To think Eammon Holmes needs to go now

He's always been a chubby misogynist with questionable.comments to make about his wife but now he has compared a woman's afro hair to the fur on an alpaca. Has the world gone completely bloody mad? How come he still has that job? And, no, the 'I have old fashioned northern Irish charm' act doesn't make up for it. I for one am certainly not feeling charmed! I have no idea how Ruth puts up with him tbh.

Shame. A lot of ignorance on this thread not sure if it's deliberate or not. Either way....HE WAS AND HAS BEEN RACIALLY OFFENSIVE WHETHER YOU GET IT OR NOT!!

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:26

AlphabetStew there is the possibility that he is only in his job because the older cohort of viewers who watch TM like his accent and aren't listening to what he is actually saying.

Lotusmonster · 12/08/2021 22:28

An inane, bored and vacuous sounding comment that revealed an underlying racism. 😳

SaharaFlower · 12/08/2021 22:28

What is the offence? It is similar saying that someone has poodle ears when their hair is in two. A big ex of mine said that to me.

WellTidy · 12/08/2021 22:28

@Chocolatier9

It was also banter when he said Michelle Obama was ‘brave’ to wear a certain dress with ‘that arse’.

It was also banter when he said Meghan Markle was ‘uppity’

He’s just an old fashioned guy, bless his cotton socks. How can anyone keep up with what’s considered offensive these days?

Ho merry ho.

I can’t find anything online about this comment on Michelle Obama. Do you have a link for me to read more please?
ttcsucks · 12/08/2021 22:28

@AlphabetStew

I'm no longer surprised by the headline 'Eamonn Holmes has said something stupid again.' He's fairly consistent with ridiculous comments. I do find it very surprising that he holds his current position still. Most people would have been 'cancelled' after one of these types of comment. Yet Eamonn keeps banging them out on a semi regular basis.
It's because he's that racist and misogynistic he doesn't have any awareness of what's acceptable. It's ingrained in him and typical of his age group sadly.
SaharaFlower · 12/08/2021 22:29

@Anotherbrokenairer : Offence is subjective Confused

Chocolatier9 · 12/08/2021 22:30

Seriously though, I don’t think he should go. He’s rude and stupid and God, this sort of thing is tiresome, but I don’t think sacking people in these circumstances does anything good.

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:32

Ttcsucks he's the type of man/ from the generation that think its okay to pass comments on a female colleague's legs.

Twilight7777 · 12/08/2021 22:33

I like Ruth but Eammon is one of those men who constantly make their wives make apologies on his behalf because he (wrongly) thinks he’s done nothing wrong

readytosell · 12/08/2021 22:35

Don't really get the fuss to be honest. It was a bad joke, but not the worst I've heard.

Namechanger0800 · 12/08/2021 22:35

@PercyPigAndMe

Not aware of these comments or the context but just to add another view .. I met Eamonn some years ago at a specific award ceremony. And he was absolutely lovely. Genuinely interested in the people receiving the awards, wanting to know the ins and outs of it all and staying well over his allotted time as he wanted to talk to everyone. And nope, this wasn't something he was paid for and wasn't televised or anything

So I can only speak as I found him. And I found him genuinely nice.

I've also met EH when he came to my place of work and he was a rude arrogant arse who offended several people with his 'jokes'. And this was nearly 25 years ago

I don’t think someone who is rude, stupid and tiresome should be presenting a TV show TBH.
Chocolatier9 · 12/08/2021 22:37

No, sorry, I don’t have a link. I saw and heard it at the time - it was during the time the Obamas visited London and I was watching television - but the remark was made in passing - it didn’t cause a stink publicly (I suppose the world was less sensitive then} and I suppose as no one rushed to tweet about it, it didn’t happen, as far as the internet is concerned.

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:37

I think probably ruth and EH have stayed in their jobs because the public still seem to prefer them to the main anchors, holly and Phil. Which says a lot about holly and Phil and about ITV casting in general.

Dontwatchfootball · 12/08/2021 22:38

I cannot believe how many people are writing off his comment as banter. So depressing.

Getawaywithit · 12/08/2021 22:38

Chubby people not allowed on your telly then, OP?

By all means call him out on his racism, misogyny and general stupidity but you’re not covering yourself in glory if you’re making personal remarks which add nothing at all to your arguments.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2021 22:39

I have felt for years that This Morning needs a massive shake up or a new format entirely. It’s really tired now.

Clocktopus · 12/08/2021 22:40

This world is getting ridiculouser by the day. He said nothing wrong. BANTER

Comments about hair are one of the many micro-aggressions directed at black people and often focus around 'othering' because "oh wow, your hair is wild/extraordinary/funny, can I touch it?" Most people wouldn't approach a white person and make unsolicited comments about their hair alongside a request to touch it (or touching it without even making the request in the first place), would they? To then compare her hair to that of an animal was most definitely racist. I suggest you look up the history of hair in relation to black people and you'll soon see why his comments and actions were racist.

Shallwegoforawalk · 12/08/2021 22:40

@FatCatThinCat

He should have been sacked when he told a rape victim that he hoped she'd learnt her lesson and would get a taxi home in future. Horrible, horrible man.

Wait, what? He said what? Omg. Bastard. Absolute bastard. Off to google this.

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:41

Chocolatier9 there will be people on this thread that will think the Obama comment was just unfortunate as well, they just dont seem to get it. IT'S NOT OKAY TO MAKE THESE COMMENTS EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE A LILTING N IRISH ACCENT!

He’s a 🤬🤬🤬🤬
QueenB5 · 12/08/2021 22:43

If he said I had frizzy hair, what would that make him? A bit too honest for his own good but not racist. Instead tarring him with the ‘racist’ brush, perhaps educate him that his remarks are insensitive but without wanting him sacked for a flippant comment.

He can be a bit cheeky to Ruth but she keeps him in line, I’d rather watch them than everything being so PC in case anyone finds offence that the show becomes scripted and the funny live moments are a thing of the past due to someone being offended 🤷🏼‍♀️

AdelindSchade · 12/08/2021 22:43

I happened to be watching this today and I nearly fell off my chair I couldn't believe how awful it was. Good for that woman that she said 'never touch my hair' but for god's sake have a word with yourself Eamon Holmes

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:44

Getawaywithit EH needs to know how it feels for people to pass comment on how he looks that is why I wrote chubby. In our position, and if this was live tv, he would probably make comments about the northern Irish roots.
