He's always been a chubby misogynist with questionable.comments to make about his wife but now he has compared a woman's afro hair to the fur on an alpaca. Has the world gone completely bloody mad? How come he still has that job? And, no, the 'I have old fashioned northern Irish charm' act doesn't make up for it. I for one am certainly not feeling charmed! I have no idea how Ruth puts up with him tbh.

Urgh. When I saw this trending on twitter, I thought that he had insulted Zoe Williams the Guardian columnist, but then I realised who he had been talking to and that he been making a joke about the texture of afro hair, which I don't think anyone in the public eye can have failed to realise is rife and racist. And he did a "sorry if you were offended" non-apology, which just makes it worse.

PicsInRed · 12/08/2021 22:46

@QueenB5

If he said I had frizzy hair, what would that make him? A bit too honest for his own good but not racist. Instead tarring him with the ‘racist’ brush, perhaps educate him that his remarks are insensitive but without wanting him sacked for a flippant comment.

He can be a bit cheeky to Ruth but she keeps him in line, I’d rather watch them than everything being so PC in case anyone finds offence that the show becomes scripted and the funny live moments are a thing of the past due to someone being offended 🤷🏼‍♀️

What in the world
Unsure33 · 12/08/2021 22:48

And yet loads of people make on here many insulting comments about boris’s hair which probably is derived from his ethnic background , but that’s ok, fair game.

Doodlebug71 · 12/08/2021 22:49

@robbooftheford

This world is getting ridiculouser by the day. He said nothing wrong. BANTER
banter? Ridiculouser?

banter is banter [sexist, homophobic or other shit] until someone is arrested for their "banter" being offensive. or just criminal. Learn to tell the difference,

WTF is "ridiculouser"?

It would appear that you thinik that Jimmy Saville "did noting wrong... BANTER". Go on... defend your posiition..

Thewinterofdiscontent · 12/08/2021 22:49

So Lego hair is ok as a comment but alpaca hair isn’t?

There was more than one scene in The Devils Advocate where Charlize Theron used to have alpaca hair.
At least Alpacas are cute, better than Mortica Adams curtains.

Does anyone like him?

Me.Blush He is a total fucking dick sometimes though.

Comments about hair are one of the many micro-aggressions directed at black people and often focus around 'othering' because "oh wow, your hair is wild/extraordinary/funny, can I touch it?" Most people wouldn't approach a white person and make unsolicited comments about their hair alongside a request to touch it (or touching it without even making the request in the first place), would they? To then compare her hair to that of an animal was most definitely racist. I suggest you look up the history of hair in relation to black people and you'll soon see why his comments and actions were racist.

Yep. I had someone literally recently ask to touch my hair when I next wear it in an Afro.

I was in a supermarket and a random lady walked past my niece and touched her hair.

When will some white people understand this is NOT COOL?

Block people are not animals to be petted in a zoo. That's why it's racist because it implies we are there as some exhibition to be touched.

He is literally comparing her natural features to an animal. We know black people have centuries been compared to animals as a racial slur - so how anyone is stupid enough to not see how this is racist honestly needs educating big time.

MummyJ12 · 12/08/2021 22:51

It was a fuckwit thing to say 🙄

AdelindSchade · 12/08/2021 22:51

I told 13 yo dd about it in the car after I had seen it happen and she knew right away what was wrong with this without me having to explain. If children can understand then why can't a middle aged Irish mam?

ttcsucks · 12/08/2021 22:51

WTF is "ridiculouser"?

Exactly 🤣

MummyJ12 · 12/08/2021 22:52

Doesn’t necessarily mean he has to go but I’m thinking he’s an idiot right now!

Cheeseplantboots · 12/08/2021 22:53

@Cloverglens

Don't think this was meant to be deemed as racist
I don’t think he meant it like either. I cringed when I heard it and headed straight over to Twitter!
Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:54

Unsure33 Boris's hair needs brushing and cutting. No one compares Boris to a wild animal in a live interview but if they have it would still be a different issue. White privilege...

He and Langsford sold the reporting rights of their wedding to Hello.

He left his wife and three kids for Langsford.

They are both vile. But powerful... for now.
It won't last. They should both have been given the boots years ago. But when they shortly announce that they are 'moving on' they will retire minted and punching the air.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2021 22:55

They already do some weird ad for something to improve circulation in legs is it? They’re both in it.

And he does an equity release one.

WellTidy · 12/08/2021 22:55

@Chocolatier9 thanks - it is a shame that it wasn’t picked up on. Maybe it would be now? So many comments have (rightly), but a fuller picture is always best.

Do you really not think people can be funny without being misogynistic and racist?
Catlover77 · 12/08/2021 22:56
@catlover77 someone on the thread has already explained how it is racist to call somebody black uppity.
I usually quite like Eammon, but Shock at the hair comment, really no need.
They ‘already explained’ it, at the time I was asking the question. Do you really think I would ask the question if it had been answered?

I call people uppity, I am unaware of any racial connotations

Winter2020 · 12/08/2021 22:57

I was watching today and thought "oh god no" when Eammon made his comment. It was unacceptable/rude/awkward for everybody - and of course for the lady his comment was directed at. Yes he should be given a warning by his channel, he should apologise to the lady concerned (privately in my opinion) and apologise to his wife and his general apology to the public should be sincere but I don't agree we should be sacking people, or bullying people "cancelling people" for saying something stupid that they immediately regret.

ttcsucks · 12/08/2021 22:57

@Hugolugo

Exactly this. Boris purely has 'messy hair' that's it - he's not told he looks like an animal. Ever. In fact I don't think I've ever heard a white person compared to an animal.

Only black people seem to get these comparisons.

It's as if history lessons never existed for some people.

QueenB5 · 12/08/2021 23:00

The fact he is Northern Irish has been mentioned a few times. Is that offensive? I’m asking honestly as it seems certain things are racist and other things aren’t. Also for reference one of my daughters has long golden blonde hair that flows past her bottom, elderly people and more people who do not have her hair colour naturally in their cultures love to touch it. I just assumed it was because they found it unusual.

ttcsucks · 12/08/2021 23:04

@QueenB5

Calling someone northern Irish is fact, comparing someone to an alpaca is not a fact it's an offensive nasty thing to say - and racially insensitive.

How is referring to someone's nationality the same thing?

VladmirsPoutine · 12/08/2021 23:05

Eamon is a very good demonstration of apparent benign whiteness at work. Except it's not actually benign is it. It's harmful and abusive.

Dontwatchfootball · 12/08/2021 23:06

@Catlover77 - Uppity was commonly used in the southern US to describe people not being subservient enough to the white population. Usually followed by racist epithets. So now you cannot claim to be unaware of the racist connotations of this term.

PicsInRed · 12/08/2021 23:06

He left his wife and three kids for Langsford.

Of course he did. Of course.

Well, they sound lovely. What's going on with that show anyway? Bit of a low empathy zone isn't it, across the board?
