To think having shopping delivered before 8am on Sunday is not very neighbourly?

We've been away for the last two weekends so I'd blissfully forgotten about this really annoying routine my relatively new neighbours have. Then I heard the "slide crash" of the Tesco van this morning at 7.36am Angry.
She's on mat leave, he wfh and certainly doesn't seem to be confined to home office all day everyday, so they really don't need it delivered this early on this particular day.
I usually have to get up at about 8.15 on Sundays to cart my DC's off to various sporting activities. But in the week I have to get up at 7.15 so that extra hour is cherished. Only now I'm awake thanks to the dulcet tones of crates being unloaded.
This is lighthearted btw, I know they are more important things to worry about. But bloody hell it's a bit rude!

@Dishwashersaurous

Because I cannot imagine being woken by a van at the neighbours. And I'm not that deep a sleeper.

So just wondering if there is an underlying health issue etc

🤣 when you post crap like that do you say "hmmmm" & narrow your eyes while gently stroking your chin?

a loud slam would wake up a lot of people. it's normal.
because it's a loud noise.
how is that hard to understand?

luxxlisbon · 15/08/2021 09:18

Not rude at all. I wouldn’t be considering neighbours when ordering my online shop, I would only be concerned about what time works for me.
Very ott for you to be annoyed about this, neighbours are allowed to live their lives.

Confused

if you are not goady, then you are just lucky.

Most delivery drivers make an absolute racket. I hear my deliveries coming even from the other side of the house before they are anywhere near the door bell, and I can tell you what time my neighbours have theirs.

Deliveries are LOUD.

isthisareverse · 15/08/2021 09:21

it's not about being "allowed" or not, it's being considerate.

When everybody IS mindful of others, the entire neighbourhood is happier. Everybody is allowed to slam their doors at 6am, take their rubbish bin out at 2 or 5am, be generally noisy with normal daily life noises.

When people try to avoid noise early or late, it's bliss. 🤷

Mumdiva99 · 15/08/2021 09:22

I normally have the 7-8 slot on a Sunday. It is a bit antisocial. But it works for me, we get food for the week and Sunday lunch. I can go out after it here....and usually walk with a friend at 9.

Today my friend is away so I went for the 8-9 slot.....then I remembered if you get the early slot they are bang on time or early. Get a later one and they come right at the end of the time slot. So shopping has only just been delivered......and I still have to put it away.....

Notonthestairs · 15/08/2021 09:22

Our usual van backs on to our driveway (reversing alarm), slams open side door, up and down in the van with plastic crates and then a chat with me about substitutions and how busy our road is (B road, 30 mph but cut through to/from M25).

Maybe Dishwasher has a health condition which prevents her from waking up - might be worth getting that checked out.

roundtable · 15/08/2021 09:26

You know when people say there no such thing as a stupid question? Hmmm. Seems to happen on every thread at the moment.

Op - get them to add something nice for your breakfast to their shopping order. Then you'll look forward to the sound of that van! Grin

SpindleWhorl · 15/08/2021 09:27

I can hear the reversing alarms from delivery vans in the next road through double glazing, and my hearing is crap!

They are designed to be LOUD.

Dishwashersaurous · 15/08/2021 09:27

But the noise is outside. Behind windows, curtains etc. It's not actually that close and is outside.

If a van slamming wakes up then surely woken by motorbike going down the road or similar.

The noise is outside

Are you all right? You seem awfully invested in making a bit of a tit out of yourself Grin
Dishwashersaurous · 15/08/2021 09:29

Probably it hasn't occurred to your neighbours that it would wake you up. ( it wouldn't me because as we've established noises outside don't wake me. )

If you tell them they may well change it

So

Antsinyourpanta · 15/08/2021 09:31

@Dishwashersaurous

Windows and curtains do not block out all sound!!
Yes I would be woken by a loud motorbike!
Or an ambulance or the person over the roads burglar alarm

Treacletreacle · 15/08/2021 09:34

I have the joy of our rubbish being collected usually around 6am every Thursday. One time it was 5.45. Thursdays I'm a cranky pants 🤣

AfternoonToffee · 15/08/2021 09:34

I live in a tight cul-de-sac, we hear the vans chugging back down way before we see them. One of life's great annoyances though OP.

Dishwashersaurous · 15/08/2021 09:34

OK I'm clearly in the minority as noises outside wouldn't wake me once I'm asleep, or my kids etc.

How does anyone sleep on houses near busy roads if they are woken by every motorbike etc.

queenatom · 15/08/2021 09:35

We get our shopping delivered in the 7 — 8am Sunday slot, it was the only regular one we could get for ages and to be honest it never occurred to me that it would be putting anyone out! I'll confess I rarely sleep past 6am anyway so perhaps it just doesn't seem that early to me?

Ponoka7 · 15/08/2021 09:36

Just because you work from home doesn't mean that you can take a break whenever you want. My Iceland and Asda delivery slot starts from 6am. I don't get to choose the time. Our Tesco deliveries don't start until 8, though.

bogoffmda · 15/08/2021 09:37

My joyous neighbours drill, bang, hoover most nights till gone 2230. She seems to be breaking the world record on being pinged and needing to isolate, so not like there is not enough time in the day and he works 4 days per week, sometimes late - then comes in and starts drilling - it is shite situation as they do not give a shit about their neighbours. This is the 3rd set of neighbours on that side and rarely heard the previous sets - this is an awful situation.

The one time I got a delivery at 0800 on aSaturday- they came round and moaned that I had woken them up.

I just smiled - saying people in glass houses. The response I got was - we have rights you know and what are you trying to say!!

And yes it is rude to not consider your neighbours when you live in close proximity to others. I live my life but I consider those around me - I go to work early but don't slam doors, rev my engine and come in and out of the house 5+ times at 0600 when I leave for work - manners, considerate and an awareness of people other than ME!

thesnailandthewhale · 15/08/2021 09:38

Dishwasher - I used to live on a main road and was used to the constant traffic and it didn't disturb me, however I now live in a quiet cul-de-sac and a delivery van breaking the silence would definitely wake me up. Its the interruption from the silence that does it. Not sure how that is so hard to understand :)

Travielkapelka · 15/08/2021 09:39

Wouldn’t bother me. I just had an 8am delivery. I wanted it as early as possible as I have plans for the rest of the day. I WFH but last thing I need is a food delivery appearing in the middle of a meeting as I’m, you know, working

We have the same AngryOur bin lorries crawl down our street at around 6am on Wednesdays. Often earlier actually. I know bins need to be collected but I really wish we had a later slot!

But what I , clearly in a cack handed way, and a couple of others were saying. Is that we wouldn't think that this would be a problem for the neighbours ( and I'm not the ops neighbour).

But if I knew then absolutely I would change it

RandomDent · 15/08/2021 09:41

I’m just stunned they get a slot at all. Nobody can get one round my way.

fruitbrewhaha · 15/08/2021 09:41

It probably wouldn't wake me up but we do have quite new double glazing and it really keeps out the nise.

I am now very envious of the lovely Sunday breakfasts people are having, I have just got back from camping and we've nothing in the house.

OhGiveUp · 15/08/2021 09:43

@Dishwashersaurous Because, generally speaking, people who live on busy roads tend to become attuned to the noise fairly quickly, so in the end you don't notice it ( I've lived on an extremely busy road )
Whereas if you live on a quiet road, then unexpected noises such as delivery vans and loud motorbikers etc tend to be noticeable.
