minnie driver claiming she was ''sick of being super famous''

I saw this in a headline article today online. Eh when I think of ''super famous'' I think Brad Pitt, Jenifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, J-Lo... generally people the majority of people would be familiar with and recognise their face/be a household name.

AIBU to think this b list actress is or never was ''super famous''? I struggle to think of projects she was in and I wouldn't even recognise her if I saw her on the street or on a picture. I am 35 btw too incase any1 thinks I'm too young so remember the 90s well.

Maybe this is exactly the shit Minnie Driver was sick off... having her life loudly over-analysed by a complete stranger. In doesn't really matter if more people have heard of Neve Campbell or Kate Winslet or Jennifer Lopez if the poor woman couldn't walk down the street or sit in a restaurant without being bothered by strangers.

I actually read this as "A mini driver is sick of being famous' -

I need a second cup of coffee is needed this morning ...

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

I’m older than you and am telling you, uncategorically, that she was super famous and in the news loads. No ifs, no buts

Yeah I'm 50and I agree

I'm early 30's ( younger than the OP) and I agree!!
mustlovegin · 13/08/2021 08:16

Andie MacDowell was very famous and stunning too

essentialhealing · 13/08/2021 08:16

I've only ever seen her in Good Will Hunting. I assume she did other work?

There's lots of actors that are "famous" but I struggle to think what they've been in like Christian Slater, Dan Akroyd, Rick Moranis. Only seen them once but household names somehow

ChloeDecker · 13/08/2021 08:16

Well, some good to come out of this thread is that hopefully, the OP will have the opportunity to watch Grosse Pointe Blank that they had never heard of before Grin

Battleofwhocouldcareless · 13/08/2021 08:17

Good Will Hunting is one of my favourite films and so she always seemed very famous to me. I liked her, and remember her being on the cover of lots of magazines at the time.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/08/2021 08:17

MD was super famous as far as I’m concerned too.

I guess debates about something this subjective are fun.

She had a small role in Starstruck this year too, and she stole the show IMO.

Exactly right! So many posters scrambling to post how un-famous MD is yet all seem to know exactly who she is.

Is it jealousy? It’s such a strange thing to get to catty about.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/08/2021 08:21

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

Oh come on, she was pretty famous for a good while and she is entitled to feel the way she feels

Then again I don't subscribe to the belief that women should STFU and be grateful for their lot.

She was famous! Maybe more do in America. I know her and I know no-one!

She is beautiful and sexy in a most unconventional way. Compare to the identikit lip filler, botox and extension lot of today and weep for the 90s. Would she be able to have her earlier career today? Not likely...

Dorisbonson · 13/08/2021 08:24

This thread is making me incredibly nostalgic for the 90s. I might have to watch some of these films this weekend.

Minnie Driver was very famous.

PattyPan · 13/08/2021 08:26

I’ve never heard of her and according to Wikipedia I’ve seen several things she’s been in but I don’t recognise her picture 🤷‍♀️

Tuscancat · 13/08/2021 08:29

She is very beautiful and very famous. We are still talking about more than 20 years after her Oscar nomination fgs.

Taoneusa · 13/08/2021 08:29

I don’t think she was “very famous”, but I might see it that way because I couldn’t stand her and avoided her like the plague.

RampantIvy · 13/08/2021 08:30

I agree @znaika

poullou · 13/08/2021 08:32

Well speak for yourself then, your experience of being 12 is not mine

Rather like Minnie's experience of fame is not the same as your perception of it.

You must be on a wind up OP. Nobody can care this much about something that doesn't affect them at all.

Ahhh - Christian Slater. I bloody loved him
sloutside · 13/08/2021 08:33

She was in Circle of Friends which came out of 1995 and there was loads of hype about the film at the time. Chris O'Donnell was the male lead and Saffron Burrows was in it.
They were all really famous off the back of that film for a while.

I have this with Kate Beckinsale. I can't tell you how often I've looked up an actress playing a particular part to find out it is Kate Beckinsale. Even now, I can't picture her face.

YABU for not knowing Dan Akroyd was in Ghostbusters Wink

Phyllis321 · 13/08/2021 08:37

Grosse Point Blank was excellent. She also voiced a main character in Princess Mononoke, widely regarded as one of the greatest animated films ever.
She was very famous for several years and I don’t blame her for hating it.

ReeseWitherfork · 13/08/2021 08:38

She also voiced Jane in Tarzan. Which blows OPs "never the lead in a hit movie" theory out the window.

TheKeatingFive · 13/08/2021 08:38

Well she was more famous than me, in fairness.

I only really remember her in Good Will Hunting. I loved that film. 😆

Notjustanymum · 13/08/2021 08:39

She has more than 40 film credits from the 1990’s until 2021, more than 30 TV credits and around 11 awards.
Maybe she’s one of those people that is in loads of things, but isn’t immediately recognisable (which might lead to people bothering her to find out, because they recognise her but can’t put a name to the face), and she doesn’t like being pestered all the time.
I suppose if that’s happening then she might feel more A-list because of the attention!
