AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

Some confusion between American and UK bed sizes on this thread. A UK King size is approx the same size as an American Queen. An American King is approx the same size as a UK Super King.

I only know this because DM who lives in America bought me King size bed linen over there as it is much cheaper. It swamps our king size beds!! The Queen size fits sort of but not exactly.

HaveringWavering · 17/08/2021 10:25

I can just imagine how this will go- the lodge owners put "kingsize" in all their advertising as a selling point but will probably roll their eyes and try to convince you that you are making a fuss over a minor detail. Please try to make sure you are both standing up to your full height when you complain!

WestendVBroadway · 17/08/2021 10:25

I have to admit that, although I do have a king size bed I thought that they were just wider than a double, not longer.
Everyday is a school day!

billy1966 · 17/08/2021 10:27

Too right I would complain.

Comfortable sleep is a crucial part of a break.

reprehensibleme · 17/08/2021 10:27

We have an Australian queen size bed 153 x 203 cm which is the same as a UK king - I think pp is correct and the old queen size was ditched in the UK and is now referred to as king size.

Australian king size is 183 x 203 which is classed as super king in UK.

TheOrigRights · 17/08/2021 10:28

Do you honestly doubt that you could possibly being unreasonable.
You need to stand up for yourself (and your rights) more!

LimberlostLark · 17/08/2021 10:30

Funnily enough, the duvet COVER is for a kingsize, but the duvet is a double.

Complain for this alone. A duvet that does not full the cover up to the edges is a maximum irritation for me Smile

OublietteBravo · 17/08/2021 10:31

@Faithless12
I think Queen size is now called a small double. A size of bed no one needs, I have stayed in one and it’s really not for sharing.

I disagree. Both my DC have a small double instead of a single. The really appreciate the extra space. (I do agree that this size isn’t for sharing though).

idontlikealdi · 17/08/2021 10:32

@MangoBiscuit

It's 190cm long. No tape measure, but I pressed my head against the headboard, and checked where my heels hit. Definitely a double. Funnily enough, the duvet COVER is for a kingsize, but the duvet is a double. (Found kingsize duvet in the wardrobe, so we won't be cold tonight)

DP has just cooked me porridge so I'm not a total grumpy when we go speak to reception, heading over in a sec. Thank you all, feeling better just knowing I'm not being fussy.

It's just haven by any chance? All our beds and duvets were standard double / singles but all the covers were King so it was all a disaster by the morning. Couldn't quite figure that one out!

To the best of my lengthy bed buying recollection, Queen size has never used in the UK.

Yes. Six feet wide by six feet six long. I was incorrect when I said it was six eight long earlier.

Deux · 17/08/2021 10:40

Why is anyone in the UK referring to queen sized beds? When you go looking to buy bedding or a mattress in the UK it’s single, double, king and super king. Mattress sizes in the UK are standardised.

Bells3032 · 17/08/2021 10:43

I'm 5'3" and DH is 5'10" and still always book king sized beds for holidays. if i was given a standard double when i specifically paid for a King (and i do always check) I would be pissed off and complaining before i even spent the night

Lucillegoldenring · 17/08/2021 10:44

My friend just moved and needed a king size bed but couldn't get one as their room wasnt wide enough for the length of it. I have a king size bed and 6ft 2 husband..but that's when I found out the length changed as well as width 😂

Ah, my daughter has a small double, it's good for one, probably not two.

That said, I remember sometimes sharing a single bed with my boyfriend back in our university days - I was much skinnier then!

Foxhasbigsocks · 17/08/2021 10:51

Yanbu I would complain about this

Lulola · 17/08/2021 10:52

What have they said OP?

No they aren't for sharing, unless children. I have one, I'm never going to share a bed in my house again. I have one in the room that my GC share and my single adult DD has one. You gain room in a small bedroom, while having a bit more space.

My adult children have king and super king beds, both are longer than a double. They book the same because that's what they are used to. If you don't get what you've paid for then it's fine to complain.

I thought that too 😂

Find this interesting - my husband is 6'1 and it's never occurred to me to specifically book a king size. Maybe he sleeps really curled up Confused

user1471428785 · 17/08/2021 10:59

I own a holiday lodge ( hopefully not the one you are in as I wouldn't want anyone not to enjoy it) and think you should mention this to reception. A holiday is a time to relax and recuperate and you certainly won't if you haven't slept properly all week. Good luck though as where my lodge is, is fully booked all summer season so I'm not sure where they'd move you to. Hopefully like on our site, in theory at least, there are some company owned ones they keep back in case of problems like this. GOOD LUCK!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 17/08/2021 11:00

This happened to us at Centre Parcs. Lodge we booked had flooded so they moved us to a basic lodge with one double and 2 bunk bed rooms. We were all young and child free then and the men were all over 6ft.
Hope you get sorted, there were some very grumpy men on our weekend because they didn't have any availability to move us elsewhere.

TwooThirty · 17/08/2021 11:02

@MrsMaizel

We are talking 2 inches difference in length 🤔
When you’re over 6foot and your feet hang out the bottom of the bed that can make all the difference.

What height are you @MrsMaizel?

Howshouldibehave · 17/08/2021 11:02

What happens wrt holiday home owners who have misrepresented the facilities? Saying it’s a kingsize bed when it’s only a double simply isn’t true!
