To think having shopping delivered before 8am on Sunday is not very neighbourly?

We've been away for the last two weekends so I'd blissfully forgotten about this really annoying routine my relatively new neighbours have. Then I heard the "slide crash" of the Tesco van this morning at 7.36am Angry.
She's on mat leave, he wfh and certainly doesn't seem to be confined to home office all day everyday, so they really don't need it delivered this early on this particular day.
I usually have to get up at about 8.15 on Sundays to cart my DC's off to various sporting activities. But in the week I have to get up at 7.15 so that extra hour is cherished. Only now I'm awake thanks to the dulcet tones of crates being unloaded.
This is lighthearted btw, I know they are more important things to worry about. But bloody hell it's a bit rude!

Next door's child was playing outside at 5.30am this morning complete with sbrieks. Now that is rude!

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 15/08/2021 10:28

That would probably rouse me but I’d fall asleep again. I work nights so have to listen to all the noises people make during the day. I sleep well mind you but on occasion I wake up I can’t fall asleep again very well. It’s life. I wouldn’t get a delivery that early tho I do go to the supermarket after nights sometimes when it’s nice and quiet but I do find myself buying a load of nonsense.

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:29

Is it really so hard to understand that people who are wfh are not all able to just stop, corral dog, answer door to delivery man, check subs, cart in the plastic boxes, unload them, give them back, sign the docket or check it, and put away frozen and chilled stuff - during their working day?

Onthegrid · 15/08/2021 10:29

We live in a cul de sac of 40 houses I think every one gets a shopping delivery judging by the number of vans going up and down the road at all hours of the day, I can hear them arrive for all the surrounding houses if I am in the front of the house. And yes if I am in bed they wake me.

But nothing is annoying as our neighbour a few doors down who has a gravel front garden which he rakes early every Sunday

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 15/08/2021 10:29

Slots are hard to come buy at times so I’ve ended up with the early morning one or late night occasionally and would never not book it due to the neighbours. I’m very considerate of them but a five minute delivery is nothing.

isthisareverse · 15/08/2021 10:30

lannistunut

surely you can understand that not everyone is like you working a non-stop 16 hours a day and it's actually quite rare for people to be unable to fit a delivery at reasonable hours around their working day?

Most jobs allow you to pee during the work day too.
So it's not that common to be unable to find the 2 minutes you need to grab the food shop and put the fresh bits in the fridge.

How do you think the rest of us working people manage..

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:30

@lannistunut

Biscuit for those thinking everyone can reliably fit a delivery slot into a busy working day when wfh.

These comments can only come from people with limited experience of the workplace - not every job is as flexible or as relaxed as to allow that! At my work, if someone phones, I'm expected to answer, and it is likely to be pretty important/time-critical.

Same. I’m expected to answer instant messages and give opinion/advice any time during the day and if I’m working on something complicated I can’t stop as i will lose my concentration .

good grief, who does that?

Empty crates in bag, separate fresh and not fresh as you go, bring bags to kitchen, put fresh and frozen away. Literally no more than 3 minutes and I am very generous!

The whole point of online delivery is avoid faffing and wasting time and be quicker than an aldi checkout. You are doing it wrong 😂

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:32

And if I have a meeting i pee before it.

It takes me longer than the 2 minutes to unload and unpack the shopping - even if I only do the chilled and frozen stuff.

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:34

I’m disabled, for a start.
I can’t lift the crates so I have to push them along the floor.

the delivery men aren’t allowed to bring the groceries to the kitchen any more.

Sorry that means I’m doing my life wrong.

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:36

Also. They don’t do bags any more unless you specifically ask and even then they often forget to bag them when you pick it as an option It was easier when they did I could ask for all chilled and frozen to be in bags.

icedcoffees · 15/08/2021 10:37

No, I think it's fine. Not many people work Monday-Friday, 9 to 5 anymore.

Maybe they get it delivered on a Sunday before they go to work? Maybe it's the only slot they can get that fits around their night shifts? Or, maybe they want to spend all day in the pub and would like to make sure they have plenty of snacks at the ready when they get home Grin

I'm sure you make plenty of noise that winds them up too. That's life when you live surrounded by other people.

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:38

*separate bags

But I’m glad to have given you a laugh and been told I’m doing my life wrong. Ffs.

SamVimes6 · 15/08/2021 10:39

I do feel your pain @lieinsareunderated I have one neighbour who has her delivery every Saturday before 8am one who has an early Sunday morning delivery and a neighbour who loves to go out all day on his motorcycle so he sits outside reving his bike before setting off for the day at least one day every weekend.

I moan about them to my husband, but they are part of the neighbourhood, so my options are to put up with the noise or move to an isolated house.

essentialhealing · 15/08/2021 10:40

I got up at 6am so you can't complain

Apologies, my comment was not taking a disability into account.

I have bags waiting at the door, and empty the crates in the bags myself, then carry said bags in the kitchen, that's what I meant. Delivery guys are not in front of my house for more than 2 minutes .

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/08/2021 10:42

I've likely missed some batshitery on pages 2-4 of this thread but I can't get worked up about this. I only know when one of my neighbours has their online shop delivered because it's like clockwork, 7pm on a Fri, and usually I'm by the front window at that time cajoling DD to tidy.

Receiving an online delivery isn't that noisy, surely?

There may be some reasons why they need it at that time, but it may just be personal preference - like to cook for the week ahead on the Sunday, for example. Seems OK to me.

DGFB · 15/08/2021 10:42

We get ours at 7.30 on a Saturday? Is that rude? It just means we’re sorted before going to clubs and also we have fresh bread for breakfast. Surely people just get their shopping when they need to?!

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:44

I can’t lift the crates. I push them along the floor and empty them onto the floor in the kitchen. Push them back to the door.

I then sit on a chair and lift up the things that are for the wall cupboards to the table and then get on the floor for the chilled and frozen stuff and put it in the fridge and freezer. Anything cleaning also goes on the floor as the cleaning cupboard is below the sink.

Pre COVID the delivery guys set them in the kitchen for me - cupboard stuff on the table and frozen and fridge stuff on the floor.

It take me way longer than 3 minutes. Especially since if I’m doing a delivery it’s a big shop.

icecreamsea · 15/08/2021 10:45

OP, YANBU. I think they’re inconsiderate.

Peanutsandchilli · 15/08/2021 10:45

@Dishwashersaurous

OK I'm clearly in the minority as noises outside wouldn't wake me once I'm asleep, or my kids etc.

How does anyone sleep on houses near busy roads if they are woken by every motorbike etc.

I agree with you. It's after 7am, not 5am.

But then I've always been able to sleep through known noises and it wouldn't ever bother me.

Lightisnotwhite · 15/08/2021 10:45

I don’t think you can get early morning deliveries from a supermarket on Sunday. There’s strict rules about the hours people can work and things can be open ( in the uk).

Mantlemoose · 15/08/2021 10:46

Possibly in retaliation to you getting kids sorted and in car, opening and closing car doors/boots just about 30 minutes later?

Lumpwoody · 15/08/2021 10:46

And. Delivery slots are an hour long. I take a half hour lunch. How can I get a half hour delivery slot? It would need to come on the dot of one to give me time to get it away and have lunch.

lieinsareunderated · 15/08/2021 10:49

I know, from chatting to them and from seeing them around at various times, that they do not have the kind of WFH home job that require them to be "available" for 8-10hrs a day mon-sat. I didn't think that level of info was required before but the discussion seems to gave taken a turn in that direction so I thought I'd better clarify! In our area there are plenty of slots available, and the cost doesn't change that much.
It's most likely, as someone has said above, that their day starts really really due having a small child, so 7am isn't that early.
I know if I live near people I have to put up with noise. But quite frankly I find it pretty depressing that I'm going to be woken up by this every Sunday from now on (unless, fingers crossed, they change their routine).
Someone above has also suggested complaining to the supermarket (which no is not Tesco's, you little detectives Grin). They aren't doing anything wrong! They are just making the usual delivery level.
Right, where's the coffee...
