To think having shopping delivered before 8am on Sunday is not very neighbourly?

We've been away for the last two weekends so I'd blissfully forgotten about this really annoying routine my relatively new neighbours have. Then I heard the "slide crash" of the Tesco van this morning at 7.36am Angry.
She's on mat leave, he wfh and certainly doesn't seem to be confined to home office all day everyday, so they really don't need it delivered this early on this particular day.
I usually have to get up at about 8.15 on Sundays to cart my DC's off to various sporting activities. But in the week I have to get up at 7.15 so that extra hour is cherished. Only now I'm awake thanks to the dulcet tones of crates being unloaded.
This is lighthearted btw, I know they are more important things to worry about. But bloody hell it's a bit rude!

I thought this post may have been about me when I saw the title 😂 our Tesco delivery seemed extra loud this morning at 8:30am.
Always try to book the 9-10am slot on a Sunday now.

shouldistop · 15/08/2021 21:44

@Lightisnotwhite I think that's only in England. Certainly in Scotland we don't have restricted Sunday hours

Gwenhwyfar · 15/08/2021 22:18
@Gwenhwyfar It isn't that early, people will probably cope, if they are knackered they will go back to sleep. I think people can be overly precious.
7.30am on a Sunday isn't that early? Are you joking?

lannistunut · 15/08/2021 22:30

No, I am not joking, I have neighbours who regularly get takeaways at midnight or later, which is fine by me. I do not consider 7:30am too early.

WhatAShilohPitt · 15/08/2021 22:54

I think it’s pretty inconsiderate. Ours came at 8.30 today and I was conscious of disturbing our neighbours. Some of us are thoughtful and others couldn’t give a shit!

strivingtosucceed · 15/08/2021 23:06

Problem is sometimes those are the only slots available, especially if they're short notice. Also, i've found more than once that those times are really just a guideline, i've had 9pm deliveries come at 12am and 8ams come at 7am.

As long as it's not an every day thing, i'd just wear earplugs every saturday night.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 16/08/2021 00:38

Don't you have a lunch hour or a break during the day

Some jobs can't have a set in stone, 1 hour lunch every day. Fucking hell, I'm lucky if I get half an hour, or frankly, a break at all.

If I am working, I am working. I can't leave meetings (which is 90% of my day) for a food delivery.

Omg this made me laugh as I have neighbours who get their food deliveredon a Sunday at a ridiculous early time and it winds me right up to be honest as why would you want to get a food order so early?? and on a Sunday of all days. I mean amazon don’t even start to deliver till 10 am so what is it with Tesco and why are their delivery drivers so loud and have to make so much noise and also have their van radios on so loud with the windows down.??

Sorry for going on btw.🙄😱🥺🙃

CiaoForNiao · 16/08/2021 01:02

@Lightisnotwhite

I don’t think you can get early morning deliveries from a supermarket on Sunday. There’s strict rules about the hours people can work and things can be open ( in the uk).
I can get deliveries at 6am on a Sunday from Asda and Iceland. In England.
CiaoForNiao · 16/08/2021 01:05

Actually maybe I can't. Iceland showed some earlier. It only shows them from 8am now. And asda has a 6am slot but it's sold out so maybe it doesn't really exist.

MrsMop1964 · 16/08/2021 01:20

It'd bug me too but I wouldn't say anything. I'm of an age when shops didn't open Sundays and still at the back of my mind it's a day of rest. I try not to do anything noisy on Sundays, even running the washing machine (yes I know, I'm bonkers).
As for noise waking me, a delivery definitely would , but in the past living right by Gatwick with planes taking off every couple of minutes never did. I guess you tune out regular noise.

6-7am available Sunday from Morrison's.
Mablefly · 16/08/2021 06:30

I would struggle with this too and in return I do think about my immediate neighbours' schedule when ordering food shops etc.

I think, looking at the majority of replies, my expectations are out of kilter / unrealistic. Since COVID I seem to crave peace and quiet more than ever so we are planning to move in a couple of years to somewhere with a bit more distance between us an everyone else (currently terraced house).

lannistunut · 16/08/2021 06:56

What is it with these people who have no idea what some working days are actually like Confused Confused Confused

Presumably they are people who have never actually had busy/stressful/hectic jobs?

Yes I have a break during the day. No, I can not tell you today what time I will be taking my break next Tuesday.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2021 07:09

Presumably they are people who have never actually had busy/stressful/hectic jobs

Probably the sorts of people who say things like 'caring for a newborn is harder than any WOH job' and imagine 'work' as being a bit of light admin at their own pace interspersed with good coffee and intelligent conversation.

What I've learned about WFH and having deliveries is that they're guaranteed to come when it's least convenient. I don't have anywhere near as many meetings as many people who seem to spend their lives on Zoom etc, but there's nothing like a call with a client or a senior at work to get the delivery folks charging to my door.

We don't have groceries delivered only general online shopping but receiving a supermarket delivery sounds a lot more involved than just opening the door, shouting 'thank you' to the person hot footing it up the drive and picking up the parcel.

Lumpwoody · 16/08/2021 07:12

Honestly I’m so pissed off that I was told I was doing my life wrong because it takes me longer to take in shopping than 2 minutes.

If Im in a meeting I can’t just stop and go and deal with a delivery. I have muted myself and shouted out the window at a delivery man to leave the parcel on the step but that’s as much as I can do.

As I’ve said. Deliveries are an hour. My lunch is usually half an hour.

I try to keep to the same time but because I work internationally, meetings drop in to my calendar overnight that I can’t control.

SofiaMichelle · 16/08/2021 07:24

I think you're right. And there seems to be no concept of people not working 9-5 Monday to Friday on MN.

Would it still be 'rude' Confused to have shopping delivered at 11pm if the neighbour's working day finished at 10pm?

Actually, it would probably be considered 'rude' of them to have a job which starts at 6am in case they woke MNers up leaving home at 5am to get there. How dare they...

MN world really is in a parallel universe.

Ha, yes quite - I have a neighbour who leaves every day at 5:30, I shall have a word with him and see if he could rethink his career!

Lumpwoody · 16/08/2021 07:28

I don’t have a standard day (see above re working internationally) my hours flex. I can’t guarantee I’ll be working 9-5 any particular day either. Might start at 6 or finish at 10 it’s impossible to know a week ahead.

LemonRoses · 16/08/2021 07:31

We don’t have deliveries (which at least serve a purpose and are time limited). We have noisy cyclists who shout at each other as they fly at excessive speed down the hill into the village.
I feel your pain.

tigger1001 · 16/08/2021 07:34

@Faevern

Anyone old enough to remember the milk man clinking bottles at 4am every morning up and down the street? Don't think they delivered Sundays though?
I still get a milk delivery, 3 times a week. He delivers really early too, I suspect around 1am
pam290358 · 16/08/2021 07:35

YABU. It’s their business, and you don’t know the reasons behind it. If supermarkets offer deliveries at that time, then why is it unreasonable to use them ? From personal experience, trying to book online slots has been difficult lately and sometimes the only ones left are early morning, so there’s no alternative. I have to say though, the quality of the fresh stuff on the early morning runs are much better, so perhaps that’s the reason.

tigger1001 · 16/08/2021 07:39

@user1497787065

These threads always amuse me. We all keep different hours and therefore our thoughts on what is a 'reasonable' time varies hugely. My first thought when reading this post was amazement that you don't normally get up until 7.15!

What is reasonable varies hugely within MN. I remember a thread sometime ago when a woman was moaned at by a neighbour for drying her hair at 6am with a dryer before she left for work at 6.15am. The general concensus of opinion was she was unreasonable and she should leave her hair to dry naturally! She was going to work for god sake

I think you ABU!

Totally agree with this.

It's been deemed a reasonable time by the supermarket and people will of course choose the early slot if it suits them. Just like they will opt for a later slot if that suits better.

Some weeks we get bin lorry collections between 6.30 am and 8am. It's just regular neighbourhood noise.

Op I do think yabu.

pam290358 · 16/08/2021 07:40

@BarbaraofSeville receiving a supermarket delivery sounds a lot more involved than just opening the door, shouting 'thank you' to the person hot footing it up the drive and picking up the parcel.

And even more so now that supermarkets have stopped bagging the online deliveries. It takes ages to unload if you do a big shop, and as one of the drivers pointed out, each delivery takes longer and it’s no better for the environment because they have to keep the diesel van running for the refrigeration. Amazon Prime seem to have got it right - they’ve swapped from plastic to recycled paper bags. Don’t know why the supermarkets don’t do this.
