To think Joe Biden is an even worse president than Trump?

Aspiringmatriarch · 16/08/2021 13:45

I realise Trump was appalling in many ways so this isn't a pro-Trump post really, and I know he was the one who put things in motion for the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But to pull out in such a sudden and shambolic way will without doubt be the direct cause of many deaths and other atrocities in Afghanistan, including the deaths of those who helped the US and other forces. I think it's utterly unforgivable. Can't think of anything Trump did with quite such immediate and devastating consequences. AIBU?

However I'm interested in what type of speech impediment causes someone to refer to Harris's husband as her wife ... to mis-name which state he's in ... to mix up Trump with Bush (and Obama) ... to say he's running for the Senate instead of the Presidency ... to insist that 200 million have died of Covid ... and many more

Well, I called the cat my daughter's name and often mix up DH and DS. The other day, I had to Google how old I was as I couldn't work it out by myself. I was utterly convinced Saturday was Sunday. Yet, here I am in my mid-forties, holding down a job and living my life. Just got a lot on my plate. I often say I'm really glad I'm not old because I could no longer get away with these mistakes. People make mistakes all the time. There's no way he could memorise speeches and answers to questions, etc if he was really sick.

@Voicefancier

the uk have got people out - not sure about the usa .

jasjas1973 · 16/08/2021 19:21

@PurpleVerbena

I would rather have Trump back than this Biden idiot, any day. At least he said what he felt.
So did Hitler - both AH and Trump were/are deranged
AuldAlliance · 16/08/2021 19:23

@MariposaLilly

Trump was one of the best President we've ever had. (I'm in US). Trump was for peace and bringing jobs back to America - which he did.

We knew Biden was suffering from cognitive impairment for at least a year.

RIGHT NOW WE DON'T KNOW WHO IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY - it is not Biden, he's too out of it mentally.

The peace loving world should be very, very scared.

The ignorant & easily led were so offended by Trump's 'mean' Tweets that to them it was well worth installing an old demented old man as leader of the free world just to stop being offended by Tweets. I loved that Trump was defending himself and wasn't putting up with their ignorant BS.

Biden wasn't not elected. The election was stolen.

God help us all!

Biden wasn't not elected.

Quite.

Steakandcheeseplease · 16/08/2021 19:25

What he has done is incomprehensible. He could have least waited till winter started when fighting slowed/stopped and got every one out.

He is an absolute imbecile.

Its more nuanced than 'people voted them to leave'. The Taliban where always fought back and were pushed in to hiding. Now, they have free reign to train more terrorists/armies unchallenged and unwatched, they now have legitimacy. They also have the support of china and Russia. This is really really bad news and there will be terrible consequences for us.

UsedUpUsername · 16/08/2021 19:28

Biden has been a good president so far and is much more popular with Americans than Trump

If this is what being a good president is ... I don’t think we can take too much more of this ....

What’s actually become better?

Steakandcheeseplease · 16/08/2021 19:45

It doesnt matter what he has done in the 200 days he has been in.

What he has done now its catastrophic. No warning was given. And there are still British troops and civilians there - as well as US civilians. Four interpreters that helped the Allies were murdered out side their homes the other night.

Have you seen the scenes at Kabul airport? People have fallen of planes trying to get in them whilst they are taking off. They are stood on the run way with children in their arms.

THIS is what he will be remembered for.

beastlyslumber · 16/08/2021 19:53

I found this a useful overview (from a conservative perspective) of what's been going on:

Thank you. You've made me very happy. 🙂 At least for the people who got out.

lllllllllll · 16/08/2021 19:56

I was incandescent over Biden’s “ask me about something nice” when interviewed about the plight of women and children. Spectacularly insensitive and total lack of insight.

Did he actually say that?! Awful!!! Angry

YankeeDad · 16/08/2021 19:57

We should also remember that Biden and American troops are not murdering anyone. The Taliban are doing that.

The US went in to Afghanistan 20 years ago after planes were flown into their buildings, orchestrated by people whom the US had trained under Reagan to fight against the Soviets. Then they could not figure out how to leave, without leaving those people in charge.

Clearly the Biden administration severely misjudged the speed at which this collapse would happen. Taliban had since early 2020 (date of signing agreement with Trump) to prepare their campaign, so with hindsight, it's no surprise. But otherwise, leaving all of the blame for this with Biden (or with Biden and Trump) is mostly missing the point.

What utter bollocks.

We've been 'warning' the Afghan government that we're leaving for years. We gave them a timeline. The UK and US government were meant to be leaving in the autumn but because the Afghan army is so shite we have to leave early for the safety of our own people.

The UK ambassador (supporting by UK mil) is still there because they are trying to get out those who have a right to reside in the UK. The same with the US (but US ambassador has left) with the US troops protecting the airfield.

We can't occupy Afghanistan forever. This was going to happen when we left, whenever we left.

But you can fly yourself over there and sort it all out if you can do better or want to volunteer you life or limbs?

MordenLarch · 16/08/2021 19:58

Good grief - I can’t understand why every time anyone criticises Trump or Biden people chime in with “at least isn’t as bad!” etc.

I think we’re beyond am either/or situation here. They are clearly BOTH useless and BOTH have no interest in women or girls’ rights at home or abroad.

lllllllllll · 16/08/2021 20:03

being a 'birther'
'grab them by the pussy!'
calling African countries 'shithole countries'
'very fine people on both sides' in Charlottesville to white supremacists
claiming that the hurricane in Puerto Rico wasn't a real catastrophe
believing he is 'the least racist'
calling Mexicans rapists
telling Proud Boys ' stand down and stand by'
connection to Russia and other authoritarian regimes
paying hush money for his affaires
being accused of assaulting women
putting conservative judges on as many benches a possible, even Kavanaugh
endorsing violence against the media
sabotage of Obmacare
low tax rate for the big companies
January 6th insurrection
withdrawal from Paris Climate agreement
total failure in containing COVID
claims election fraud, where there is none
blackmailing representatives to change the election results
considering martial law
mocking disabled reporter
insulting the military calling dead soldiers 'losers' and 'suckers'
child separation (in cages)
and lies over lies over lies (alternative facts)

^

That stuff is all absolutely dreadful, without a doubt. But I think that leaving thousands of women and children to the mercy of the Taliban is even worse. I’m so afraid for them.

UsedUpUsername · 16/08/2021 20:04

Honestly GW Bush is probably worse than either, but this is just hugely embarrassing.

You can boil a lot of that to:

He insulted some people.

Nothing is as embarrassing as what happened in Kabul though. People thought Mosul was bad ...

Are you also afraid for the women in Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Russia etc...and want to fight a war for them?

And when I say fight...I mean people like you volunteering the lives of soldiers without removing your arse from your armchair?

lllllllllll · 16/08/2021 20:07

Biden was left with the poisoned chalice.

@saraclara he’s been in office 7 months - ample time to reverse any decisions that had been made on troop withdrawal and stay in Afghanistan.

lllllllllll · 16/08/2021 20:08

@Thatsjustwhatithink Eh? Why would I want to fight a war with India? Confused

@Thatsjustwhatithink Eh? Why would I want to fight a war with India? Confused

Because outside of South Africa it has the highest level of sexual violence against women. And you want to stay in Afghanistan to protect women...do you also want to go to other countries too?
Steakandcheeseplease · 16/08/2021 20:13

Safety of own people? What about all the fucking US and UK citizens that have been left there stranded?

Fuck off with your 'we can't occupy Afghanistan forever' - they were in a position of authority/responsibilty and they should have at least got every one out first or spoke to the UK gov about what they were about to do so we could at least prepare.

But you can fly yourself over there and sort it all out if you can do better or want to volunteer you life or limbs?

Well from the scenes from Kabul airport, people falling off planes as every one is in utter chaos and trying to escape before the actual bogey men come - I don't think think they are accepting incoming flights from the north west of the UK...

Thatsjustwhatithink · 16/08/2021 20:13

He already changed the decisions. The original timeline from the original Trump deal was removal of US forces by May 1 2021. Biden made the decision to delay that timeline. At the point he changed the deal, it was no longer Trumps deal. It became Biden's deal.
Panickingpavlova · 16/08/2021 20:14

As Vile and hideous as trumps mouth and ideas were /are, this is "action or inaction from Biden

I can't imagine what he's going to say.
What he can say.
Has any president had such an awkward speech to make because aside from his own personal verbal monumental gaffs, the taliban and world will hang on every word.

I do hope he makes it extremely clear that the rescue Misson will go ahead without any trouble..
