Hope you get a good refund.

billy1966 · 17/08/2021 17:34

Take lots of photos.

Sounds just awful.

gogohm · 17/08/2021 17:34

@DoubleTweenQueen
@GrandmaSteglitszch

Yes I will but there's not exactly a plan b because this is the plan b, I should be about to go to the Italian lakes and instead it's a Scottish loch (beautiful but rather different climate!).

At least the premier inn en route says extra wide!

LoveFall · 17/08/2021 17:57

I have always found British bed sizes a struggle. In Canada we have twin, double, queen and king. When in England we have booked hotels with "king" sized beds and been shocked at how small they are.

Your twin beds are smaller too, i swear.

The bed size thing drives me mental as we have a Canadian sized king at home and sleeping in an English double is torture.

We will try and get two singles instead.

I am the same as the poster who said she clings onto the side. Yes!

TheGenealogist · 17/08/2021 18:07

@Peanutsandchilli

You're in a typical British holiday park. A king sized bed in a static caravan is 190cm long. That's what you've got. However you try to dress it up, you can't get them for false advertising. They're within their rights not to compensate you and you've been offered a solution.

I agree it's stupid to describe a bed as a king when it's not standard, but I don't think you have any recourse, unfortunately.

But OP is not in a caravan. What happens or does not happen in a caravan is entirely irrelevant.

Complain, complain, complain. Shoddy customer service and it's not on.

MrsJuliaGulia · 17/08/2021 18:09

Oh OP, the DM is totally going to pick this up.

(YANBU by the way). Their solution is awful.

TheGenealogist · 17/08/2021 18:10

And if they're trying to pass off a CARAVAN as a "luxury lodge", that's even more unreasonable.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/08/2021 18:14

I'd go nuts - I literally wouldn't stay

I only book superking zipped beds (which I have at home)

I literally can't sleep if DH touches me at all in bed (and I'm only 5foot 3!)

LaurieFairyCake · 17/08/2021 18:14

I mean he can touch me when we're shagging (maybe Grin) but not for SLEEPING

Oblomov21 · 17/08/2021 18:21

I'd be furious. Why aren't you pressing harder, for a large refund?

Percypigg · 17/08/2021 18:25

I'd love to know where you're staying so that I could compare the description of the cara-lodge with what you've actually got.

gratedbeetroot · 17/08/2021 18:26

@Coogee

Find this interesting - my husband is 6'1 and it's never occurred to me to specifically book a king size. Maybe he sleeps really curled up

My husband got used to sleeping with his feet sticking out of the end of beds since he was a teenager. Maybe he does that.

Same and mine is 6’6”!

We have a standard double bed at home Shock

Etulosba · 17/08/2021 18:29

But OP is not in a caravan.

By the legal definition, she very probably is.
