It's worrying that it isn't seen as such.

Personally I think I agree with what I saw posted elsewhere, that there need to be various categories that don't give the ego boost to murders that they probably want by being called terrorists.

Like "lone ideological gunman", or something like that.

And yes, taking misogyny seriously.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 13/08/2021 16:54

Murderers!* ffs beyond, wake up!

Wheretobuy · 13/08/2021 16:54

@ConstantlySeekingHappiness

The incel movement does indeed meet the definition of terrorism in law in the U.K.

However, it’s not actually treated as such by authorities because no one cares about women that much.

It’s as simple as that.

It’s not just women though, is it? You see many men challenging incels online. At least one man was a victim yesterday. It’s indiscriminate killing, if that is what it is. I am more worried about the fact that his semi automatic licence was awarded/not taken away because his mental health was picked up as an issue.

I was reading about the Plymouth shooter today and watched one of his videos. It's very clear from his video that he was suffering from mental health problems as there was evidence of depression which often manifests as anger issues. If he'd got the support he needed it could maybe have all been avoided and lives may have been saved. His mother was concerned enough to ask for help, it is very sad that she was ignored, both by the NHS & also be the Police. Very, very, sad, especially for those families who lost loved ones.

Blossomtoes · 13/08/2021 16:57

It’s not a terrorist ideology as it has no political aim. In fact it doesn’t appear to have any aim at all. It’s mindless violence for violence sake.

It’s not really an ego boost issue and one man is not a problem. Categorising is correct but unless we label it as terrorism, this will not get the same attention and tragedies will keep happening. He could still kill but not at this scale without his semi.
Chamonixshoopshoop · 13/08/2021 16:59

It is terrorism, they hate an entire persecuted people. I’m not sure labelling it as such would be helpful, but let’s call it what it is.

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/08/2021 17:00

I just don’t agree they have a terrorist ideology or that they’re even a “movement”. If they do, then where is this movement and what is this terrorist ideology?

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 13/08/2021 17:00

Have you not heard of the aim of incel's? The one woman assigned to every man thing?

Chamonixshoopshoop · 13/08/2021 17:01

But it does have an aim, to destroy women. To kill us, belittle us and to persecute us for not sleeping with them. It’s all our fault. How dare we withdraw sex from them, sex they’re entitled to.
I’d say it has clearer aims than some terrorist organisations (which sometimes, strategically can be all over the shop).

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/08/2021 17:01

Categorising is correct but unless we label it as terrorism, this will not get the same attention and tragedies will keep happening.

But wouldn’t it simultaneously minimise real terror threats by watering down the definition so we can add in mostly harmless weirdos?

ConstanceGracy · 13/08/2021 17:01

They need to be watched as they do indeed come under what would be classed as Terrorism. If you disagree then you clearly don’t know the definition of ‘Terrorist’.

daisycottage · 13/08/2021 17:02

The government aren't going to want to spend money on this by classifying it as a terrorist ideology/group. They're okay with this happening because they don't invest anything in even basic mental health provision. I suppose they get to save money twice then.

How is that different from the book Utopia? Or Brave New World? Just writing wishes doesn’t a movement make.
PlanDeRaccordement · 13/08/2021 17:03

@ConstanceGracy. I said they should be on a watch list, just that they’re not at the level to be considered a terrorist group as they are now.

They are in no way “mostly harmless weirdos” They are men that have an extreme hatred for women and the feminist movement! More research is needed by you and those who think like you tbh.

Doesn't it have to be a very attractive, 'sexy' woman though? A 'high value' woman in their eyes?
Panickingpavlova · 13/08/2021 17:07

Op I don't know what it is and when I Google it brings up this thread.

For those of us who don't know why don't you explain and give us links?

savagebaggagemaster · 13/08/2021 17:08

They also hate and target men who they deem to be attractive / 'sexually successful'
Misogyny should be treated in the same way as other forms of hate speech.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 13/08/2021 17:08

Plan, if you're comparing dystopian fiction with actual events and known aims of known murderers, I'm not sure we can have a valuable conversation.

FlyingRabbitsAtNoon · 13/08/2021 17:10

Yes. I was reading up about incels earlier and ended up on 4chan. Some of the things they come up with are truly disgusting and I’m surprised the views aren’t censored.

But on thing that comes through again and again is how they all deserve an 8/10 woman and anyone ‘on level’ isn’t good enough because women just aren’t worth as much as women.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 13/08/2021 17:10

Of course orchestra - one sexy porn star teenage woman, per fat hairy beer-bellied incel...

Mostly harmless weirdos? How many harmless weirdos does it take to make one killer? Sorry but I don’t want to find out. Considering this pandemic has exacerbated the mental heath crisis, I would quite like to be safe than sorry.
