AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

Please let them! And let us know where we can see it!

BradPittsLeftTit · 17/08/2021 14:20

@MrsMaizel

We are talking 2 inches difference in length 🤔
It's 4 inches difference not 2.

Ask most men and they'll usually argue it the other way....

SavageTomato · 17/08/2021 14:22

I might be a shorty at 5'2", but having a tall / very tall partner now and in the past, I have every sympathy! A few inches is absolutely crucial and the difference between good sleep and bad. Hope you get it sorted and don't have to waste too much time sorting this out when you should be having fun and it should have been sorted before you got there. Very irritating to be doing housekeeping stuff when you've already paid them to do it.

@MangoBiscuit

Oh, and for added hilarity, there is a TV crew here, and static cameras over the desk. They want to use footage of me complaining! Half tempted to let them!
Please do!!
BruceAndNosh · 17/08/2021 14:30

I'm only 5 foot 6 but I agree about footboards being the work of the devil as I can only sleep with my toes hanging over the end!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/08/2021 14:31

I’d be complaining very strongly. I won’t book anywhere without a king size bed - just can’t sleep with dh in a standard double any more - it feels very cramped.

Not long ago when it was just one night and I couldn’t find a king size anywhere, I booked a room with 2 singles.

I’m pretty sure a U.K. king size should be 5’ wide and 6’ 6” long. A standard double is 4’ 6” x 6’ 3”.

Rzwilson · 17/08/2021 14:37

From one tall couple to another we get it! Definitely complain - we certainly would!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 17/08/2021 14:41

I wouldn't want to share a double bed either (we don't stay over with a particular family member as there's only a double to share and the duvet is titchy too). We've got a Superking at home, so even a king feels squished. First world problems, but getting disturbed sleep is a dreadful way to have a holiday.

YANBU.

Frazzled2207 · 17/08/2021 14:47

quite shocking that they seem to be blatantly miss-selling and haven't noticed.
we're also tall and look for king beds and get frustrated when on websites it's not quite clear what you're getting.
But if it says king we'd definitely expect king!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/08/2021 14:53

when I was a girl there were small singles/bunks at 2ft6, singles at 3ft, french double at 4ft, double at 4ft6, then your 5ft queen size and 6ft king size

I think it's changed so everyone can vanity boast they have a king size when it's only a five foot bed :o :o

When we are settled after moving I am upgrading to a minimum of 6ft wide and preferably 6ft6 long

I am wondering about an Emperor bed though....CitizenM have them and they are amazing, think of alllllll the space!

MangoBiscuit · 17/08/2021 15:00

They've been over to measure up, and I've been duly informed that this is the correct size for a caravan king size.

Trouble is, I'm not in a caravan, I'm in a lodge, and I'm paying the increased price for it.

They have brought in dining chairs, and a folded up mattress topper.

This is our bed for the next 3 nights...

Howshouldibehave · 17/08/2021 15:02

That’s dreadful! I’d be emailing their head office.

Blossomtoes · 17/08/2021 15:02

I think I’d go home. And leave a detailed review.

BruceAndNosh · 17/08/2021 15:02

So what size is a caravan double?
A shelf?

Horst · 17/08/2021 15:02

Then they should list the actual size.

Coogee · 17/08/2021 15:02

Well it's a bit better than our solution. We piled the suitcases to one side of the bed to create a platform so that my husband could sleep diagonally.

PineappleTart · 17/08/2021 15:03

Oh they must be taking the piss? That's awful, I'd be tripping over those chairs

SpikeDearheart · 17/08/2021 15:03

They are cheeky fuckers!

itsgettingwierd · 17/08/2021 15:04

Next step.

You need the literature about how caravan bed sizes differ from actual bedside from their website. When it's given to you (or not) - thank them.

And the punchline - "oh and as we booked a lodged and not a caravan so could you get us that info now too"

EmotionalSupportBear · 17/08/2021 15:05

caravan double is probably a small double or a queen >.<

But i agree, you're NOT in a caravan, and they ought to specify the length of the beds.

SkiingIsHeaven · 17/08/2021 15:06

I assume that you will be leaving an accurate review with pictures.

Dogoodfeelgood · 17/08/2021 15:09

Complain complain complain. The squeaky wheel gets the oil :)

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/08/2021 15:13

Oh goody lots of nice photos for the reviews. I also would talk to the camera crew. You won’t come over as batshit if you are clear what happened, surely?

HaveringWavering · 17/08/2021 15:13

A "Caravan" King size? WTF? That is a comedically bad response. As is "had to cover the donut shop". I'd be really annoyed too about them not calling to say they would be delayed (aka buying themselves some time to invent an entirely new bed size classification system. I wonder if they have created a fake Wikipedia page and everything?)
