minnie driver claiming she was ''sick of being super famous''

I saw this in a headline article today online. Eh when I think of ''super famous'' I think Brad Pitt, Jenifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, J-Lo... generally people the majority of people would be familiar with and recognise their face/be a household name.

AIBU to think this b list actress is or never was ''super famous''? I struggle to think of projects she was in and I wouldn't even recognise her if I saw her on the street or on a picture. I am 35 btw too incase any1 thinks I'm too young so remember the 90s well.

I think she is famous enough to refer to himself as famous, and I also agree with the PP who said if you weren't an adult in the 90s then you probably aren't actually old enough.

JaneJeffer · 13/08/2021 12:41

She was lovely on Who Do You Think You Are? and the only person I've seen who gave a little gift when she went to meet her long lost relatives.

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 13/08/2021 12:44

More recently she had a fab cameo in the Rose Matafeo comedy Starstruck (available on Iplayer). She played a deliciously condescending agent.
I hear Rose is doing a second series.
I really hope Driver will be in it.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/08/2021 12:45
@Balgoresboy when I think of scream I think of Courtney Cox and David Arquette.

For some reason Neve Campbell doesn't even register with me. Can't tell you why that is, maybe because I only ever saw the first one?

But as soon as I saw Minnie Driver, I knew who you were talking about and confident I could name a few films. I could even picture her, I had to google the other two actresses you named.
Neve Campbell is the lead in Scream. You may well personally remember Courtney Cox/David Arquette more, but that doesn’t reflect reality. Which is the point people are trying to make!

And OP, you’re just too young. I’m 2 years older than you and stuff that happened in the early 90s wasn’t really on my radar. But in 1995-2000ish, Minnie Driver was all over J17, Sugar, Cosmo, Elle etc.

DoreensEatingHerSoreen · 13/08/2021 12:50

I've only read the first 100 or so posts but does ANYONE mention that she plays La Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera film adaptation?

I am exactly the same age as you OP and was very aware of MD being a famous actress in the 90s.

BorderlineHappy · 13/08/2021 12:50

@Hannayeah it's definitely one of my favourites.I always watch it.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/08/2021 12:50

She was quite famous. Perhaps it depends on your taste in films, i've seen her in lots if things and I'm the same age as you. I think she is more famous in the US than here, as a singer as well as an actress.

Borntobedifferent · 13/08/2021 12:53

She is far more famous in America. She has had 2 shows on mainstream American TV in the last few years and the last one for a number of seasons

Auntienumber8 · 13/08/2021 13:02

Rampantivy what an amazing series Mr Wroed Virgins was, I always wonder why it’s never been on again, Kathy Buerke was also in it.

Minnie Driver was absolutely everywhere for a year or so and was indeed very famous.

powershowerforanhour · 13/08/2021 13:03

I'd have more of an issue with the "beef to the heels like a Mullingar heifer" description, which she clearly wasn't , but I suppose it was in the script.

uktrippin · 13/08/2021 13:05

Hilarious thread OP.

Minnie Driver was super famous you were just a little kid though so you missed it.

I had to google the two actors you mentioned tbh, Scream was big for you because at the time you were a teenager, the target market.

The first Scream actors that came to mind for me were Courtney Cox and Drew Barrymore. I couldn't place Neve Campbell.

Bawse

"I reckon the OP is Matt Damon"

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/08/2021 13:16

I really hope Minnie reads this thread.

If anyone knows her please send her the link. I'm aware there are some Terribly Well Connected MNrs. Maybe she's on here herself.

I hope so, it'll give her a right giggle, and a decent ego massage too. Who doesn't need both of those?

angieloumc · 13/08/2021 13:16

@ShitPoetryClub

Is she confusing herself with Minnie Mouse?
I just spat my tea out 😂😂

I’m pretty sure she’s really the OP and started this for fun.

Do you think she had any clue she has such staunch supporters? I’m in US and taking off work today to man this thread.

When you said Minnie driver, I thought you meant that the actress is now a mini cab driver after being 'super famous'. I didn't realise that her name was Minnie Driver Grin but yes, searching on Google, I do know of her.

Grin

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 13/08/2021 13:49

I've heard of Minnie Driver.

The one story like this which did make me laugh was the actress with the bit movie part who talked about it constantly for around two decades, along with a second party-piece all about her puking in Mick Hucknell's hair. Hucknell let it slide for years until he'd finally heard it once too often, at which point he publicly claimed it was complete bollocks!

I'd barely heard of her until that point but did find it quite funny. Poor old Mick ... Grin

HoikingUpMyBigGirlPantss · 13/08/2021 13:51

Who? Hmm

longwayoff · 13/08/2021 14:25

I'm sick of being super famous myself. I'm going to ask my agent to arrange as much publicity as possible, tv and print media, so that everyone knows how tiresome it is that everyone knows who I am and recognises me instantly. It's exhausting. When will it stopGrin

ChloeDecker · 13/08/2021 14:33

I'm a bit of a Cusack fan and had to search to find a copy to watch,

Not sure you can be a Cusack fan and not know or already have Grosse Pointe Blank to be fair…

Where does one “find a copy” these days? Is there some UK version of Blockbuster Video that’s still open?
