He's always been a chubby misogynist with questionable.comments to make about his wife but now he has compared a woman's afro hair to the fur on an alpaca. Has the world gone completely bloody mad? How come he still has that job? And, no, the 'I have old fashioned northern Irish charm' act doesn't make up for it. I for one am certainly not feeling charmed! I have no idea how Ruth puts up with him tbh.

He is vile. Can’t stand him.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2021 21:44

@AnyFucker

R word ????
I believe he used the word 'retarded'.
Clocktopus · 12/08/2021 21:44

The very offensive r-word that isn't allowed to be posted on MN, rhymes with leotard.

scully29 · 12/08/2021 21:44

this kind of talk isnt ok. It wasnt ok in the past, Im amazed its still going on now.

PicsInRed · 12/08/2021 21:44

being humorous with my friend

It isn't "with" if the other person isn't in on the joke and having a good time, and it isn't humour if it's actually unwelcome bigotry.

Friend? How often has he had her over for lunch? Friend. Convenient friend. Hmm

Cloverglens · 12/08/2021 21:44

Don't think this was meant to be deemed as racist

AnyFucker · 12/08/2021 21:45

Ok, thanks. Wow.

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 21:46

Clovergens it was an offensive thing to say about afro hair. I thought it sounded very racist.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2021 21:51

Why the need to even comment on another presenter's hair?

Catlover77 · 12/08/2021 21:52

Don't think this was meant to be deemed as racist
I don’t, either
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 12/08/2021 21:55

@Cloverglens

Don't think this was meant to be deemed as racist
I'm not even sure what this is supposed to mean. It was racist, so....
Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 21:57

I would have been offended if someone had said something like that to me on live TV, especially if I hadn't been expecting it. Its these little 'bantery' comments which reflect in the mirror of a white patriarchal society. That's why they wind people up so much.

OP posts:
PercyPigAndMe · 12/08/2021 21:57

Not aware of these comments or the context but just to add another view .. I met Eamonn some years ago at a specific award ceremony. And he was absolutely lovely. Genuinely interested in the people receiving the awards, wanting to know the ins and outs of it all and staying well over his allotted time as he wanted to talk to everyone. And nope, this wasn't something he was paid for and wasn't televised or anything

So I can only speak as I found him. And I found him genuinely nice.

PicsInRed · 12/08/2021 21:59

People like to think they are good, and they know racism is deemed "bad", therefore the racist thing they actually said couldn't possibly be racist, as they're not racist, because they're a "good" guy.

That's the logic of the good bloke racist.

scully29 · 12/08/2021 22:00

He may seem lovely, he may not have meant it in a racist way, but WTAF. Where has he been that he thins thats ok?

Hugolugo · 12/08/2021 22:01

That's great percypigandme what a shame he has spoilt it with the rape victim comment and the Afro hair looks like an alpaca comment.

I like Ruth but oh god, I can't stand this man. He is a dolt who should have faded into oblivion years ago.

MeadowBrown · 12/08/2021 22:01

I quite like his curmudgeonly persona normally and really like Ruth (doubt she would marry someone horrible in rl) but this remark was totally inappropriate. I didn't see it but it must have been very embarrassing for the doctor in question. Who says something like that, ever?

Not to excuse it, but I thought his behaviour was really odd yesterday. I'd turned on to listen to the family of the highly educated 57 year old who had been opposed to vaccination (not because of any conspiracy theory but because he thought our immune systems could beat Covid naturally) but very sadly he succumbed to it. Can't remember what exactly but Ruth asked a very important and essential question and Eamonn spoke right across her just as the interviewee was about to answer. I thought it was really odd, as if he had had an absence or something or couldn't keep up with the line of questioning or just hadn't been paying attention.

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 12/08/2021 22:03

@FatCatThinCat

He should have been sacked when he told a rape victim that he hoped she'd learnt her lesson and would get a taxi home in future. Horrible, horrible man.

Oops hit post by mistake!

Wait! He what now?!!! Along with all the other instances he should definitely be fired!

ttcsucks · 12/08/2021 22:04

I've heard him say other things that were racist -referring to Meghan Markle as uppity being one of them.

He's a disgrace. White supremacist glossed over and disguised as a harmless Daytime tv presenter

ponyexpress22 · 12/08/2021 22:05

I couldn't be married to a racist like him.

Oh my god no! I did not know this, how could he keep his job!
robbooftheford · 12/08/2021 22:06
