To think having shopping delivered before 8am on Sunday is not very neighbourly?

We've been away for the last two weekends so I'd blissfully forgotten about this really annoying routine my relatively new neighbours have. Then I heard the "slide crash" of the Tesco van this morning at 7.36am Angry.
She's on mat leave, he wfh and certainly doesn't seem to be confined to home office all day everyday, so they really don't need it delivered this early on this particular day.
I usually have to get up at about 8.15 on Sundays to cart my DC's off to various sporting activities. But in the week I have to get up at 7.15 so that extra hour is cherished. Only now I'm awake thanks to the dulcet tones of crates being unloaded.
This is lighthearted btw, I know they are more important things to worry about. But bloody hell it's a bit rude!

These threads always amuse me. We all keep different hours and therefore our thoughts on what is a 'reasonable' time varies hugely. My first thought when reading this post was amazement that you don't normally get up until 7.15!

What is reasonable varies hugely within MN. I remember a thread sometime ago when a woman was moaned at by a neighbour for drying her hair at 6am with a dryer before she left for work at 6.15am. The general concensus of opinion was she was unreasonable and she should leave her hair to dry naturally! She was going to work for god sake

I think you ABU!

whatistheworld · 15/08/2021 11:52

i agree its selfish and entitled!!! there should not be banging and crashing on a sunday before 9 am

BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2021 11:53

I think someone tried to tie down what time it was reasonable to do anything noisy on a recent thread and it was concluded there isn't one.

We must never do any DIY, gardening, have anything delivered, have our bins emptied, let our DC play out or do anything except sit quietly lest we make a noise that could disturb anyone in earshot.

bunnybuggs · 15/08/2021 11:54

YABVU - 7.14 am is not the middle of the night - many people are up and about at that time even on Sundays.

I have never understood the necessity of some people for a 'lie-in' at the weekend. Throughout my life I have managed to be out of bed by 6.00 am - either to go to work or latterly to take the dog out.
I fail to see how the noise of a few crates for probably less than 10 minutes can have that much of a detrimental effect on your life.
I am all for quiet but that is ridiculous.

Shock horror, people lead different lives to you and keep different schedules.

@Lightisnotwhite

I don’t think you can get early morning deliveries from a supermarket on Sunday. There’s strict rules about the hours people can work and things can be open ( in the uk).
Why do people always say this stuff. I assume you are talking about England? It's certainly not the case in Scotland. We can work whenever we like on a Sunday and out 24 hour supermarkets are just that - 24hr 7 days apart from Xmas and NYD. They do not close on a Saturday night. So definitely not an 'in the UK' thing
HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/08/2021 12:09

I love my early Sunday food delivery! Get it unpacked and put away and still have the whole day without faffing. I'm at work during the week and out most evenings.

I'm not sure if it annoys the neighbours. I'd consider changing it if they said anything... But only if they agreed to stop doing things that annoyed me Grin

SpiderinaWingMirror · 15/08/2021 12:15

Mind you I have milk delivered 3 days a week and that must arrive at 4am. I never hear it but it may well piss off someone else

The milk deliveries at the house across the small car park from us wake me up at 4am without fail, the van is louder than a tractor, it's necessary to reverse to get back out of the street so we get the beep beep beep plus the clanging of glass. It's beginning to get light at that time so I don't get back to sleep. Also wakes the dog but not the dc.
HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/08/2021 12:20

Anyway, you can't keep everyone happy all the time. One person's antisocial is another person's perfectly acceptable.

I very rarely lie in, my guilty pleasure is an afternoon nap on a weekend afternoon. My neighbour often mows his lawn then. I can't imagine he's going to stop as I find it irritating if I want to snooze. Equally, he can't expect me to plan my life around his schedule.

memberofthewedding · 15/08/2021 12:24

Ive had Tesco deliveries for more than 15 years - ever since they began in this area. I usually have the 8-9am slot, usually on a saturday. The earliest sunday slot is 9 am. The van can come upto 15 minutes early. If any PITA neighbour asked me to change my slot or suggested that I should I would tell them to jog on!

One morning my NDN asked the driver to give me a message that she wanted to see me. I told him what a whining bitch she was. On the way out he called over "Sorry luv I forgot to tell her!"

Chickoletta · 15/08/2021 12:29

I’m just amazed that anyone with children doesn’t have to get up before 7:15 on a week day!

This would annoy me too along with many, many aspects of having neighbours. We now live very rurally and can’t even see another house from anywhere on our property. We love it but it’s a trade off - we can’t walk to the shops, pub, school etc and we are pretty isolated.

Lachimolala · 15/08/2021 12:29

Is it a budget thing maybe? I often have that slot because it’s the cheapest one for the Morrison’s near me, and I’m having to really watch every penny right now. Also similar to others I like to batch cook on a Sunday and I’ve found the Sunday delivery seems to be the freshest.

liveforsummer · 15/08/2021 12:38

@Chickoletta that all depends on the age of your dc. Mine are 8 and 11 and love a lie in. It's 12.40 and although we are now up no one is yet dressed (back to school/work this week so making the most of it)

supermoonrising · 15/08/2021 12:57

Is a delivery truck really that noisy? I mean, we’re hardly talking a lawn mower or revving a motorbike for 5 minutes here are we?
8am is a reasonable time. If you’re sleeping at midnight, that’s still 8 hours sleep. If you’re sleeping later, we’ll that’s up to you but you can’t expect other people not to start their day.

Akire · 15/08/2021 12:59

I live in block of flats some supermarkets are so much louder than others. Tesco’s for example make most noise and take good 30min for one delivery. I’ve no idea what they are doing. When hear Waitrose advertising pre 7am time slots I’m like no way!!

TabbyStar · 15/08/2021 13:07

It would annoy me too OP as I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen (Parklife!)

JamieLeeBee · 15/08/2021 13:09

I'm a lone parent with no childcare whatsoever.

So... I get my shopping delivered between 9pm and 10pm when she is hopefully asleep. Because I'm in an upstairs flat and I cant leave my child alone to go down and deal with the shopping.

Does this make me unneighbourly? Even though I have no choice? I've had to resort to online shopping again as my child almost had a serious fall on the stairs the other day which had resulted in the top of my leg going black with bruising because I had to throw myself in the way to stop her falling. Whilst holding 6 heavy bags as I attempted to go shopping due to my neighbour gurning when I get it delivered.
@flipflopslap already use earplugs.
If it wakes you up while wearing ear plugs you are not wearing them right or you need better ear plugs!! I'm a really light sleeper & hear nothing when I have good ear plugs in properly

newnortherner111 · 15/08/2021 14:14

@TabbyStar you better get some exercise!!!

LH1987 · 15/08/2021 14:22

YANBU to be annoyed by being woken, but if you complain to them you will come across as a loon!

TabbyStar · 15/08/2021 14:30

Hmm, I'll have a cup of tea and think about leaving the house....

Macncheeseballs · 15/08/2021 14:36

It's massively unreasonable and entitled, I try to keep anything noisy inside the same hours that workmen are allowed to work

SpindleWhorl · 15/08/2021 14:42

@Chippychipcrisps

Totally agree. My neighbour seems to get Asda/Ocado slots that arrive before 6am or after 10pm. The sound of crates doesn’t bother me but the van arriving sounds like my old breast pump in action.
Oh genius Grin Thank you for the laugh!
itsgettingwierd · 15/08/2021 15:43

Count yourself lucky they are just arriving that early.

My neighbour gets hers early (fine) but I have to leave early to take ds swimming.

Every week without fail I have to tell the driver to move as he's blocking me in.

Every week he tells me he'll "just be a few minutes".

After 4 weeks of this I took a photo of him, his van and how he was blocking me in and said the next time it'll be going on Tesco Twitter page I don't even do Twitter!

Somehow as if by magic he manages to now park 2m further up outside my neighbours front door. 🤷‍♀️
