minnie driver claiming she was ''sick of being super famous''

I saw this in a headline article today online. Eh when I think of ''super famous'' I think Brad Pitt, Jenifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, J-Lo... generally people the majority of people would be familiar with and recognise their face/be a household name.

AIBU to think this b list actress is or never was ''super famous''? I struggle to think of projects she was in and I wouldn't even recognise her if I saw her on the street or on a picture. I am 35 btw too incase any1 thinks I'm too young so remember the 90s well.

Who?

sst1234 · 13/08/2021 00:07

Minnie who?

It’s like that time when Katherine Jenkins put out a statement refuting rumours that she was having an affair with David Beckham and everyone scratched their heads going ‘what rumours?’

Some b-z list celebrities have delusions of grandeur.

Neotraditional · 13/08/2021 00:08

I just remember her as the woman Matt Damon dumped on TV. She had no idea beforehand apparently.

She’s definitely not my idea of super famous, or even famous really. I couldn’t name anything she’s been in.

LoganRoy · 13/08/2021 00:08

I know (from reading an interview today) that she was in Good Will Hunting and went out with Matt Damon. So maybe she was, but only for a brief period?

Doyoumind · 13/08/2021 00:09

Didn't she do a sitcom in America and became more famous over there than here? I would still agree she wasn't in the super famous category though.

musicalfrog · 13/08/2021 00:09

Bit harsh!

She was half of a famous couple, was Oscar nominated and I remember the magazines going mad about her (mainly because she was English in Hollywood). I got a bit sick of hearing about her tbh.

I'm a few years older than you so perhaps my memory of that era is a little clearer 🤷🏻‍♀️

x2boys · 13/08/2021 00:09

Oh bless her 🤣
Didnt she have a thing With Tom cruise?

Balgoresboy · 13/08/2021 00:09

She probably is more c list actress. She was in Sleepers as a small support role but that's the only 1 I can think of and she dated Matt Damon.

I think she was very well known for a short period of time in the 90s, especially when she did Good Will Hunting, but I haven't heard anything of her for ages.

ShitPoetryClub · 13/08/2021 00:11

Is she confusing herself with Minnie Mouse?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/08/2021 00:11

Oh come on, she was pretty famous for a good while and she is entitled to feel the way she feels

Then again I don't subscribe to the belief that women should STFU and be grateful for their lot.

Wbeezer · 13/08/2021 00:12

She was quite a big thing for a short while, she seemed to pop up everywhere at one time, I'm older and was maybe more aware of her. Not Tom Cruise famous, but pretty famous for a young British Actress, its all relative.

Balgoresboy · 13/08/2021 00:13

But when I think of ''well known for a short time in the 90s'' I think Mena Suvari or Neve Campbell who were everywhere for a stint before vanishing, but not Minnie Driver.

Pucarbuile · 13/08/2021 00:13

Wow, seriously, all of you really don't know who Minnie Driver is? And in her own right, not as Matt Damon's partner?

LimeRedBanana · 13/08/2021 00:14

Well, she is pretty famous. A lot more famous than most people.

Is she A list category? No, but most people have at least heard of her. She doesn’t seem to have done anything in a while, though.

The only vehicle I can remember her being in is Good Will Hunting, but she is still a hell of a lot more famous than, for example, me. Grin

I suppose it’s one of those things where even though she may not be A list level, she probably does get recognised wherever she goes. Or would have done before she stopped making movies.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 13/08/2021 00:15

So what does she do now?

GNCQ · 13/08/2021 00:15

They’re exactly who I’d categorise her with.
Balgoresboy · 13/08/2021 00:17

''Then again I don't subscribe to the belief that women should STFU and be grateful for their lot.''

This has nothing to do with gender, please don't go there. I'd say the same if some b list 90s male actor who played support roles classed himself as ''super famous''.
Heck in fact I have, people were saying online Luke Perry was the next James Dean after he died and I argued that he was far from James Dean fame or reputation career wise.

I have no idea who either of those people are but I remember Minnie Driver

Agree. Those two come to mind for being super famous and also Jennifer Love Hewitt. But not Minnie Driver. Never seen in her anything. Don’t even remember the Matt Damon controversy.
LimeRedBanana · 13/08/2021 00:19

Well, she was known across the English speaking world (and no doubt further) as a Hollywood actress.

So I’d say that’s pretty famous - even if not actual A list.

prawntoastie · 13/08/2021 00:19

Usually low low level celebs who are scrapping a list do this
Never forget laytesha grave putting out a fake rumour she was drake’s girlfriend actually so funny

I know Minnie Driver, know neither of the ones you named

Goldeneye, I think she voiced Jane in the Tarzan movie and I am 99% sure it was her in Will and Grace, but I haven't seen that for years

MissTrip82 · 13/08/2021 00:19

I’d find her easier to recognise than Mena Suvari.

I didn’t think the litmus test of how famous someone has been is whether I recognise them though.

I certainly remember Minnie Driver being quite famous after Circle of Friends and then around Good Will Hunting.

I imagine she did have quite a negative experience of fame when her relationship ended. I don’t know what anyone gains from denying her experience.
