AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

Would a static van ever be big enough for a King Size?

Some are massive, my grandparents had one that had two bathrooms and a kingsize bed, we loved staying there as it was bigger than our flat!

Horst · 17/08/2021 18:39

Sounds like your in a “twin lodge” Aka two static caravans attached in the middles.

So plenty of space for a king sized bed ffs. A static is what 28-32ft long and 10-12ft wide two of those together is plenary big enough.

They also can’t pick and choice what to call it, it’s either a lodge with normal sized goods or a caravan with caravan sized items.

We stayed in one this year, two king rooms one with en-suite, plus twin room, bathroom with full bath and a huge kitchen including full sized oven/fridge freezer, washer/dryer and oversized hob, living room with two sofas, chairs, full dining for 8 people plus kitchen island and we had a boot room. Plus deck obviously. This company your staying with is taking the piss.

The size of this unit would make it very difficult to move. You would need a very large HGV flat bed, and an escort at the very least. The roads here are quiet narrow, so I'm actually doubtful that they could have gotten it down them, even if the road was closed to other users.

If it’s a twin it come in two parts and they attach it once on site. You’ll be able to spot the rather large joining section on the ceiling likely and down the end walls.

I, too, would like to know the measurements of a 'caravan king size' bed (and a caravan double bed, for that matter). Has anybody found anything other that the previous link that suggests no difference? I've often thought that the doubles in Haven caravans seem a little short ...

Ops it didnt show the photo then did Confused

MangoBiscuit · 17/08/2021 18:46

This is the description, with branding, locations etc, removed. There's enough room in the living area that I could have put down my huge airbed and had a bloody good night's sleep.

I will be pushing for a reasonable refund, but I wanted to try to salvage some of the holiday first. I paid by credit card too, and have screenshots of the booking, and the website, and all the photos. Even a smallish refund would pay for a weeks camping trip. Should have just done that, but we decided to treat ourselves and splash out this time...Hmm

Yeah, i wouldn’t have thought that was a static caravan. Plus I’d have thought it was a normal size king size bed.

Horst · 17/08/2021 18:53

The picture looks quite caravany to me. Very coy naming of it I’m thinking. From
That picture it doesn’t really looks like a twin depending on how much more is by the kitchen table.

HaveringWavering · 17/08/2021 18:53

I can't believe that they came out with the "caravan king size" bullshit when that's what they are advertising! Is the manager you are dealing with the highest up you can go?

AllAroundTheWorldYeah · 17/08/2021 18:54

It's says "holiday home" which is synonymous with "static caravan"

What in that pic looks "caravany"? Where do you draw the line between a caravan and any holiday accommodation not made of brick eg a wooden cabin or a cabin with metal sides?

In any event, they call it a "lodge" and a "home".

Horst · 17/08/2021 18:56

Also new for 2020 in 2021 isn’t a very good selling point 😂

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/08/2021 18:57
@MangoBiscuit King-size is now used in UK to describe what used to be a Queen size - 5ft wide and the standard length of 180cm/6ft?
Is it! That explains why the king size bed in the air B and b at the weekend was tiny!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 18:57

We stayed in a holiday home. It was a cottage.Confused. A home doesn’t have to be a caravan.

Horst · 17/08/2021 19:00

It’s partly the layout and the style of the fittings that to me says caravan but it could just be that one photo of the unit being deceptive.

karenfisher · 17/08/2021 19:00

The picture of the bed on their website doesn't look like a king- more like a double looking at the width of the cushions and pillows behind it

No it's not! A static caravan is one of many types of holiday home. As is a Tuscan palazzo, a caribbean villa or Balmoral!

How have you seen the website?
Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/08/2021 19:02

It's says "holiday home" which is synonymous with "static caravan"

But the title says "Hot tub lodge ..."

It's true the following blurb mentions a holiday home, but then it repeats the word lodge too. As said, it seems a classic case of chucking in whatever sounds good with scant regard for the truth

fruitbrewhaha · 17/08/2021 19:03

Hmm it's one of those temporary buildings which come in two parts and are put together on site. they move them on the back of a lorry.

So they have changed the website to say double beds now OP

TatianaBis · 17/08/2021 19:04

Just demand a refund, film the TV thing and Google for somewhere local that has decent beds. Life is just too short - or rather the bed.

The final picture on their website, of the exterior of the "lodge", shows it very obviously is a caravan. The interior pictures also look caravany. Definitely shouldn't be calling it a lodge.

Completely irrelevant though as they state king size bed and a king size bed is a king size bed.
