minnie driver claiming she was ''sick of being super famous''

I saw this in a headline article today online. Eh when I think of ''super famous'' I think Brad Pitt, Jenifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, J-Lo... generally people the majority of people would be familiar with and recognise their face/be a household name.

AIBU to think this b list actress is or never was ''super famous''? I struggle to think of projects she was in and I wouldn't even recognise her if I saw her on the street or on a picture. I am 35 btw too incase any1 thinks I'm too young so remember the 90s well.

You can find a copy to hire here, old school style: www.cinemaparadiso.co.uk/catalog-w/Search.aspx Or on ebay, I suppose.

MyOtherProfile · 13/08/2021 15:01

So what name do we reckon the op is posting under now?

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/08/2021 15:08

Bet there are a zillion orders of Grosse Point Blanc made tonight.

Haven't RTROTFT (read the rest of the fucking thread) from page 8 but Minnie got a few pennies from me as I've rewatched Gross Pointe Blank. So good.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/08/2021 15:19

Where does one “find a copy” these days? Is there some UK version of Blockbuster Video that’s still open

Well someone in our village has had a bookcase of DVDs to be given away attached to their front wall since the start of the first lockdown.

They didn't seem to have many takers even in the days when just about everyone was walking past daily because there was fuck all else to do. I might pop up later to see if I can procure a copy of GPB, if I find one, I'll post it to the OP Smile.

Hannayeah · 13/08/2021 15:53

Figured out where to find a copy: in a box in the guest room closet with the other 15 DVDs I own.

I recognise her name but wouldn't be able to pick her out in a line up!

Can’t wait to hear that you found one there. If not it just means they want to keep it instead.

This has been my favourite thread in ages!
Minnie Driver was sooooo famous in the 90s. I loved her and her look.
Maybe OP was busy with Tellytubbies and the Spice Girls?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/08/2021 17:56

Cex is a brilliant shop to find old random DVDs!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/08/2021 17:58

I really wanna watch GPB now! Haven't seen it since I was a teenager

ReeseWitherfork · 13/08/2021 18:17

This just popped up on my Instagram feed, ironically...

She was never super famous, but she was sadly controversial for a while because Matt Damon kindly dumped her on TV before telling her.

LimeRedBanana · 13/08/2021 18:53

The OP lost all credibility when she genuinely expected us to take her 12YO celeb-obsessed opinion seriously. Hilarious. Grin

DroopyClematis · 13/08/2021 20:14

@musicalfrog

Bit harsh!

She was half of a famous couple, was Oscar nominated and I remember the magazines going mad about her (mainly because she was English in Hollywood). I got a bit sick of hearing about her tbh.

I'm a few years older than you so perhaps my memory of that era is a little clearer 🤷🏻‍♀️

I suspect that this is why she is bleating. She was once famous.
Hannayeah · 13/08/2021 21:06

What did she say? No one has even said?

musicalfrog · 13/08/2021 22:30

@MolyHolyGuacamole

I originally scrolled past this because I thought said 'mini cab driver'

Says it all really

Anyone else enjoying this game of "spot the under-30yo"? Grin
lottiegarbanzo · 14/08/2021 10:05

MD really was super famous, in the superlative sense, for a while in the mid-90s. For about a year she was on every magazine cover. I didn't see any of her films at the time but was aware of some and certainly of her. (Couldn't believe her parents really called her that!)

She was a star in her own right, as a very successful actress, not for being someone's girlfriend.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 15/08/2021 00:15

I Give It A Year, which stars Minnie but also Raef Spall and the posh woman from bridesmaids, is now on Netflix. It's a very underrated and absolutely hysterical film, Olivia Coleman's scenes are especially brilliant. I implore you all to support Minnie & co and watch it immediately

Lovelybottom · 15/08/2021 00:18

She was huge for a while.

I will check it out!
CorianderBee · 15/08/2021 04:13

Sounds like that's HER quote. So she's called herself super famous, not the press.

EngelbertsRumpispink · 15/08/2021 06:34

Minnie Drver had become very well known for a time, and I was glad for her.
I liked her.

I don't know who Neve Campell or Mena Suvari are.
(I know who Mira Sorvino is, though. ha.)

Seems you just had other interests at the time that Minnie Driver was famous.

I will say, however that it is cringeworthy if she said, "super famous".
If those were her actual words, then she has just brought herself down a peg, in likeability.
